I did notice that your passenger side cam gear is backwards I almost did the same thing. Your video helped me catch it. . I feel bad pointing it out but figured you would want to know. It may or may not walk IDK. Thanks again for your help.
the tensioner isn't trash because you dropped it and the pin fell out! just re-compress the shaft and put the pin back in to install, and finally pull the pin when it is all aligned and good to go. The tensioner has a strong spring inside that allows for movement as the parts wear.

I have a feeling that’s going to be the case for me on the Shelby 😅…nothing quite like the slightly nervous feeling of turning the key on something you’ve rebuilt hoping it starts up! 😂
I owned a 95 2wd 4Runner at one time and always wanted to carb swap it just to say I did. Divorce forced me to get rid of it but it had the driver’s side head gasket leaking on it. I sure enjoyed it even though it was a 2wd and a 3slow engine.
Many don't know it but the 1988-1989 3VZE used head gaskets with asbestos and had zero issues. 1990 forwards they had to stop using asbestos gaskets and ran into issues. The engine itself is BULLET PROOF with the right gaskets. If you're lucky you have a low mile 89 in this body if never into should go your typical 250k-300k miles without head gasket issues 🍻

Funny, I actually noticed the same thing while I was editing the video before I posted it. Had to go all the way back and fix it. Fun.

Carb swap would be a cool thing to do.

Don't replace the starter. If it starts having trouble, just replace the contacts in it. It's easy to do and cheap.
