This song is a ballad and is supposed to be calm and downtempo, but Jay Kay sings with very fast phrasing, which conveys a feeling of precipitation, like if it was an intense song. That weird contrast between the two, is the genius of this song. The contrast between quiet nature (Black Crow) and the violence of the war (Humans). A Truly hidden gem of the band, and a unique song

Very 70s feel
This part is like a tribute to Roy Ayers. Impossible not to love it :)
I think this song has been inspired by the irish legend of the Mórrígan ("Tall" Queen), the godess of royalty, destiny, and death. She would go on battle fields under the shape of a crow, to decide of the path the battle will take and of the soldiers' destiny. She was infusing violence within both troops, in order to give them the willingness to fight. She was infusing in the mind of soldiers either strenght, cowardice or resilience. She can also give chance. But she can also take it back. Considered like a witch by some, she's seductive, but grim, and mostly, mysterious. She's watching the battle, she's controling it, but she isn't on the side of nobody. She lead the battle, she doesn't lead a troop; she lead in order for the battle to have an end and a beginning, she doesn't lead in order to have a victory or a loss; she's understanding everything, but she knows nothing at all.
When a soldier see the Mórrígan, he knows is going to die. So he maybe asks her, " Black crow, black crow, tell me what you really know, will we flourish in this hurricane, or will we fall and die?...", talking about the destiny of his clan, that he will not have time to see, and his own destiny after life. But I guess the Mórrígan never answers to that. She opens her wings and go fly above the battle field, where she saw everything. I think we all wanna question the Mórrígan sometimes, lost in the battle the world is leading and in our own battle life.
This song always had a particular resonance in me. Even if some questions doesn't have answers, we have to ask them, because it will bring to us melancholia, but also serenity, and that's how we will grow.

severely underrated
I was a huge fan of their first two albums but then moved on. I saw this album after years later and bought it on sight because of the album art. This song was what got me back into this amazing band.
