I hope Dan can get the chance of giving Megaman 11 a chance someday.

Right after he finishes the Mighty No. 9 review.

The most frustrating part of this video was watching them pass up every single tombstone and then wonder about what the souls were.

Also walking several times past the save pond without realizing it

Not your guys' fault there aren't tutorials for enemy weaknesses and strategies but the combat would've felt better if you experimented more with different attacks and using your shield. It's gonna sound like a weird comparison but it's like enemies in Doom Eternal. You could also save in the hub at any time

For those curious, here is the design document for Maximo 3, which was in development by Capcom Studio 8 (the developers of the second game, Army of Zin).
    www.unseen64.net/2009/05/03/maximo-3-ps2-cancelled/
It has some really cool ideas for mechanics, expanding upon the fusion of Maximo and Grim, and the ability to shift between their different playstyles during combat. You can still catch footage of an early demo build on TH-cam.
I think it's a real shame this game never made it through development, it could've been a fantastic late-gen action-adventure title to further beef up Capcom's library at the time.
Due to the poor sales of Army of Zin, the follow-up was canned and Studio 8 was instead put to work on Final Fight Streetwise, before shutting down in 2006.
I often revisit this article and lament what could've been. Hopefully someday Maximo gets another shot, I feel like one more game would've cemented this series as something special.

This sounds like the worst of the edgiest of the 2000s. Tribal tattoos and dark berserker forms like the werehog and dark prince. Sucks we never got a follow up though Maximo 2 rules.

I legit want a Remaster or Remake of this and Army of Zin.
    Maximo could use another chance.

Man I could tell this was inspired by Ghosts and Goblins by that music sting where it's just G&G

51:20 Dimps handled SF4 and SF5. Eighting handled MVC3 and TVC. MVCI was Capcom internally.

Ya the game doesn't tell you much like the older games but ya you can save once you get to level 2 at that pond you didn't know what is was for

I rented this from Blockbuster and made it like 5 minutes into the first level, probably because I couldn't figure out the checkpoints. I played more of Superman 64 when I rented it.

This game has Medevil energy to it but a little bit better and not euro jank.

I remember buying this game back in the day for ps2 and thinking it was neat, but being incredibly confused when I picked it up after leaving in the middle of the first few levels when I had to start all over. I immediately stopped playing and never got past the first boss. The platforming also fucked me up bad and killed me more than the enemies ever did. I really wonder if the sequel is any better.

  • @Rostichenburg

I really like this game but not really for the gameplay. I managed to finish it with the true end so there must be some other way to save. I remember the agony of the ice levels later on.
As for Maximo 2 from memory it’s a much better game in every way, it’s kind of a shame the story will never be truly resolved and they’ll just keep remaking Ghosts ‘N Goblins.

1:02:37 “This I had boss design” no you can hit him multiple times you were just playing badly, don’t blame the game for your incompetence! You’re so quick to blame the game rather than your own shortcomings, it’s be pretty fair so far.

I remember buying this game used from GS back in the day and I put it down forever when I realized the game didn't save my progress after I got a game over. Apparently it scored pretty well back when it was released, which is surprising considering how obtuse the game design was even for the time.

Back when games didn’t baby you or hold your hand, and you had to figure stuff out on your own. Very in line with the other Ghosts ‘N Goblins games. Nothing was handed to you everything was earned, you either got good or you couldn’t progress!

I was a big fan of Super Ghouls N' Ghosts on the SNES and skipped Maximo for whatever reason. Seems like neat art direction and animation without much interesting gameplay to back it up.
Looking forward to that eventual Prince of Persia trilogy stream you mentioned a while back.

This game looks pretty good. I always passed it up as a teenager due to the cartoony art style.

Maximo feels like its development was handled by two different entities - one who has a good sense of game feel, the other a fucking madman who thinks locking a save behind the first boss/6 levels is a brilliant idea. If this game's save feature and health pickups were sane, I feel like it would go up a few points for me, as well as fixing the camera and platform jank.

Maximo's "SOPHIIIIIYAAAA!!!" cry is arguably my second favorite "BAD" voiceline from Capcom, Number 1 obviously being Zero's Iris speech.

2002, would 'Right analog stick for camera' be standard by that point or nah? I mean it wasn't until Armored Core 3? Silent line? Until they started doing the right analog stick to aim which always makes going back to the early ones rough.

So you'll never beat this game to see it, but when you rescue the sorceresses they give you the choice for a kiss, if you want to see the true ending you need to get all 4 kisses, which means you need to beat the entire game without saving or getting a game over to see the true ending.
