  • Info on replacing plugs and alternator. I bought car for $500. Needed an alternator. Replaced alternator and started. Ran rough. Replaced plugs and more car runs like a dream.
    Warning: the back three plugs are difficult to replace but not impossible. You don’t have to remove the manifold.

    Bout to do this job today. Glad to see you can do the plugs without taking the intake manifold off.. thanks for the video man. 👍

      It's a little tricky but totally doable. Watch your hands though, it makes a mess of them.

      @@kensteckelberg7013 for the alternator did you have to take a motor mount off and jack the motor up a little bit to take it out? if not, were you able to remove it from the top or the bottom?

      @@Eyeballpapercutt Sorry, just seeing this. But if anyone else comes across this. I just pulled it out the top. You have to kind of work it with some turns and a little patience. But it comes out without moving anything other than the stuff mentioned in the vid.

    I replaced 5 out out of the 6 plugs. But the back rightmost one looks impossible to do without removing the manifold. Were you able to get that one out and with what tools?

      @@TheArcV I used about a 5” or 6” extension. Just needs to be long enough to come out of the coil hole so you can get a 3/8” drive on it. Then loosen it, take the drive off and turn it out with your hand. It beats your hands up a little. You just need to make sure you push all the wiring loom back there out of the way, as I pointed out in the video. It looks hard but it’s not too bad. Good luck! 👍

      @@kensteckelberg7013 Thanks Ken. I did as much for the other back two -- which were bad enough -- but the intake nearly covers the back rightmost coil #5 cyl. I'll try it again soon... and if I can't do it I'll have to take off the intake manifold.

    Trying to figure out a problem with my dad's and his engine looks completely different. What in the world? Lol. What does "VVT" mean?

    • @kensteckelberg7013
      @kensteckelberg7013  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a couple different engine types that were offered in the Saturn Aura. VVT means Variable Valve Timing. It’s a special cam that adjust on the fly via tuning that makes the car run more efficiently than a non VVT cam. But your car may have the 4 cylinder EcoTec motor and not the 3.6L VVT. These are also found in the Chevy Malibu. But if yours isn’t the 3.6. This video probably won’t help you.

    Once the belt's off, are there any other good tricks for pulling the alternator?

    • @kensteckelberg7013
      @kensteckelberg7013  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just make sure you remove the pulley on the side of the alternator as it’s also a mounting bolt. So there are 3 bolts holding it on. Belts off, just make sure you have any hoses moved out of the way and it should come right out the top. Make sure the ground wire and electrical connection on the alternator are disconnected. That’s about it.

      The engine cover is just attached with rubber grommets on metal posts. It just pops off. No screws or anything that I'm aware of.

      @@kensteckelberg7013 never mind, figured it out. on the 4 cylinder version its different, the intake is under it and has to be unscrewed to remove the engine cover

    I have a question for my Saturn Aura 09 the traction control light came on and the check engine light as well once both lights come on the car doesn’t move past 20mph. What could be the issue? If I turn the car off for about an hour both lights turn off but once I drive it again out of nowhere they both come on and it’s scary! Also it says engine power reduced.

    • @kensteckelberg7013

      That’s what we call “limp mode”. Your sensors are receiving a failure that could be catastrophic to the motor, thereby reducing power so you don’t do permanent damage. You need to get it into a shop ASAP.

      It’s called the “in my way part”. Ha. Sorry. In all seriousness I’m not sure what that is. I can try and look it up and get back to you.
