Anything that’s remade or remastered you always have To prepared for changes. For better or worst depending on your view. Completely agree with your points.
Yeah. But still, remaster means to make something from the OG to the exact same but in WAY better quality, even as small as the megapixel should replicate the OG. Crash N. Sane Trilogy is a good example. They didn’t put a muzzle on anything and that’s why it was a success. Spyro reignited trilogy still will be a success and I’m still going to get it, but they should not have put a muzzle on the guns because it doesn’t feel like OG Spyro that dodged bullets.😂
While it's nice to have fan feedback, if they took every demand in the middle of their development, there's no doubt things would get messy. They're well-aware of what they have to do and how important it is to not screw it up. If they want to take some liberties, I see no reason why not.
I'd love to see Toys For Bob and BluePoint collaborate on a Jak and Daxter trilogy remake. TFB would do a great Jak and Daxter TPL remake, while BP would do a much better job handling the mature tone of 2 and 3 I think. If they did that, plus collaborate with the original writers and designers to fix any plot holes and fill in gaps in the lore (like Veger not having any setup and just suddenly appearing in 3, or actually incorporating Dark and Light Jak into the story better and giving us more of a reason to use those powers, as well as balancing the guns in 3 and having more consistency in difficulty between 2 and 3) would be the ultimate Jak remake dream team. Then perhaps there'd be enough of a modern audience to get a proper Jak 4, finally.

People don’t understand that you need to improvise (have creative liberty) to create HD version of something that had few polygons back then. There was simply not enough definition and you can’t just copy paste. It would look awful in my opinion.
Marko Jakšić agree, one of my problems was that I loved the aspect of many places back then but they were so empty that I couldn't enjoy them to their full potential. Now I am going to have those awesome places in a very good looking way (I'm not English)
Obviously that's a big issue, and the increase in polygons means some liberties will need to be taken. The key word being some. The liberties I have seen taken in some cases are beyond that. Where was the Dragon holding a paint pallet in the original? Where were the staffs, horns, etc.? They aren't taking liberties like you mentioned, they are outright adding things that weren't there. Adding things that were never there is a much more dangerous creative liberty than padding things out because you are working with more polygons.
Just look at the dragons, TFB went with creativity very high in their design and now so many fans love their new looks (incuding me). If dragons would stay as they were in the original game then I think they would look too generic. And the music, now it's toggable so everyone is happy :) I think the amount of creativity Toys For Bob puts into the remake is just fine.
People who are complaining about the length of the grass and minuscule things like that make me cringe. I think we are very lucky to have had toys for bob be so accommodating to all the things we’ve said, and taken onboard and criticisms or changes we suggested. People just blatantly shitting on the game is really kind of rude. We should ALL be grateful we are getting such a high quality translation of the Spyro series from PS1 to PS4 (or whatever system you’re playing on)
Personally I prefer what toys for bob is doing to vicarious visions work. I have my complaints, (which are useless) not all changes seem right, but I'm happy with almost everything shown and I think the three games are going to look impressive
I got one critism; don't add blonde pigtails on a brown short-haired down-to-earth kangaroo just because she's female. Give her a hat if you want, make her dainty-er, change her colour to rosy brown, make her resemble crocodile dundee, but don't change her character model and spirit because "she's a girl so we'll make her look like a 'real' girl, an obvious girl." Sheila will kick you off a cliff.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, toys for Bob should just continue their work as calm and patient as they have been ever since this was announced. Fans are going to get upset at some of the new stuff, but that’s to be expected. You can’t please them all (especially those that annoyingly nitpick the tiniest thing)
I agree with you. The core is the same, just updated the graphics and substituted a few things. Let's not forget the fact that they, and I think i said it before, and that you've also said it, they had almost NONE of the data from the original trilogy to work from and IMO, they have tried their best to remain faithful to the originals.
THANK YOU so much for saying this. I said it previously, but I feel there are too many people who don't understand that this isn't just an HD copy & paste of the originals. I'm ok with change, and not everyone is, but even with some changes here and there it's still Spyro.
Honest opinion: Definitely! So far, the game looks so much better than the originals I don't want the same game again A remaster should be the same game but more. And toys for bob have proved they are excellent at updating/improving the trilogy so if they ignore it, there would be so much wasted potential.
rockhardgamer 45 A remake shouldn't be the same but it also shouldn't be worse, and this is worse. The word generic perfectly describes the art style, lighting, character design and sound effects in this remake. But it's what I expected from one of Activisions soulless subsidiarys. This isn't Spyro.
Jason Gunn-Davis yes it is. The music is great and they even gave the choice to change back to the original. The levels are incredibly detailed and like said in this video, the levels would look empty without it. The dragons are being completely redesigned so now they look and fit their homeworlds instead of most of them looking exactly the same. The characters look so good they all fit the world's completely. Cutscenes remain in Spyro 2 and even they have been improved. I just don't get where people are coming from when they say this is not Spyro. We have been waiting many years for this moment and now people are pushing it away.
rockhardgamer 45 I didn't mention the music because you can toggle the original, but now you mention it, Copeland has runined his OST with characterless prodiction. You like the new art style, lighting, character design and sound effects? You clearly don't like Spyro.
Jason Gunn-Davis Actually spyro was my childhood. It is a very special part of my life. And as a true fan, they have done an incredible job. I think people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. This is Spyro. Something we can actually say after waiting many years. The complainers mostly have no arguments. This game looks better than the original already. Why would we want a copy pasted trilogy?
rockhardgamer 45 'I'm a true fan that thinks the art style, lighting, character design and sound effects should all be completely changed'. Sure, kiddo.
No matter what a remaster or a remake will NEVER be the sameas the first time done, time has changed over the years and games have changed as well. I agree with some where if they complain so much, play the one on the ps1, however, I think Toy's For Bob SHOULD add something new to the game. I love the idea you gave of Cynder and such, and maybe they should do that but just for DLC that way they can appease both parties, keep the game they way they were story line and such, but have DLC where they could add more.
I don't think that a remake like this would turn out great without any creative freedom. Where the hell should the passion come from, if they literally had to remake a game pixel for pixel without infusing their own personality? So, yes, I think that they should have some kind of creative freedom!
Pretty much. Especially the first game hasn't aged too well. It's still an enjoyable game in my opinion, but it feels lifeless compared to the other 2 games. And that's where I think the Remake can - and seems to - improve upon.
I just love how they have been doing so far, it's a great and respectful work and they even listen to the fanbase to take ino account as much fans as possible, and try to make a memorable game be memorable once again
Absolutely I’m sooo happy with how everything looks. I’m glad they’re spicing it up it gives me a sense of a new game along with so much nostalgia and surprise so I’m extremely happy :)
im LOVING everything theyve done so far. theyre filling in the gaps with beautiful decor, plant life, etc. im convinced anyone who complains about any of this have no art skills at all and dont at ALL understand how this shit works lmao im glad you broke it down for them. crash had tons of details compared to spyro, therefore remastering required less creativity. spyro is open and emptier, im GLAD theyre filling it all in with soo much.
Obviously they should have and they have it. They have total freedom to do what they want really. Also no clue where this Crash logic is coming from. Crash was changed to look better in the same exact way as Spyro now. If people are actually crying because we are getting good looking grass now then I dont want to live on this planet anymore. That is actually so dumb logic it hurts my brain. The problem comes only if they are changing the core game and gameplay. But by this far TFB has done everything close to perfection.
I think creative freedom is important. Something tells me that if 5th gen consoles had the same capability 8th gen consoles have, Insomniac would've designed the game to look very similar to what Toys For Bob are doing. I think that's something a lot of people forget. Insomniac designed a wonderful and beautiful trilogy but they faced a ton of limitations and in a way their own creative freedom was held back.
The fact that Toys for Bob took each dragon and made them each completely unique but still close enough to the originals that people can still identify or guess which dragon it could be?!?! Like what the heck?! They could just take the easy route and keep the dragons simple and exactly the same but they are putting sooooo much effort into this remaster and its paying off. People love the dragons (now that they know what Nestor actually looks like). This is not going to be a sinple Remaster. It's going to be a journey that we get to experience for the first time, again! All becuase of the creative changes and additions that Toys for Bob decided to make.
You made excellent points and really looked this question from a variety of angles! I was actually a little nervous when people thought it might be vicarious visions working on it. I really like them and they are an amazing company, but I was worried that a direct translation of the game , like crash, would not suit Spyro. I was excited at the prospect of Toys for Bob working in it, as you predicted in a video waaaay before it was even announced or hinted. The original three Skylanders games that I played had such charm and a great sense of humour. Whether people like to admit it or not, the charm and humour, and over-all good spirit of Skylanders really felt like a Spyro game to me. Even if it was completely different. There couldn't be a better big company to bring this trilogy to modern consoles and I feel completely secure in their creative choices. That they will still have the same essence of the original trilogy. The fact that they interact and listen to the community is just mind blowing to me and seriously makes me appreciate how serious they are taking this remaster.
I hate that it is too “sensitive”. They replaced gun bullets with paintballs. It’s stupid to change that because it changes what it was in the OG!!! That map was supposed to be a heavily armed weaponry military base for gnorcs! Not a paintball base theme! That’s stupid! I’m still getting it anyway but still if you’re going to REMASTER something as it should be, then it should be remastered almost to the EXACT same.
I understand the concern, but Toys For Bob are more or less trying to appeal to a much younger audience not just those nostalgic for the original. There is a whole new generation that get to experience Spyro for the first time. It's not about being sensitive they have to consider the impact it could have as modern media glorifies violence in a way that something like that could entice children. Children are stupid and impressionable and this is a very colourful game that would appeal to any child. Just my 2 cents, don't grill me for this. Personally I do agree with you, it would be cool if they stick to the original concept. But they have to adjust to modern times because everyone is hyper sensitive about everything. Sucks but thats the world we live in.
I think if they're gonna change it they should change it to lazer guns. I mean, Disney is for kids, and Disney owns Star Wars. Lazers. So I think Twilight Harbor would be okay to have lazer guns. Kinda like Agent 9 in Spyro 3
Gh0st yeah I’m not grilling you and I get that, but when the OG came out in 98 and 99, I was 2 or 3 years old when my dad and I played. Still the thing whole ‘no guns’ thing I don’t feel as strongly about it as you do.
BrushedTrout007 To be honest with you I don't care that much about PC culture, I would much rather they stuck to the original. Hell even Crash N'Sane Trilogy still had guns. Personally I don't think it matters that much, I'm just assuming that's what Toys For Bob considered during development but they seem very open to fan input so I think they're gonna change it back to the original. I ain't worried too much about it. I just want it in my hands already, all these vids and updates are making me overwhelmed with nostalgia.
I think they should stay as close to the original as possible but they can change up a little imo also am I the only one who sings along with your intro? xD
Sadly part of the fan base is nitpicking stupid minuscule things that don't make it differ from the original. I think throughout the game if parts of it feel too out dated they should take advantage of modern technology to make it better.
I feel like your channel is definitely the best when it comes to reignited content, purely based on how fairly you present it. I know myself that there are some changes I'm not a big fan of because they might not match the nostalgia factor of the original games, but all-in-all I know Toys for Bob are doing a great job. Keep up the great videos!
99% of the "complaints" I've seen have really just been asinine nitpicks (I'm guilty of having some myself, but they're certainly not the deal-breakers that the loudmouth whiners are making them out to be), and some of them have actually been dealt with in the meantime. TFB seem to have done an incredible job and I look forward to buying and enjoying this blast from the past on Day One.
They gave us the music back! I just don’t understand why people would want to complain at this point. Honestly, they should treat it like any other reboot and just ignore they don’t like it. The music was my saving grace. Would’ve bought this anyway… But still, I can’t complain after they gave us that
They should stick as close to the original as possible, which with everything they have shown us thus far, they are sticking to this promise...and then adding tidbits where they allow us to swap soundtracks from new to classic. Still mind blown over that. From here, I can see them going forward and creating Spyro 4 if they chose to.
I honestly don't mind it too much, like, the orange webs for Spyro's wings. Those weren't introduced until A Hero's Tail, if I remember correctly. (I might be wrong, that is just from memory) I think it's kind of cute though, and I personally think the orange looks just slightly better. Also, the crystal statues that the elders are trapped in (or turned into, I'm really bad at explaining), the way that they were designed looks like it could be a nod to The Legend series, which is pretty cool. I kind of wish it was more accurate to the original, but it's just no fun having an updated copy of the exact same thing. I hope there are more easter eggs that I missed, because I think they're fun to learn about.
I love what they're doing with the game. When I personally look at the Reignited, it doesn't click to me right away that it's the same old Spyro. However, the more I look at it, everything comes together and I get smacked in the face with nostalgia. I think they're changing it enough for it to be a "new" game, but they're keeping it similar enough to be classic Spyro. I think they're doing a perfect job with this, I haven't been more excited for a game in years.
All I want from Toys for Bob to do is keep the feel of Spyro intact I'm talking how you get to control Spyro, how you interact with the worlds and their inhabitants and if they can improve on some rough patches like the boxing minigame and the first person Agent 9 missions even better then they can have full creative freedom and bring in new life to the games and the characters an example of what I like is how they dealt with the dragons they now all have their own unique characteristics that may most likely make them more memorable than their old mostly palette swapped selves in the originals which makes me curious with how they will handle the baby dragons and with what we have seen so far I think they will do a good job with the baby dragons designs.
I really like watching your videos and hearing your insight, have you ever thought of making these topics more long form and put into a podcast instead? I think you and some guys in the community could really do well if you came together and had Long form discussions.
All and all I think Toys for Bob is doing a fantastic job on this! There are only a few small tweaks that I would like changed, but they are small and not important enough. I am going to fully enjoy seeing this game once it's released and I look forward to seeing all the things that they add and see what they missed. :p
I completely agree! If a change makes the game better then it'll be fine, as long as it keeps the essence of what makes that series great. I feel like Toys for Bob is really trying their best to make sure they understand the Spyro series and get it right, so I have faith in their game!
I had to explain to my older sister that she was watching the footage for the Reignited Trilogy, she thought that she was watching the footage of the PS1 originals So I think Toys for Bob is doing a FANTASTIC job with this remaster!!
There are some missing assets from spyro 3 that I hope they include. The cutscene for the 3rd boss leading to evening lake was on the original black box game but was left out on the green box and PSN version. Also the whirlwind on midnight mountain that leads to a platform with some jarred butterflies was missing because the guy that was supposed to put it in went on vacation before the game was released and forgot to put it in. I also hope they allow for the cheat codes that allow for big head or 2D flat spyro or color change
I agree with your points. However, I do think TFB made some really cool and some weird changes. For example, the small tiki guys in Idol Springs using the top of a barbecue grill as a shield. That’s a cool change but a weird change they did (which might be changed in the release) was replacing the chant the Colossus npcs did. It’s not a make or break change but I’m confused on why they would change it because it’s iconic to the level.
I've been loving the direction they're going with the Reignited Trilogy, personally. It really feels like how I invisioned the game as a kid, and I think we definitely could have seen something like this way back then if Insomniac had had the technology.
I like what they’re doing. It feels like a lived in world with the added touches. I love the brightness. I’m not saying the originals didn’t but, I’m just saying changes need to be made sometimes.
Another thing that could be a Improvement What it Elora The Faun Zoe The Fairy Bianca The Sorceress / Rabbit Became Play Able in Reignited Trilogy Since Coco is play able in N-Sane Trilogy and the ratings were N-Sanely High So it's possible Elora Zoe and Bianca became Play Able But maybe Toys For Bob's Developers should look up what kind Kick Ass and Magical Abilities Fauns Fairies and Rabbits have ?
I fully agree with everything you said. All video game companies should have the creative freedom to make the remade game look they way they want, as long as the developers stay true to the original as much as possible. So far, we've seen that with the N Sane Trilogy and Halo 1 and 2 by 343 Industries. I hope more developers of future game remakes will be as open to their communities as Toys for Bob is with theirs.
For me, if the core/essence is still there, I generally don't mind creative changes. As long as it doesn't take away from the main idea. (HOWEVER, I do think it still needs to be recognizable in some way. Or else it results in something that feels "out of touch", and would've worked better as something completely separate.)
I think TfB are doing a fantastic job so far with these remakes. All the new details they're adding in to these levels and worlds makes them feel so much more alive, and make them so much more beautiful, and I'm happy they're going this route instead of making it a 1/1 remake. The new dragon designs are great, too!
I'm glad you cover these topics the way you do. You give a good depth to the subject and I can't help but agree, Toys for Bob have done a fantastic job so far on the Reignited trilogy and I've liked the choices they've made to this classic series. Granted yes, not all changes are good and won't be accepted well in some parts of the community but Toys of Bob have kept an open mind on the feedback from such an engaging fan base. Problem is, they aren't going to be able to address ALL the complaints (most complaints seem too small to be bothered with) and everyone needs to accept that. The Reignited trilogy isn't a direct copy of the original trilogy, they have to take some creative freedoms in order to make this game work, which in my opinion they've done well so far.
The only think I'm a little unsure about is the change from the wicker baskets to small vases and the overall size of them but it's not that big of a change and I'm willing to accept it ^_^
Hey CGE. I have a question for ya. In the case of idle Springs and fractured Hills, do you think that they both should remain with the same song, or should fractured Hills have its own music? I ask this because in the original, when I noticed that both had the same theme, I was confused if this was intentional or they reused idol springs’s song for Fractured Hills due to time constraints
The only thing I currently don't like is the HUD/ pause menu. Everything else looks great but the HUD the font and the pause menu clashes so hard to me.
As long as the levels maintain the original atmosphere/vibe I personally am totally fine with it. If they did what the Halo remasters did, and let you swap between old/new graphics, that'd be the only true compromise for everyone.
It honestly doesn't matter to me as long as it has the feel of the older games. I love the graphics and the level design and the gameplay seems smoother. I would love to see what else they could do. I'll be honest that the game already is sending me through a nostalgia trip and I can't wait to play it.
So far they’ve done a great job at keeping things the same and also tweaking some things how they like. I’m happy with everything I’ve seen from the game so far, so I’d say they’re keeping the creative liberty in a good place
So far what I've seen it looks perfect, but still u have to be cautious with toys for bob. Creative freedom could wander off into a whole other idea, away from spyros style.
There's just more to add in the Spyro world than Crash. From what I've seen, Toys for Bob has done a phenomenal job of blending the gameplay of the original trilogy with the more stylized versions of Hero's Tail.
The only problem I would of had is if they cut corners. I haven’t had a problem with anything they’ve done so far. They are doing the work. They get input.
I just wish they did what vicarious Visions did. I was disappointed that say here that vicarious Visions wasn't going to work on the Spyro reignited trilogy and I was even more disappointed to hear that Toys for Bob we're going to make it. If vicarious visions warts and make it they wouldn't have this creative Liberty for the first dragons have a dashiki which he never did in the original and make most of the Overworld look like it was a Skylanders game
My only problems is with the 3rd game on the xbox 1, the pool you fight bludo the rinoc is a too small making it super difficult to fight him in (thats a personal opinion) and the real problem I have is twitchy control in the third game most obvious in the swimming elements. Sandy shore was one of my favorites as a kid but trying to play it a few days ago was extremely difficult with bludo, the super speed tunnel and swimming. And that was only in the 3rd game so I think its just a bug that needs a small patch is all.
Great video. I'm also very pleased with what TFB has been doing, even if their changes aren't always what I had in mind. For example, I thought the giant dogs in Dark Passage could've been a bit scarier, 'cause I saw this one fan drawing of them that looked TERRIFYING, but I do like the idea of them looking like they have furnaces for mouths. I of course want them to get the look and the feel right, but I'm also interested to see how another team of developers would interpret it. That's all I want, and if I have that, I'm satisfied!
I feel like the story and levels and characters and stuff should remain intact. With that said, should Toys for Bob want to add to the game to make it in any way richer or add content that wasn't in any of the original games, then by all means I'm all for that. I went and 100% completed all 3 original Spyro games twice so I'm looking forward to this for sure.
I would love to see new stuff in the games, an expansion of the Dragon Realms etc lore, a deeper knowledge of the world(s) in which Spyro lives, I'd just love it so much. =3 😁 *miws*
I guess Crash is different because they had the original meshes and things like that. So for spyro they had to start from scratch. I really dont like some of the scenery changes but I guess it's to be expected.
My ONLY complaint is some of the censoring. I absolutely think they should have creative liberty. But some of the stuff they censor such as, twilight harbor etc, (just to name one thing) not a fan. Other than that, 👌👌👌👌👌😎👍
What else was censored? The Twilight harbor example is the only thing I can think of. If you're thinking of Colossus, the dialogue text always said, "torch" in the original even though the voice clip said, "kill."
Yes they should have creative liberty and honestly after enter the dragonfly and skylanders we can be happy that we're getting a good spyro game again :D
Yes I think they should have creative liberties or creative freedom,, whichever you want to call it. Also it seems some of their inspiration came from A Hero's Tail. I wonder if they'll possibly bring back the ledge grab ability that was introduced post Enter The Dragonfly. Although it would make it easier to traverse the environments. But I think some fans wouldn't like that for some reason. Now I understand they didn't bring it back for Crash and I'm not expecting them to with Spyro. I just think it will be a nice addition. Also I think the How To Train Your Dragon movie trilogy or the Jurassic Park/World Trilogies would've been a better examples than the examples you used. Mostly How To Train Your Dragon because they follow a lot more different narrative than the books. However they said the books and the 3rd Movie (releases in March 2019) will have very similar endings. Anyways Great video as usual Canadian Guy Eh and look forward to your next video. Also what do you think about the Sly Cooper TV series?
I wouldnt be mad if they added new worlds and stuff too.. I would love to have it feel like a new game to an extent. Like reexperiencing the game for the first time
I think Toys For Bob is doing a great job with the remaster. I think the main nit-picks that I and others are having is some of the sounds. The egg thief's voice, Sparx's butterfly crunch, etc. Things like that can be easily changed, but are not game breaking for me.
I think the complaint was directed more at the look of the NPC models of the game. It just felt weird, like new characters in place of the original ones. And they weren't doing that much of a good job in the dragons department. *_But._* That was Spyro 1. And now that I'm seeing Spyro 2, it feels so much better. Now, I think the original Spyro 1 just had too bland characters, with lots of space for lots of creativity for a remake, and the original Spyro 2 was already in depth with the characters. Like, Spyro 2 remake has slightly different looking characters, but they're still great. I guess, for me and some others who were complaining about the appearances of the remade characters, we just thought of their original blandness as iconic.
Honestly they've shown themselves to be transparent, they've been very faithful and they also have endorsement from insomniac so it seems fine to me tbh
1. Not that transparent since they are playing with words to not freak out the fans. Insisting the game is a remaster rather than a remake when it is not. 2. It's been 20 years, and not even a handful of the people who worked on Spyro are still working there at Insomniac.
I have faith that there was a way to give the originals the HD remaster they deserved just like Crash, without taking too many creative liberties. Maybe Vicarious Visions should've handled this instead of TfB.
Toys for Bob are doing their dang best and I trust that they they will do a really good job but they are doing awesome work on a childhood game of mine and gave it more life then it had before so thank you Toys for bob for bringing Spyro back in the spotlight
I feel like, from everything we've seen, these remakes are almost certain to end up being the definitive version of the Spyro trilogy. Oh sure, with every new bit of footage they reveal I tend to notice one or two little things I don't like, but... that's one or two things I don't like VS *literally everything else in the video that looks incredible.* Pretty much all the problems I've had have been very minor, and the biggest one, namely that I was underwhelmed by the remastered music, has been completely solved in a way that should make *everyone* happy. You like the new music? Go ahead, play with it. You'd rather have the Stewart Copeland original tracks? Well it's a simple option in the sound menu to revert back to those. And anything aside from that? Minor stuff like "I liked this character's voice better in the originals" or "I think the lighting is too contrast-heavy". And I feel like the fact that I'm even noticing minor stuff like that only speaks to how spot-on pretty much everything else is. Looking at the Hurricos footage they've released, I'm getting that *exact* same feeling you described with the Crash remakes; This really looks just like what I was seeing when I played the PS1 games as a kid. In fact watching this very video I was just suddenly struck by this thought that "It's almost bizarre just how *right* this feels."
As long as they keep the Gem chime sound effect the same as the original games, I will be happy Overall I am very happy with what I have seen so far. I am too young to have played the original games so I am excited to play this Remasters
I totally agree with all that you said dude, change can be great for games like this as long as they don’t change the spirit or essence for it, and maybe they’re will be better things added to the game, creative library is great for toys for bob or anybody really, and I just can’t wait to see the actual game and more news that you may have later, you rock!😄😄😊😊😊😊❤️❤️💕
What do you think about adding bonus levels at the end as reward for 100% game. I know there already are some "bonus levels" in both 3 chapters, what I mean is something we ve never seen before completely created by TFB
If TFB didn't change anything, it would be a missed opportunity. Spyro was iconic, and was a world wholly on its own. But at the time it was made, the world could only be so 'magical' or 'enchanting'. Adding to this world is a no-brainer. My one and only concern with the remaster is the 'silly' factor. The originals were a little silly, leaning more toward 'sassy' or 'adolescent', but the remaster looks more 'silly'. Meaning the target audience is getting younger, not older, which could alienate those of us that played the originals as kids and want to see something revamped for the modern age. Maybe if TFB or Playstation included the ability to play the originals easily (not on emulators, old consoles, and on the new network), it would help bridge the gap between the two. The limited access to the originals due to their age might be whats making so many purists angry, meaning the only easy way to play Spyro would be the Reignited Trilogy. Just a few thoughts, great video!
The most iconic thing about spyro is the cartoony aspect and art style. I do enjoy the environment and the graphical update... however making the characters more realistic just feels weird to me
I’m with ya man I completely agree that was the one problem in my opinion with the original Spyro games. I loved the original Spyro games but yes to much open space was a problem and should have been filled in. So this reignited trilogy really solves that. I love the way the original Spyro games look now, this is going to be such an awesome game 😃👍🏻!! #SpyroForever
Thing is, it's a reMASTER, not a reMAKE. If it only updates to better graphics, then it will only be a reMAKE. The point of remasters is to take the old, and make it BETTER. Should they have creative liberties? ABSOLUTELY! As long as they keep the core of the game, they can do whatever they want. Some of the iconic stuff in the game are only iconic because of the time. It's like if you were to bring something back like "rad" from the 80's, you need to modernize it, or make it timeless. If you keep it the same, you are only gunna get the people who used it before. Any new people wouldn't understand why it's good. Nostalgia is powerful, but nostalgia kills. Let them do their thing. We may like it, we may not. Open your mind, or be forever cancer to the things you like.
It’s the other way around. Remasters update the graphics and nothing else, while remakes are built from the ground up and add new elements to the game.
I don't agree. Remaster means mastering it again. While that can also means just making better models and high res textures, it generally means enhancing. Besides, even if you were right, that would classify this game as a remake, as they didn't take the original files and made them better. It's done from the ground up. So no mater what it's called, doesn't change what I said.
No, remake is literally in the name. You are REMAKING something, as in retelling the story in a different way. REMASTERING, enhances and update the graphics of a prior work for better clarity. Music remasters are the same in that they strive for better clarity than the original.
They're making everything from scratch So yeah, it's a REMAKE not a REMASTER! Shadow of the Colossus PS2 - Original Shadow of the Colossus PS3 - Remaster Shadow of the Colossus PS4 - Remake
Honestly, that just proves people don't know what 'remaster' actually means. Re-mastering means in the essence of the word, to master again. Making something look better is just giving it a new coat of paint, but not improving it. You are right, that IS the definition of remaster. But when you break down the word, you find that it means something else. To truly remaster something, you need to improve on the design and/or execution. The Crash N Sane trilogy is a true remaster. Improving on the old games, not just giving them a new coat of paint.
The only complaints I have are minor such as spyros charge as I think his head should go a bit lower and the vases in Spyro 2,3 need more define blue swirl
Perhaps this is a narrow minded view, but I believe when a studio is remaking a game they are first and foremost obligated to accurately recreate the aesthetic of a game both visually and in terms of game play. For the most part I think Toys for Bob has done a good job but there are a few things that have rubbed me the wrong way almost badly enough to want to pass the remake up in favor of digital copies of the originals. Things such as the way Zoe looks and the Ripto's Rage HUD and text boxes. Or the really short cutscene events, like rescuing the hula girl and the yeti getting crushed. There are other things that bothered me, but I classify those as a "just gotta get over it" thing, like how the more realistic lighting changes spyro's colors in dusk levels and the changed monk chant. I am really glad that the original tracks will be an option in reignited trilogy, that single thing did a lot to restore my excitement about the game.
They should definitely take creative liberties. If they did a 1:1 remake it would be extremely barren by modern gaming standards, I'm happy they've given things like dragons and worlds the creative touches they have done. While I do say certain things should be kept the same I'm fully aware that with a reamke things will be different as well, that's fine by me. I have faith that tfb have done and will continue to deliver with this remake
Toys For Bob did added the original Spyro music for Spyro Reignited Trilogy just because they listen to the Spyro community. So I'm pretty sure Toys For Bob will keep Spyro Reignited Trilogy be like the original Spyro games but better like Crash Banicoot insane Trilogy. Plus Toys For Bob being more creative isn't bad in my opinion, just means a new potential for new Spyro games.
Anything that’s remade or remastered you always have To prepared for changes. For better or worst depending on your view. Completely agree with your points.
MrGamer SEE!? THIS GUY GETS IT!
agree on that. changes are necessary
BrushedTrout007 Paint ball guns could be a good compromise for the gun issue.
You get the pin!
What some people want:
It was made of 3 polygons before, it should be made of 3 polygons today
Then they can play the original trilogy and stop complain about the new HD graphic.
Nani VT they'd rather complain
I'm ready to see some gameplay from year of the dragon
@Anthony Bennett Same. It's my favorite of the trilogy and the first game I ever played.
Honest opinion:
Definitely! So far, the game looks so much better than the originals
I don't want the same game again
A remaster should be the same game but more. And toys for bob have proved they are excellent at updating/improving the trilogy so if they ignore it, there would be so much wasted potential.
rockhardgamer 45
A remake shouldn't be the same but it also shouldn't be worse, and this is worse.
We have been waiting many years for this moment and now people are pushing it away.
rockhardgamer 45
I didn't mention the music because you can toggle the original, but now you mention it, Copeland has runined his OST with characterless prodiction.
You like the new art style, lighting, character design and sound effects?
You clearly don't like Spyro.
Jason Gunn-Davis
Actually spyro was my childhood. It is a very special part of my life.
And as a true fan, they have done an incredible job.
I think people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. This is Spyro. Something we can actually say after waiting many years.
The complainers mostly have no arguments. This game looks better than the original already. Why would we want a copy pasted trilogy?
rockhardgamer 45
'I'm a true fan that thinks the art style, lighting, character design and sound effects should all be completely changed'.
Also, it would be kinda boring. Yes, an HD Spyro is a cool thought, but why not adressing the issues, if your update the game?
Is Spyro getting a remaster?
Mekanizer8 The hell do u think? Uneducated boi!
Mekanizer8 lol ya.. where you been the last 4 months???
A remaster? Nope.
A remake? Yes.
No, of course not. Don't be silly!
No sadly
im LOVING everything theyve done so far. theyre filling in the gaps with beautiful decor, plant life, etc.
im convinced anyone who complains about any of this have no art skills at all and dont at ALL understand how this shit works lmao im glad you broke it down for them. crash had tons of details compared to spyro, therefore remastering required less creativity. spyro is open and emptier, im GLAD theyre filling it all in with soo much.
So far, I don't think I've had any complaints about Reignited.
Charlene Alyssa Ingram Do you mean Compliments or Complaints?
Starbrand Fan Oops! My bad. Typo. 🤗
I have one, to have an option to disable the subtitle boxes.
Also, in an interview the head of Insomniac said, toys for bob is doing an absolut fantastic job. Soooo.......
This is not going to be a sinple
Remaster.
I’m still getting it anyway but still if you’re going to REMASTER something as it should be, then it should be remastered almost to the EXACT same.
it looks like they completely removed the attitude of the original game
I think they should stay as close to the original as possible but they can change up a little imo
also am I the only one who sings along with your intro? xD
Goldstar no you're not
Sadly part of the fan base is nitpicking stupid minuscule things that don't make it differ from the original. I think throughout the game if parts of it feel too out dated they should take advantage of modern technology to make it better.
Goldstar Nope. I actually sing to it too. 🙌
the chant is meh at best, i cant sing along with it now!
WHYIYIYIYUM! WHYAIAIAIYUM!
red5robb1, I agree now they just say "waaaa" with a weird auto-tune sounding effect
Would’ve bought this anyway… But still, I can’t complain after they gave us that
eKinston Walker As long as the Ripto fight doesn't have that godawful singing in the background I'll be happy.
Typhoon Lex pretty sure it will if colossus had its chanting with the music if not the monks.
eKinston Walker Yeah but I own the European version of RR (GTG) so I'm hoping they take the same liberties with the remake for their European audience
Typhoon Lex the European version of yesr of the dragon may have left out the evening lake theme so hope u get that this time around
eKinston Walker And the sorceress battle theme. We got a repeat of spike's :(
They should stick as close to the original as possible, which with everything they have shown us thus far, they are sticking to this promise...and then adding tidbits where they allow us to swap soundtracks from new to classic. Still mind blown over that. From here, I can see them going forward and creating Spyro 4 if they chose to.
I agree with you. Also - congrats on the 10k subscribers! I just noticed that.
@6:18 couldn't find a black label ripto's rage?
Maybe just a little if Cynder gets in the game from it
I completely agree! If a change makes the game better then it'll be fine, as long as it keeps the essence of what makes that series great. I feel like Toys for Bob is really trying their best to make sure they understand the Spyro series and get it right, so I have faith in their game!
I had to explain to my older sister that she was watching the footage for the Reignited Trilogy, she thought that she was watching the footage of the PS1 originals
So I think Toys for Bob is doing a FANTASTIC job with this remaster!!
Another thing that could be a Improvement
What it
Elora The Faun
Zoe The Fairy
Bianca The Sorceress / Rabbit
Became Play Able in Reignited Trilogy
Since Coco is play able in N-Sane Trilogy and the ratings were N-Sanely High
So it's possible Elora Zoe and Bianca became Play Able
But maybe Toys For Bob's Developers should look up what kind Kick Ass and Magical Abilities Fauns Fairies and Rabbits have ?
NO, last time that happened............
............BUT, BUT, BUT, BUT, this ferret would love to see a morbidly obese Cynder
I think TfB are doing a fantastic job so far with these remakes. All the new details they're adding in to these levels and worlds makes them feel so much more alive, and make them so much more beautiful, and I'm happy they're going this route instead of making it a 1/1 remake. The new dragon designs are great, too!
When are you going to stream again?
tonight at 7pm EST!
Canadian Guy Eh ok awesome!
I couldn't agree more.
Good video. The comparison with N. Sane Trilogy was spot on!
I'm really happy they didn't show any levels of the second homeworld of spyro 2 that way I have a pattern to work with :)
@Elder Sage of the Sothothery yeah I guess modding is going to have to do it
My only problems is with the 3rd game on the xbox 1, the pool you fight bludo the rinoc is a too small making it super difficult to fight him in (thats a personal opinion) and the real problem I have is twitchy control in the third game most obvious in the swimming elements. Sandy shore was one of my favorites as a kid but trying to play it a few days ago was extremely difficult with bludo, the super speed tunnel and swimming. And that was only in the 3rd game so I think its just a bug that needs a small patch is all.
It would be neat if they included a port for the OG games so you can see the changes
My only gripe is the orbs dont bounce to you, other than that no complaints. It looks amazing!
=3 😁 *miws*
Awesome anaylsis as always!! Keep it up dude!
Other than that, 👌👌👌👌👌😎👍
Corey Mckee I agree. I hate how games, especially remastered games are being censored or altered because people get butthurt by everything these days
What else was censored? The Twilight harbor example is the only thing I can think of.
If you're thinking of Colossus, the dialogue text always said, "torch" in the original even though the voice clip said, "kill."
Blue Sparx and they got rid of guns and replaced them with paintball guns
I'm aware of that, 991yugioh. That's the example I said I know about.
991yugioh thats what the Twilight Harbor controversy is. Blue Sparx is looking for other examples of censorship
Like reexperiencing the game for the first time
Answer: Absolutely!
I was literally thinking about this exact argument today :P
I have faith that there was a way to give the originals the HD remaster they deserved just like Crash, without taking too many creative liberties. Maybe Vicarious Visions should've handled this instead of TfB.
I just want TfB to finally give us ‘trouble with the trolley, eh?’
As long as they keep the Gem chime sound effect the same as the original games, I will be happy
Overall I am very happy with what I have seen so far.
I love what they have done. If they don’t have a little freedom they could get complaints about being too safe
I know they are adding new levels, homeworlds, missions, hidden areas, orbs, eggs, dragons, enemies and new characters.
They're making everything from scratch
So yeah, it's a REMAKE not a REMASTER!
Shadow of the Colossus PS2 - Original
Shadow of the Colossus PS3 - Remaster
Shadow of the Colossus PS4 - Remake
I just want to see remastered Farley the Wolf in Enchanted Towers (Spyro 3)
I would love to see them create a true sequel to Spyro 3. Borrow elements, concepts and music from Spyro 4 but do it properly.
Some people hate change I Guess
