First matched I watched on TV as a 7 year old kid, supported Liverpool ever since, used to go to games as a kid although based in Essex. Shankly retired the following season so I believe this is was last game as manager. Nice to see this interview, thanks for putting it up. RIP Tommy Smith
Same for me. The only difference is I was 8 years old (though born in 65 my birthday is in October). Since then always a Liverpool supporter. RIP Tommy Smith.
From the era when football was still within the reach of the common man. When our support really mattered... when fans still mixed in the same circles as the players and drove the same cars.
I met Tommy Smith in Fazakerley Hospital........much after he retired....he was having problems with his knees....same as my wife.....he spoke to her with concern....encouraged her....a real gentleman he was.....R.I.P. Tommy. And Thank you.
@Cool Dude nope, I know this very well. And since you think that you know better than me, I will challenge you to rate the strong and weak sides of Shanks, Paisley and Fagan. Then we will quickly find out what you know these managers
Day i became a loyal Liverpool fan may 4th 1974 still going strong 44 years on. home away and Europe thanks for the great memories shanks ynwa god bless 🙏❤
i remember before the 1979 Cup Final there was a quiz question that said "What was brought to Wembley every year but never used". The answer was the losers ribbons for the FA Cup. However, it may have been Brian Clough who said that the answer should be Malcolm McDonald !!
@@edmundpower1250 Well before the game there are two sets of ribbons as the result is not known. One set becomes the losers ribbons once the game is over.
proper footballers tashes sideburns milk haha , think its to show the public they don't drink booz strait away who they trying to kid they cant wait to go on the lash , great stuff
Crazy Horse saying at the end there we've won the league and 2 cups this year and now the FA cup what more do you want? Funny hearing that when they were just round the corner from those wonder years of European domination under Paisley

Tommy Smith what a player! Supermac was lightning quick!
I always thought Supermac was a Geordie. Obviously I was wrong. This Liverpool side morphing into 77 was the greatest English club side ever. PUSB
Legends of Liverpool .and fair play to super Mac
Holy men of yesteryear. Pillars of the Community.
Fair play to supermac.. Very humble in defeat
Rest In Peace Anfield Iron...!!!
💪💪💪....👏👏👏👏
RIP Tommy Smith. God bless YMWA
You'll mever walk alone
Shanks had his number, the greatest manager what a proper genius.
In the days when winning the FA cup meant something - even to Liverpool.
One of the greatest team England has ever seen, and the greatest manager that has ever lived.
i love shanks, but he was rubbish at tactics
@Cool Dude nope, I know this very well. And since you think that you know better than me, I will challenge you to rate the strong and weak sides of Shanks, Paisley and Fagan. Then we will quickly find out what you know these managers
@Cool Dude Shanks was not very good at tactics. Very simple. He had other very very strong sides, tactics was for sure not one of them

3 England captains standing next to eachother (KK, Crazy Horse- and Phil Thompson wore the armband once I think)

Love listening to Shanks.
went to that game, great memories
Love that microphone.....poor Supermac!
The Milk Marketing Board used to have Liverpool FC in its TV ads around 1978-1980.
Didn't they sponsor the League Cup for a few years as well in the 1980s?
Tommy Smith - the Anfield Iron ! A great player, from an old Man City fan. Though to be fair, I can't now do with football with all these foreigners.
Tommy Smith was a real hard man - but fair ! These players today would have shit themselves coming up against Tommy Smith.
@@peteb8556 THUG
@@patrickmurphy1803 some thug then.
A thug in your eyes who won everything in club football apart from The League Cup
We out classed them, Red star Belgrade games earlier that season paid dividends that we learnt from
Drinking milk. Clever. It puts a nice lining in the stomach in preparation for all the beer & whiskey later on! Modern players haven’t a clue!
And irritation of it if lactose intolerant
Shankly played in 1938 final.
He did indeed for the then mighty Preston North end 👌
MacDonald being very sporting after trash talking before the game.
Trash talking? What did he say?
Mac said he was goin to bury them an win easy big mouth add to eat is words 😆😆😆😅😅

Indeed. Paisley was about to take the reins and make a very good side even better

Celebrating with a bottle of milk. Great days
The Liverpool players didn’t drink milk after today.
Why would Malcolm MacDonald be having a busy summer in 1974? England didn't qualify for the World Cup that year. Maybe he was a pundit?
VERY SAD THE WAY THE GREAT SHANKS WAS TREATED BY POOL SHUNNED AND COLD RECEPTION AT ANFIELD
"WHAT MORE DO YE WANT"? HUMILITY MAYBE, JUST A LITTLE NOT LOADS
Shanks was wrong Derby won the league the following year not Liverpool
@Yorkie8 Yep, he always talked his team up. I agree though, Leeds were the best side that year, without doubt
They may have done if he didn't retire.
are they drinking milk wow
Are they drinking milk?
Milk had a big advertisement drive on at the time, I remember it well
