My dad used to wear one of those hats in the 60's and 70's so this really reminds me of him. He was the first Reform rabbi in Cape Town, South Africa. Lovely voices. I really enjoyed listening to this.
This is only partially Secunda's composition. At "Ki heim chayeinu" (first time) it diverges from Secunda, but then comes back to it. If anyone wants to hear the Secunda version as he composed it, find the recording done by Richard Tucker.
What a honour to listen to this, it is such a shame this wonderful voice will one day break. We are privileged to be listening to probably the leading Chazan of our age.
What i really don't understand is how such a person can be considered such a chazan/cantor when he sings through a microphone on the high holidays, and he and they trample on all jewish laws. What's it worth? Its nothing jewish.
I can assure you that Cantor Schwartz is the real deal. He is a true Shaleach Zebor and his voice lends to my prayers as well as the prayers of others throughout the world. In my opinion the microphones and musical instruments only enhance the experience. I truly do not appreciate your comment and respectfully disagree with it.
Robert Bruckner I think, that violating the torah detracts from everything spiritual and good. And i am very big in music too (classical), and for me, music means connecting with g-d and all that is good.
Cantor Schwartz does not violate Torah. This is a conservative synagogue. I find it easier to connect with music. If I wanted an orthodox service I would go to Park East and hear Helfgot.
I agree. Every time I listen I am awed by the voices of both the cantor and bar mitzvah
young man.
Tears flow.

Your father married my mom and dad. They were from Upington
Your dad married my husband and I in 1981 a Green Point Reform Synagogue :-)

Robert Bruckner so you don't hold by keeping the torah and commandments?
Likeworld Likeworld I do not believe that musical instruments detract from a conservative service. This is not the venue to debate halacha.
