    We will panelize a small simple breakout board manually in KiCad using the tabs and mouse bites method. An open-source panelization footprint will be used to add the mouse bites, and then we will append the board to create an array of PCBs that can fit within the manufactured board.

    Just a few days ago I did discover KiKit - github.com/yaqwsx/KiKit - apart from other things it can panelize your board with one call to the CLI. It may be a little bit difficult to setup (you need KiCad with Python3) but after that it is really easy to use. It even can rename nets/components so you do not get the rat nest chaos....

    Thanks, It really helped me with manufacturing a breakout board for a uC, because the chosen footprint was not available

    Very helpful video, thank you! I noticed you didn't add rails or fiducials. I assume adding those things isn't necessary unless you want to use a pick and place machine or do some other automation. Is that correct? Thanks again for sharing!

    • @sayanee
      @sayanee  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct. I made the breakout boards for hand soldering only.
      Good point on the rails and fiducials!

    Thank you! I'd like to have a 10x10 mm board, which is too small for my PCB house to handle. Panelizing to the rescue :)

    Nice video Sayanee! Did JLCPCB allow you to use the $2 for 5 PCBs offer for this or did you have to go with a more expensive option because it is panelized?

    • @sayanee
      @sayanee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's right I used the usual $2 JLCPCB for 5 PCBs plus the cost of shipping of course. I didn't have any other expenses because it was panelized.

      @@sayanee that's awesome. I read that they didn't like that but I guess they don't look too closely

    • @mattermfg
      @mattermfg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sayanee ahh it's just if you have multiple designs that they don't want you to have mouse bites.

    • @sayanee
      @sayanee  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattermfg Interesting... well I didn't try with multiple designs, so I don't know.

      About a month ago I panelized about 5 different designs in one 10*10[cm] PCB and they charged me for 22 USD =(

    does the factory charge you same money as a 10x10 board?

    • @sayanee
      @sayanee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried that! I always check with the PCB manufacturer on the pricing as it might vary with season and manufacturer.

    Is this method suitable for the smt instalation option in jlcpcb?

    • @sayanee
      @sayanee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I did not try this method, so I wouldn't know. Hopefully, someone else who has tried it can guide you. Or maybe you can contact JLCPCB directly to ask them.

      @skyguardian18 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sayanee thank you for your answer! I've asked them directly and they said yes it should be compatible!

      @@skyguardian18 Yeah it's always better to ask the manufacturer directly with regards to their latest pricing and manufacturing capabilities. Glad it worked out for you!
