Thanks for the awesome video. After the wildfires in L. A. I decided to make two of these for my roof. I followed your instructions. The only mods I made was to paint them to match the color of my roof and I also cut some 1” pieces of 3/4” pipe then cut them in halves creating a half moon shape I inserted these between the 3/4” tees and the 1/2” pipe so that it would be a snugger fit. Thanks for the idea. 👍🏽
I made some similar to this 5+ yrs ago. I used brass pop up for heads. Mine are linked in a series so one hose feeds 3 sprinklers. So far they are holding up being up there for years. They are hooked up to sprinkler system I can control remotely from phone.
I like the idea but two suggestions: 1. use copper or metal instead of PVC. The wildfire will melt the PVC plus it doesn't hold up well from the sun's UV light. 2. use a stainless-steel garden hose instead of a regular one, again due the wildfire heat may damage it. Overall, I really like the idea and there's definitely a market for it in the US and Canada. Australia sells similar products for their bushfires but made out of metal.
Great video. Thanks for the tips. I will try making my own this weekend. If I want to have two on my roof is is better to connect them both to each other with a hose or another pvc pipe?
Can you explain how you attached it to the roof? I didn't really understand what you meant once you got up there. Especially to help it hold down against strong winds!
He's not actually attaching it to the roof. He is fixing the movable legs to conform to the shape of the roof ridge by "stuffing them with glue" which I'll guess he is filling the gap between the 3/4" tee and the 1/2" pipe with caulking. The weight in the legs needs to be heavy enough to withstand the winds. At 1:00 he says "fill them with sand or something to make them heavy".
People, you dont need a sprinklers on your roof if it is a non-combustible roof like asphalt singles. Its better to first remove any combustible vegetation from around your house. Start with everything that is within the first 0-5' then work your way out. Then put sprinklers around your house but on the ground. You want them to spray whatever vegetation is left and the sides of your house if they are wood. What causes houses to burn are vegetation, wood piles, and anything else that can burn that is too close to the house. FF for 40 years. I’d love to see how you put your system together!

Replacing a FLAMMABLE ROOF would make more sense. 🙄
Which one is more cost effective? This is just a back up security device for worse case scenario, how often do wildfiree like the one in LA happen?
Totally agree
