Thank you for these great suggestions! I'm sort of in "rebuild" mode as a freelance composer. I've had some nice credits in the past and I'm trying to get back into it. I'm not sure the best way to reach out to companies/people. Is it still email? Or something else? Thank you.

Great insights and tips, thank you for sharing those! I think another topic that would be interesting to many viewers (me included) is how to build up your portfolio or create a demo-reel, especially if you're starting out from zero.
At the beginning of this year I had a lot of luck to get into contact with a film company who are just starting out, they made this huge low-budget production over the last year which turned out to be a pretty well produced action-adventure movie. I got to score a part of the soundtrack including their Trailer, which was one of those "work for free" jobs, but it kind of forced me to improve a lot in the cinematic genre over the span of the last few months.
So I think this is another aspect that shouldn't be overlooked, once you start working for other projects you really get into the mindset to only deliver your best possible work, I feel like this results in much faster growth than you'd have from "just" writing for Royalty Free libraries.

That's a really great point Frodo, when that pressure is applied you really push yourself so much more to create the best work possible! That's a good suggestion about building a demo reel from scratch, I"ll put that on the list for future topics! Thanks man 😊

Hey Stevie! The content you upload is great! Not only the content is great but also your way of presenting it. Thank you for that! A bit off topic but I was wondering if you or any of your subscribers is also facing issues with submitting tracks to 123RF as well as motionelements? Until a couple of weeks ago, I've been uploading music tracks to both without any problems but I'm having issues now... Love to hear from you and/or your subscribers.

Hi Ruud! Thanks for watching, I recommend joining my Discord server as I am not a member of 123rf or motion elements currently but there is many authors in the server who are, who may be able to help you out with your issues!

Very informative. I'm going to film school right now (transferred from Berklee) knowing that I wanted to score my own films if at all possible. I've scored quite a few short films entirely for free, making great connections with some awesome people, but I just can't seem to get any work apart from free. At one point I scored a 15 minute short film that had about 10 minutes of music while doing classes full time and working part time which was absolutely too much for no pay. I don't know if I'm being prideful and I should just humble myself and keep doing these starter projects for free, or if it's time for me to put my foot down and only accept paid work (the problem being I have zero paid work hahaha).

Yeah it's tough out there. Free is great if it's something you can use for your demo reel, but comes a time when you need to pay the bills also!
