I have probably watched this over 500 times no exaggeration because I'm a semi driver and I listen to a lot of music and this is certainly one of them
The best part of this entire performance is the infectious joy he radiates. Not only is it beautiful to listen to but so much fun to watch. Bravo, my friend.
Except that Africa is not supposed to be played as a joyous piece and it contradicts the deeper essence of the original song. The original is not a happy joyous song it's a song about deep devotion and a willingness to sacrifice all for someone or an idea.

As a pianist myself, I can say that is one of the most incredible performances I have ever seen/heard in my life. Hands down. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

@@jakes3799 Agree 'as a pianist myself' I can see that notes and sounds are faded and brought back without his feet touching the device. A shame, because clearly without doing that it would still be a masterpiece, but yes, a little pre-recording and after-editing (sadly). Still great though!

It's a loop cover (I know it's late awnser, I just found this masterpiece). It was not pre recorded but if U take a look there's like a box next to the piano. And that's the loop machine.
From the very first seconds of the video, I see a guy playing drums on a Bosendorfer, I say immediately to myself : "You just don't let someone hitting your Bossendorfer unless you have real blind faith in him. This guy must be really talented." The rest of the video proved my first impression. Well done, sir !

I played piano before when I was 2 and I knew happy birthday until 6 years old because I gave up then now almost 2 years since I started piano and I know over 50 songs and I'm 12 years old

I professionally build pianos in every form factor and this guy plays this instrument how it is supposed to be - and it took only 200 years to realise that this is the right way.

I was just thinking the same thing. Mozart etc. were good, but in this age we literally mastered on piano.
He's not the only one that does this stuff..percussion on and with many surfaces, bowing strings, looping, harmonic stopping, hand muting, etc (this and others of his vids), don't think he was even the first to do any of it, not sure, but he does do it REALLY well, and this an Pirates are two favorites of mine from him. If you haven't seen that one take a look. And if you want to see a well played odyssey from pirates called Pirates Forever, check out Jerrod Radnich's version...it is nuts, and quite beautiful at times!
I'm scared to break strings and the mechanism inside pianos are nuts ! It's so fucking mechanical, all those little levers, arms, and rockers. I have a 90s kawaii upright with weird creaking on several keys just above middle C and I believe it's some of those mechanisms beginning to wear. You guys think a tuner will look at this stuff for me ?

Sure the piano is expensive, but it's expensive so that it can be played this way. (Well it's expensive becuase it's an Imperial BUT, not just that). A good piano is desgined to take abuse and keep giving and giving and giving and people don't seem to understand that.

@@suhaasvemuri7980 The problem is presentation. It's not so hard to make the music Peter Bence is making if you have all the time in the world and access to a half decent recording studio. His "party trick" is the use of a looping station and using it live, where he very clearly didn't in this video.
Imagine being famous for being "that guy that hits his piano for performance" while it's all fake. It's kinda sad, isn't it?
Don't know why but a minute in when he stands, hand plucks the string and sits back down it brings tears to my eyes. Music= turning sound into emotion.

As a member of the World Wide Organization for the Protection & Prevention of all Pianos from being used far beyond its limits of existence, I'd like to inform you that your piano is just at the edge of a huge cliff and it is just about jumping at the next extreme chords you eventually play on "him"! Amazing how it didn't self desctruct after being played like this! Congrats on your extraordinary playing tech! Keep musicin'...

I play the piano (badly) with my hands. If I am feeling adventurous I might get my forearms involved. I love the way you play it with your entire body, the way you whip yourself forward to emphasise notes is just joyful! Really brightened my day!

A few years back, my friends were excited that Weezer did a cover of "Africa", in which I was not amused since it's just another popular band bringing back a great song. But this rendition of the song is simply phenomenal! It certainly defines why piano is a percussion instrument!

As a child until I was 13 or so, I was a very accomplished chorister and occasionally sang solo in large diocesan Cathedrals. Whilst I struggled with massive anxiety when in that situation due to being Autistic, nonetheless I managed. Once my voice broke, I stopped singing and was traumatised by the change in my voice and that I could no longer produce that beautiful sound, I vowed never to sing again. In my 50's, (60's now!) I decided that I'd been stupid to not sing for so long as I think I need to sing to be mentally well but unfortunately, I just can't let my guard down enough to even make a decent note and wondered why I was cripplingly anxious when I tried to. You've made me realise that the cassock, surplus and ruff etc, (chorister's robes/uniform) and the 'ban' on being animated whilst singing, I can't let my guard down enough to perform at all. They provided me with a 'mask', and as we all know, Autists need 'mask' to be able to function. Now I can work on that and maybe find another 'mask'.

I was being serious, videos like this take a ton of work of figuring out how to mic each part of the piano optimally and how to mix all the different tracks together in a way that sounds good and isn't cluttered. His playing is obviously amazing so I thought I would leave a comment on something that isn't mentioned as much.
