Sadly, I only discovered Mary a couple of years ago, what have I been missing all this time? Played Dubliners version then others popped up on TH-cam and I immediately fell in love with Mary's voice, all her songs are wonderful, play them every day. Mary Duff in my opinion, is the greatest female voice ever to grace a stage, no matter the genre. Lord willing, I will someday see her in Branson or wherever. Thanks for posting and God Bless, Jeff

My daddys father worked his life in the coal mine, his children became educated as Doctors,Teachers Dentists, as well as being great parents, - all because one man who had a dream to stay in Ireland couldnt and went back to the pits in liverpool to make sure his children had a future, im so proud of him- could you imagine if he didnt? He died of empysema /total slow lung disease and he did this for his children and his future children, i will always admire,honor and love this man xx And yes he was IRISH x
I was there! I was very moved when she sung Working Man! She gave a great performance! It so happened her band couldn't get visas to come so she had to use a local band, but they did a great job!
Mary Duff is probably among my top 5 female vocalists of all time and although Rita MacNeil probably isn't in my top 50, it is pretty hard to beat Rita and the original Men of the Deep with the "Working Man" but thank you Mary for keeping that song alive and well.

I drove to Branson Missouri, and I drove to Halifax Nova Scotia, and I drove to Halifax Nova Scotia again, and finally I drove to Saint-John New Brunswick, every time to see a Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff concert. My mother loved Daniel O'Donnell, and wanted to see a live concert... four times, the last time she was battling cancer. The first time we heard Mary Duff sing Working Man (by Rita MacNeil) in Halifax, she would have received a standing ovation had she waited a couple more seconds before the band began the next song. I could see people rise up from their seats as Mary turned towards the band. This song has so much meaning to the people of Nova Scotia (Canada), their tragic coal mining history, and their love for Rita MacNeil, one of Nova Scotia's many musical talents. Our mother is now gone, but we have the memories, pictures, and autographs to last a lifetime. Thank you Mary, Daniel, and the band, till we meet again.

Ah, I disagree with ya, Wayne. Mary has a much clearer voice than Rita, also she does the song with a more smooth tempo. This video is not her best rendition of it, but the song is one of my favorite Mary Duff tunes. I have seen her sing it live and she is AWESOME!

Duff's version can't be beat..... I thought..... My friend, I must agree with you. Ms McNeil truly does "own" this. The feeling is "there". Beautiful lady and BEAUTIFUL voice....No disrespect to Ms Duff at all.
Rita Mc Neill wrote this song and made it her own.Her version will not be bettered But Mary has to be a close second she has such a great range in her voice.Lovely.
Marys rendition of this song is great, I have heard it said that Rita McNeil owns it but when I heard her sing it (maybe it was an off night), it was certainly no better than Mary here with this version.
