Willie, I really enjoy your videos. Easy to follow and understand. I have run DD-WRT for years, but recently set up an EdgeRouter 4 and this is a great resource to see what kind of cool things I can do with it. I work as a software developer and have a small home network, but don't have time to keep up with this stuff on my own. Keep up the good work!
I would like to make a suggestion. I really like your video's so keep up the good work. It will be a good idea for you to document your steps and post them so people can easily follow them as they watch the video and also have a reference as they attempt to do this on their own. Additionally, I think you should try and stick with one process; if you want to use the CLI then you should stick with that but if you're using the GUI then it would be good for the viewers to see how and where to do them. It gets a little confusing as you move forward with your videos when you're flipping back and forth. Again just a suggestion.
Looks like the DNS resolvers for the clients on the PIA interface is the built-in DNS cache on the Edgerouter itself, using the config you showed DNS queries will be leaked on the outside of the tunnel and not in the vtun. To protect against DNS leaking I would suggest giving out a resolver available down the tunnel and not the Edgerouter itself, then checking by sniffing the Edgerouter external interface that DNS lookups are not being leaked.
I would also recommend turning off auto-focus on your video camera. Almost your entire office is in focus anyway so unless you need to do an extreme closeup on something it's better to just set it and forget it. Besides if you want to do a closeup on something, just record it after the fact and edit it into the video. Much better quality that way.
Please, please make a video about fiber. I enjoy your videos, and I'm a little behind when it comes to non-copper. And what Unifi Controller version is that? It's so different on the homepage. Looks like the revamped iOS apps.
Great Video, I found your other video about multiple vlans.. :-o on ES and ER Yay! I would definitely like to see SFP from router to SFP on the switch.
Hi Willie, what is this Controller Software u use (Unifi SDN) is this not the normal Controller Software?? what is the different between Unifi Controller 5.8.28 and Unifi SDN?
Great content as always. I'd love to see a start-to-end config setup using Edgerouter with unifi switch and an AP. Leaning loads from your channel, I appreciate the time you take to walk us through these things.
Do you think you actually needed to do set-inform the third time? It sure seemed like the immediate switch to "provisioning" was causal, but maybe it was a coincidence due to varying update intervals with your L3 connection to the controller...? Regardless, thanks for the excellent video! I've really enjoyed watching your composure and fluidity improve over the last couple years--keep up the great work!
Hey Willie! Thank you very much for your informative video on the Edge Router 4. I just set mine up. Do you still need any testers? I have 200 Down 100 Up.
Thank you for a great video. I followed this tutorial and changed the VLAN settings for the ER-X (setup VLAN's on switch0 instead of eth2). I managed to get the VPN VLAN network to work well, but however I cannot get the local network to work at the same time. The local network will provision an IP via DHCP, I can still login to Edgerouter on the brower and ssh into the Edgerouter, but no internet traffic. Are there any other different configuration settings for the ER-X?
What is private internet access and why would one want to use it ? I have that switch & router. I just used the basic wizard to get going, but would like to know more & have a better network.
hey Willie, I have followed your previous video.... fab, great work, love it.... The only thing is I have only 1 IP address on my main LAN that I would like to be permanently connected via the new PIA interface, so instead of having all traffic go through the PIA, I would like my bittorrent server only to go through it. How would I achieve this. and as an added bonus I would also like to be able to turn on and off PIA for the whole LAN as required. So basically this is what I would like to configure. Perm connection from bittorrent server through PIA to the internet Ability to turn on and off the PIA interface for the rest of the LAN on an as needs basis Any ideas, suggestions or guidance on how I might be able to achieve this? Much appreciated..... love your videos BTW :)
Great Video! But I cannot figure out the last part. Is it possible for you to explain the last part of policy based routing in another short video? I tried my best to make it work but couldn't. Thanks!!
Hey wille, can you redo this test on version 2.0.9 hotfix 1? I would like to know what the openvpn speed is on the ER-4. I am thinking of getting one and to the same thing you have shown in the video. I am hoping it can go over 30 Mbps.
@@WillieHowe what do you call slow? what speeds are you getting? It there seems to be little to no information online regarding openvpn numbers on the ER4. I have an ERX and i am trying to figure out if it worth it to upgrade to the ER-4.
@@WillieHowe Thanks for the quick reply. by any chance have you ever tried doing and IPSEC tunnel to a vpn provider such as Nordvpn or PIA? if so do you have a config script? that seems to be my next options to get better speeds. 30mb should be enough to do a 4k stream from netflix other streaming services.
I followed you fine up to the point where you jumped into the cli then you lost me. Can you not do all this in the ER gui? For some reason I cannot get my head around what you were up to from that point. The cli Show Configuration may be clear as day to you, but I am still mystified!! I've tried to teach myself using EdgeRouters and Mikrotiks, but I just cannot seem to fix the logic into my otherwise decent skull! But thanks for the endless (normally!) excellent videos.
I agree, it's a lot harder to follow along when your jumping around in the cli, unless it's something that has to be done on the command line interface I think the videos are easier to follow when you do it through the GUI.

that would be awsome.

This is an awesome video. Answered all my questions that I was totally stuck on. Thank you so much for this video!
You can use UAP AC Lite also uses PoE 24v in. That's what I'm using. Lite also uses only 6.5watts max power consumption.
There's a little bit of distortion from time to time, but the sound quality is definitely better.
The sound is great. I would like to hear more about sfp and fiber setup
Audio 10/10
The configuration you did behind the camera is confusing me, please make a short video explaining what is the commands.
Audio is better.. Thanks for your videos.
Still no 1080p or 4k though :( Audio is clean AF! Nice volume level too.
Great Video, I found your other video about multiple vlans.. :-o on ES and ER Yay! I would definitely like to see SFP from router to SFP on the switch.
Thanks for the video! Would like to see a video on fiber and SFPs

2020!! Hello Willie. Question. Isn't that better to set your DNS forwarding to the WAN interface? Vs Sub interfaces?
Just what I was looking for, thanks
Thank you for a great video.

Hey Willie, In your inform syntax is the ip the one of the controller?
What's the advantage of having EdgeSwitch compared to other brands ?
What is private internet access and why would one want to use it ?
I have that switch & router. I just used the basic wizard to get going, but would like to know more & have a better network.
pls how can where can i locate jumbo frame in legacy interface . not the new ui but legacy mode .
is that a different theme for the controller? I like the interface better
Can you make a video about ftth catv tutorial. Thanks
if you are using a vlan do you have to use vlan on your managed switch or would an unmanaged switch work as well?
How are these routers for gaming? I lag all the time. Crazy packet loss

Please

Yes. I tried the exact configuration but no luck. Is there a way I can send you my config? I don't know what i am missing.
The configuration you did behind the camera is confusing me. I am sure if you look at my config, you will figure out the problem. Thank you!!
