  • Early Spring is prime time to throw the big baits! As we begin the transition into the prespawn, a swimbait is a key player in every serious bass fisherman's arsenal. Whether you're trying to catch better quality fish or you're hunting for the biggest bass of your life, swimbaits need to be part of your plan. Come along as we take an in-depth look at swimbait fishing for Spring bass!
    "Swimbaits" is a giant category of lures and can be incredibly overwhelming. In order to simplify the conversation we've separated the baits into soft baits and hard baits. In the soft bait category we further divide the baits into Wedge-tail baits and boot-tail baits. For hard baits we separate them into multi-joint baits, open water glide baits, and cover glide baits. By doing this we can focus in on the handful of baits in each category that produce consistent results through the country.
    Below you'll find links to all the baits in today's video. We've also included a favorite color or two with each. Additionally, we included our favorite swimbait combo as well as some great budget options. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

      They make the highest quality instructional and knowledge sharing content period, the issue is that not every fisherman cares to get detailed with their tackle or wants to learn technique nuances.
      Googan has a million kids subscribed that mostly just want to see people yelling and drone footage, not learn the actions of 10 different swimbaits. It’s unfortunate but appealing to the lowest common denominator seems to be rewarded on most social platforms
      The best way to counteract this is for all of us that really do appreciate what TB does, is to recommend them to our friends, like/share the videos, and use their TW purchase links to make them their well earned $

    I just wanted to drop a thank you to you guys. Long time viewer. I watched this video as I do all your videos. Went out this morning and applied the information and went out of my comfort zone using a swimbait I haven’t used very much and stuck a decent fish. While I made changes due to conditions, I always have your information in the back of my mind, I kept thinking if it’s going to be one bite make it a swimbait bite. Thanks for dropping your knowledge.

Because of your awesome videos and knowledge, fishing is my passion! So thank you guys. I do have a question about the jackall gantarel rt spawn Gill. When is it best do you feel is best to fish it? Time of day? Weather conditions? When are the better chances for hookups? Morning, mid day, night?

    Great video! As other people say, it's a mistery to me that you don't have more than a million followers... I follow you from the very beginning (here from Portugal). I found your blog when searching for information about swimbaits and fishing for big bass and it always has been one of my favorite places for information and great videos!
    You should make more of these long videos about swimbait fishing! I'm just sad you rarely include a very important swimbait category (one of my favorites) which has many people using them a lot: wake baits! I guess you don't use them as much as these five categories you showed. I caught my PB Bass (northern strain) here in Portugal last year, a 6.23lb bass, using a glide bait: a Savage Gear Glide Swimmer 205 (8"). Two weeks later I caught my second largest bass ever, at 5.64lb, on a 6.75" wake bait (similar to an MS Slammer) made by me! Caught both bass from the bank, where I fish from, most of the time. I think you should talk about how good wake baits are for people fishing from the bank! I NEVER lost a wake bait, because they float, and the bill many of them have protect the trebles. They are great for low light conditions and for attracting fish from far away in the middle of the day. When fishing from the bank, in most lakes we will be fishing water less than 20ft deep (most of the time 10ft or less), so, even if we're fishing on top, the bait will pull fish from the bottom. Of course they do not always want to come from 15 or 20ft deep to the top, and that's when a glide or a soft swimbait will work much better, but wake baits are great baits for catching giant bass and a lot of them. I know a person in the northeast of USA who has had years with over 20 5lb+ northern strain bass in a year with at least 50% of those fish being caught on wake baits from the bank. I catch bass on wakebaits even in the middle of winter (climate where I live is maybe like Central California). I catch them year round. Hope you start including wake baits in these videos about swimbait types.
    Keep up the good work!

So, just a suggestion - if you're fishing these swimbaits in waters that you know have Pike or Muskie in them, be sure to use a good leader. They are very interested in many of these swimbaits Tim just mentioned! Just wanted to save you a little money.

    Congratulations on 400k guys! In case you guys ever doubt yourselves, this is one guy who has benefited from your videos over the years and you all along with a couple others have made me 10 times the angler I was 5 years ago. My knowledge has broadened tremendously along with my confidence. My tackle box has grown and I’ve thrown baits I never would have otherwise. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge. It has truly helped me more than I can tell you guys. Let’s hit 1 million this year on the tactical bassin channel!

    What is the issue with throwing straight braid with the S-Waver 168? Will it have a tendency to rip out of the fish’s mouth or bend out a hook? Why the mono leader?

    honestly, id like to see them talk about the baits they like that are not easy accessible. I know they have to plug tackle warehouse for sponsor stuff etc. But i think this list would change if they could list what baits they like that are more rare/custom. For example i think the savage baits are okay compared to other big softbaits out there. Cheers tho still a great video!

    I have noticed that you guys rarely show the use of basic spinnerbaits. And as a result, I have been trying lots of techniques I have never used before, which is definitely fun! But I also realized that I didn’t pick up a spinnerbait once last year. Isn’t springtime a good season for them? And what about other times?

    I wish everyone would call swim baits, swim baits and glide baits, glide baits. A 2.8 Kytec shouldn't be classified the same as a 200 S waiver.

    If I could sell garden worms for $700 apiece I’d be a billionaire.
    Worms world wide are a breathing a sigh of relief.
    Tackle is made to catch fishermen not fish.
    Years ago I saw a very funny cartoon, it showed a fisherman walking out of a Bait shop with two black eyes. The sign on the Bait shop advertised “SHINERS TWO FOR A DOLLAR”.

    I caught a 28 lb. sucker carp hybrid thing on a Hudd before. It was a grass carp but it had a down turned mouth like a sucker. And it sucked it up deep. Some homeless guy scooped it up with one of those nets with a 30 lb. scale built into it and it was maxed out. The guy reached his hand up in that big ol sucker mouth and pulled the Hudd out for me. I asked him if he used to deliver babies or something? It was disgusting!
    It had ping pong ball sized eyes looking at us. I thought it was gonna start talking and maybe grant us three wishes to let it go. After the guy let it go he offered to shake my hand. I said "elbow bump" right on! And thanked him. (True story)

    One reel people should really check out for big swimbaits, 7-10 in baits, is the Dawia Tatula 200. It's bigger than other manufacturers 200 size reels. The Tatula 200 is the size of most other brands 300's. Super deep and wide spool, holds around 180 yds of 16 so it'll hold around 150 of 20, 120 of 25, fluro. With braid it'll hold a ton. And it's only $170, not bad for an aluminum frame, handle, and side plate. No cheap graphite

    Can u make a video on the mag draft

  • @treighstone3997
    @treighstone3997 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey. I’m currently using a tfo mag heavy moderate action for my hard swimbaits. I plan on throwing stuff as small as a 168 S wave to as big as a 6in bull shad. (1-3oz range) As of now I’m using a 200 size super duty wide spool. Just wanted to know if buying a 300 size reel would be overkill for those baits.

    i have the Savage Gear 4D Trout. Honestly I have yet to figure out what the best way to rig it is! Hooks below? Hooks above? How do I get that line through? How do I tie to that hook? Does the lure stand up when its at the bottom like the Huddleston (ie do I fish it the same)? What precautions should I have to minimize the chances of loosing that lure to a snag? So I would dearly love to see a video from you explaining all these. I should also point out I am a shore fisherman. Are there techniques, times and places where you might recommend swimbaits from the shore?

  • @andrewvolcom11

    Tim your familiar with Lake Oroville. Would you even entertain the idea of throwing a huddleston of any kind (6inch,8in,68special) there knowing that spotted bass are over running that lake and the large mouth aren't very prominent there? If so what one if not what other option would you recommend throwing there

  • @19physaly
    @19physaly 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tim, any reason why you don’t/can’t use straight braid? I purchased a bunch of swim baits based on your Christmas buyers guide but haven’t been able to use them yet (from NY and it’s cold and snowing). I’ve only ever used braid on all my poles/lures.

  • @amals51

    Hey Tim, have you fished the Jackal Dowzswimmer? I think that’s how it’s spelled...? Not part of your line up but I think I did her Matt mention it in the past. What are your thoughts on that bait?

  • @tristonmorgan3259

    For the glide baits(or really any of the smaller baits), would it be possible to get away with a 7’0” medium heavy fast action rod? Or do I need a heavier fishing rod? Reel is also a 6:6:1.
