  • Enjoy our roadtrip as we navigate across America with Ryan and the driver and Brittni as the navigator, although, maybe we should have taken Jacksons directions this week as we drive this RV across America.

    We are cruisers with 2 JR’s currently in Mexico waiting out hurricane season. I am originally from Ill and my great grandmother was Amish. Know that they do not like being filmed. Different groups have slightly different rules concerning use of electricity , don’t have church buildings- rather they meet at different peoples houses. Passing a buggy is allowed as long as you can safely pass without running them off the road!😛 They usually have a restaurant that the community runs for the tourists. It will usually be a buffet and be sure to try the bread pudding! Drive safe! SV Dulcinea Brad and robin

      thanks so much for the insight! we are so fascinated by their community. We found everyone we drove past, for the most part, to come across very friendly and waving at us as we passed by. We made sure not to be too invasive and only filmed from a distance. We wanted so badly to drive up to their farms as many had products advertised for sale, but we didnt want to intrude and weren't sure of what was appropriate.

    Awesome video, as far as passing the buggy's be cautious. FYI Amish beatdowns are rare ha ha. The Amish work ethic and quality of workmanship are top notch.

    You guys are cracking me up with your obsession with the Amish people!! I am very spoiled as I have an Amish Market just a half hour away and I can vouch for the homemade deliciousness of the food! Hope you find that Amish Walmart in your travels 🤣

    Beautiful video guys. The Amish are well-known for their woodworking skills. Their master craftsmen. Their furniture is always easily identifiable by them. I just watched another documentary about them. It was very disturbing. I’m sure this must not go on in all communities of Amish at least I would hope not. There is a lot of rape and incest that goes on. It’s not discussed. It’s rarely turned in. Just made me really sad to hear about it all. I’ve always admired these people and how they live. And respect their ways and their choice to live this way. Like I said, I’m hoping this was an isolated community. Their stores are supposed to be phenomenal. I have a friend of mine who sends me stuff from time to time she is in Michigan. Out in California we don’t have anything like that. I’m glad you guys are enjoying your trip. Sending lots of love to the four of you and safe travels. LIZ from California.

    Cool video
    The Amish, I think, are like the Menomites here in Canada, but are more strict in using modernization.

    Unlike the Amish, Mennonites are not prohibited from using motorized vehicles. In addition, Mennonites are also allowed to use electricity and telephones in their homes. When it comes to their beliefs, the Amish and Mennonite faiths are very similar. The differences lie mainly in the outward practice of those beliefs.

    Nice camper... I wonder what you have to do to become Amish... Not paying taxes does have it's advantages... Do they have passports... Imagine if one of them bought bit coin at $2.00, and sold it for $60K... No taxes... hahaha

    Always love your videos. Love your fascination with learning about new lifestyles. To the best of my knowledge the Amish do not like being photographed. So if they seem shy at times if you have a camera that may be why.

      yes we weren't sure of their stance so tried to film from a distance and be respectful. most seemed extremely friendly and smiled and waved. We wished we had more time would of loved to have a chat and get to know some of the locals and hear more about their life, at the same time we didnt want to intrude and come across rude because of our fascination lol

    i used to live in amish country, ive also workd with them and have bought a lot of bread, butter, honey, pies, etc from them as well as had them mill lumber and bought a lot of misc building materials from them. they would frame up houses and we would come do other stuff like plumbing electric etc, some of them would ask us to buy them wine coolers so they could have a drink while they were away from the amish community, they are pretty nice people overall. good food too.

      Everyone we saw, although from a distance seemed very friendly, always offering a wave. Most homes had signs advertising their products.... handmade goods, food , woodwork etc. we wanted so bad to drive up the driveways and buy something but didn't know if that was ok and didn't want to be rude or intrude lol.

      If they have signs or a shed of veggies for sale you are welcome to stop. They usually have a place to pay, so they might not be there and work off honesty

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  หลายเดือนก่อน

      They all had signs at the end of their driveways but we couldn't see any sheds close to the Road that allowed us to just pull over, they almost all had long driveways and it felt like we would be invading their space and privacy if we did that so we chickened out haha!

    You won't be taking selfies with the Amish, LoL. No pictures. They are the most honest hard working people you will ever meet. Try to find one of their farm markets, you will be amazed. Good luck on your journey. By the way everyone that is not Amish are called English.
