Tell me about it. Try being tech support for PCH and having to troubleshoot with old people constantly. Majority of the time Adblock and plug-ins fucks the entire site up and makes it not work altogether.
The amount of bugs in the games is a pain in the ass. Corresponding with the devs for website and their apps as part of tech support sucked some major donkey ass.

Little do they know, if you’re a stranger with a camera guy, balloons and a big check walking up to someone’s house... they’re going to be surprised and confused, you can still announce yourself as any stranger would 😂

You know how there's youtube channels that you can just tell are geared towards grifting kids?
The PCH site looks like it was made with the intention of specifically grifting old people. Which makes sense.
It is typically directed toward old people with nothing better to do who will waste their lives away playing the retarded games and watching endless ads at the small chance to win. Some do actually just do it because they enjoy the simplistic games though rather than expecting to win anything. I’ve heard from some PCH customers their doctor even recommended the games because it somewhat helps with their condition as a form of keeping their minds active.
Anything to due with finance and or making money on social media. Either through investments or contests should always be looked at critically because anything to do with money can be a scam.

My best friend's mother was in the beginning stages of dementia and spent literally tens of thousands of dollars on terrible, Dollar Tree-style products in the hopes that she'd win these prizes, and I think PCH relies entirely on this confusing marketing to get money out of the gullible.

I liked to lick sharpies as a kid. I'm still alive. for how long is still uncertain however.
My parents dressed up as PCH one year for Halloween. My mom walked into the party wearing pjs and her hair in curlers. She didn’t say a word and just walked around for 10 minutes (her friends started getting concerned). Then my dad knocked on the front door yelling for my mom. He was wearing a suit and had balloons and a fake check we made. It really confused everyone until they saw them together and it ended up being a big hit that year.

This video was so on-point. My Grandmere was a longtime PCH participant, hoping that she would win the x-number-of-dollars-a-week for life so she could eventually leave something substantial behind for my family. The sad thing was that, in this quest to provide for my family, she was bombarded with mail everyday from PCH (she didn't have a computer so she didn't get the virtual side of it), often encouraging her to drop boatloads of cash on cheap products that broke within a day, which she did to increase her chances of winning. She unfortunately never won, but the despicable thing is that, to this day, despite the fact that she hasn't replied to a PCH letter in about 2 years since she died, we still receive letters on her behalf encouraging her to either mail back entries or buy low quality items from them. I am totally convinced that this company is a scam, only having a couple winners a year to allow them to fly under the radar.
I grew up watching my mom enter PCH and many other sweepstakes scams like this. In the 70s and 80s when she did it it was all by mail. All those adds you just scrolled by came to our house, via the mailbox in the form of booklet sized catalogs.
She used to say, "Make a list of everything you want! When we win I'm going to take you to the store to buy it all!"
As a kid of 5 through about 10 I was on board with the list but after that I figured out it was all a waste of time. I told her as much and then she blamed me for her not being a millionaire. I was giving her "bad vibes" and "ruining" her 1/620 bazillion chance of "winning".
As if a 10 year old child had that kind of power.
She was still entering when she was in her 70s.
Its weird how they give the winnings to old ppl because if they gave it to a 20year old for the rest of their life they would go out of business
I mean, they had a yearly revenue of 840 million dollars in 2013, and 5000 a week is only $260k per year. The chances of the $5000 a week are something like 1 in 6 billion.

They could just pretend like they have her name, get her to tell it to them, and then just say yes to whatever she said. I know PCH is a "legit" organization but that's still sketchy af

Fox used to have a show called Beyond Belief where it would be used to reenact some weird stories or just make them up and it'd be up to the viewers to guess which was which. One (sadly fake) story had a guy call a hit out on his wife but then he tried to call it off at the last minute but it was looking iffy because the middleman was having trouble finding the hitman. Anyway one night they were being followed by some shifty looking people in a white van and when finally cornered the folks go up to his wife and the husband was like "no wait I canceled the hit" and they were really some PCH type people but the whole thing freaked the husband out so much he dropped dead of a heart attack on the spot.
2 things, when that guy grabbed the poor ladies hand I was INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE, and Scotty...you put sharpie on your tongue

Honestly, I would be interested on the products that can work for everybody. Stuff targeted towards men is often higher quality than what we get.
Not only does PCH get money from advertisers selling their products, but they also get money from advertisers by selling your information to them. So if you enter and don't click the teeny, tiny, easy-to-miss button at the bottom of the screen that says "Do Not Sell My Information," then you'll end up with lots of other unwanted emails, phone calls, junk mail, etc.
I just set up an email account only meant for junk mailers because sometimes I may want coupons
The saddest part is imagining the winners while they're applying for these giveaways.
Just the image of the sweet old people sitting at their computer getting jump scared every three seconds, so confused about everything but just goes with it

The sheer creepiness of the PCH people is astonishing and impressive in a way.

I won publishers clearing house once. It was truly a life changing experience. Sure the $10 check they sent in the mail was nice but, the real prize is being able to say I won Publishers Clearing House.
PCH started sending “free gifts” to my dad, (they were weird items that no one actually wants/needs) and thennnnn...we started getting bills for the items, lol. He never ordered anything, either.

What actually happens is that when they send in their sweepstakes mailing they put the stamp to receive the free mystery gift on the sweepstakes/order entry form. They think it’s completely free or misunderstand what it actually is. It’s a gift valued up to $30 but adds $4.99 to shipping and handling. Some people think they can put a stamp on for an item below $30 and that’s the gift they’re getting but it’s completely separate. It’s all explained on the stupid obnoxious order entry form they send through the mail.
It is also possible to accidentally add it to your cart when going through the entry process online if you’re just mindlessly clicking through without reading what you’re clicking.

My grandma has been entered in the PCH sweepstakes for 18 years now. This is and has been a “free” lottery tailored to middle aged and elderly folk who don’t know better and have time to waste
You can put "free" in quotes but it's literally free. I've entered countless times and never paid a cent. Buying things is optional and is one way they generate revenue for the prizes. It says everywhere that you don't have to buy anything to win. You don't even need to buy a stamp, you can enter online. PCH isn't a scam, even if you don't like it.

I’m a mailman and pch has to account for 50% of all stamps ever used. Old ppl send out 3-5 pch letters at a time all with stamps and special stickers on them then get a bunch of packages a few weeks later. How is this not a scam?!?
My grandmother got scammed multiple times by people pretending to be PCH. She even sent off $5000 to someone claiming she had won a brand new car and 5 million dollars and a visit from the governor. PCH and their scammers still send her tons of spam mail to this day.

@Nic Lazzari That comment went to far, Angelo doesn't own the company and has no say in their dealings. However, Angelo I am glad your mom is able to make a living working there, but it's a sore subject because a lot of us have elderly family members that are being scammed by them consistently.
@Nic Lazzari From what I could find it is most likely a legitimate business, albeit very questionable, but legitimate nonetheless. Multiple sites will be reaffirming in this, Publisher's Clearing House also has a trademark (multiple actually, you can find them via the USPTO's TESS database on their website), however given the popularity there are scams impersonating PCH. And considering the hassle of getting a trademark, I doubt some scammer is going to spend thousands of dollars on an attorney and after a long time to get only a few thousand back. Also note that (given the odds) it is very pointless to attempt to get anything from PCH, but I guess you could win after multiple decades (probably) of signing up to giveaways.

The moment I saw Steve Harvey, I knew something shady was afoot.
PCH itself isn’t actually too shady in terms of actually giving out money. The prizes are legit and I’ve personally spoken to winners and I’ve seen the inner working of the system since I worked for them. They do have aggressive marketing practices though. But there are ALOT of scams that target elderly people impersonating PCH. I’ve spoken to many victims who’ve fallen for those scams. Sad thing is all we can do is collect their information and forward it to the FTC. But these scams are typically all run overseas and not much can be done to track them down as with many other scams like tech support ones.

I'm glad that you mentioned the Sprouse sweepstakes because I won a DS game on one of those (not the grand prize, just a "you didn't fully lose" prize) and that's the only time I've ever won anything.

It's not a scam anyone "falls for." There are plenty of scams out there. Watch scam baiting you tubers for examples. This isn't one. It's literally free to enter.
