    I had a mag-fired, kickstart-only Sporty of pretty much the same vintage ... but I'm cured. The kicker will "let go" and drop ya on the ground, stiff-legged and full force; you'll learn new heights of pain.

    I have a 65 bored .090" and she kicks by the second one. And DON'T leave the enrichener out after she fires. Use the throttle lock or hold it for a minute, you're just going to foul shit all up doing that. Those and chokes are only intended to get it help in firing not to keep it running. You will invoke more maintenance much sooner by doing that.

    I spent my whole summer restoring a 1982 Suzuki GS300L D model and when i see videos with bikes that look that cool, I begin to believe I'm wasting my time with that bike. I still gotta do a compression test on the thing and if the PSI doesn't go way up after i dump alittle oil in the spark plug holes, then I'll keep at it because the ring aren't bad. NICE HARLEY THOUGH!!!

    Now that's a fine motorcycle I don't know what you're trying to say. Real friends don't ride off unless they're dicks. Owning one of these machines isn't for the weak close minded such as yourself, we're a devoted breed who love the mechanical beauty of these machines... You wouldn't understand until you own one, I didn't, I blew up my motor and am rebuilding it because it's just that fun, powerband on these things like a 2 stroke.

    I think its because you timing (ignition) is backed up too much... it fires to early and the piston goes back down before the crank reaches TDC and it turns the cranck backward, hence the kick back . happened to me on my XS.. thought I broke my ankle!

  • @carolinatimemachine6338
    @carolinatimemachine6338 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Its not idling too low. That's actually pretty fast for an iron head. Most guys get them to idle like a John Deere. You're thinking of the modern bikes that have to idle faster to run the oil pump

    • @electromatt
      @electromatt 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dickie Holland I always thought the older guys who run their old motors are ruining them when idling low. What's different about the old motors that they can idle lower and still get the oil up there?

    • @carolinatimemachine6338
      @carolinatimemachine6338 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oil pumps. The newer engine requirements need a faster idle so it doesn't overheat and seize

    serious question for GonzaDeath. Do you run a battery? I didn't see one, but you may have hidden it well, or I'm just blind. If you're not running a battery, how do you have your headlights run?

    DARRYL44441 It means that I will NEVER have to put oil seals in it.It means that I will never have to change a starter.It means that I will never have to do an engine rebuild.It means I can run that bike till I'm 1000 years old and it will STILL START and RUN and give me nearly 52 miles per gallon at 60 miles per hour.

    I've been trying to figure my way through the engine types. Now the Flathead, Knuckle, Pan and Shovel I get, even the Block, (Evo) but apologies in advance if i'm missing something obvious, the Ironhead here looks to me like a Shovel? Are they the same engine type but with Iron heads instead of Alu? Or is this another entirely seperate engine type not typically credited in list of design changes?
    The knucklead motors are a thing of beauty incidentally, I would like one.

    • @torrycole6477
      @torrycole6477 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sportsters the trans and the engine are one piece.
      Sportsters came before the shovel head which are trans and the engine are separate.
      Both good engines but have their quirks.
      Sportsters have a higher compression ratio when they came out of the factory.
      Own both and a newer chief
