    We talked before little bit ago. I'm sending your project Appleseed prep to another family member I think it'll help him greatly. He's in Maryland so just outside the Beltway of Baltimore there's a place up there I'll send him. Thank you again my friend

    I thought I would let you know how helpful your prep class is. I attended my first Appleseed this weekend. My first AQT I scored a riflemen score. I shot 8 other AQT’s all of them riflemen score. I was close to getting the distinguished rocker patch a few times my closet run I was 237. I contributed my success to watching your series. Thank you.

    • @AmbGun

      Awesome. It's very rare for shooters to get the Rifleman score st their first event...extremely rare to get it on the first AQT.
      Be sure to let me know when you get that Distinguished patch...or if you do a KD.

    I am happy to report that today’s training came with an AQT. I scored my personal best today with a 213! Previously it was 183. Stage 4 was always my worst. Shooting prone with the Marlin 39 just ain’t natural for me. At Seven pounds going slowly just builds pressure in my wrist. I have gone too fast and too slow in the past. This time I trained to find a rhythm in breathing and firing to speed things up just a tad to avoid pain but not at the expense of technique. That was helpful. Conditions were: Untimed, reload as stated in the AQT directions, Marlin 39 with Skinner sights, CCI .22LR CB Shorts (710fps). For me these are the conditions I can get to to train in an area that is not a firing range at my convenience. I know time will be a factor concerning reloads, 28 meters is much greater challenge for my eyes and I will be using CCI Standard Pressure ammo. Thanks for all your feedback, help and support. Since today was just training, I was looking for growth and I feel that is what happened!

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent. Keep in mind that you have 5 minutes for stage 4. Plenty of time to take a break and stretch...if needed.
      However, NPOA is key and once you get it rifleman's cadence based on breathing cycle will get the job done in much less time...so your thinking is spot on.
      Time is only a factor on stage 2&3. If you get behind on the clock, just accelerate your breathing cycle.

      @@AmbGun I had an advantage - retired Navy Corpsman with 14 years service with the Marines. I put on my orange hat on my second Appleseed and will likely get my red hat in the next few months. Have you ever covered the Known Distance events in any of your videos? May be food for thought if you haven't.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Docsporseen1 I suspect it was all similar to your instruction in the USMC. Since you're on this channel, I expect you to score Rifleman left and right handed.
      I earned my Known Distance patch in Laramie a few years ago on a surprisingly calm Wyoming day so it was cheating. I do have the KD Instructor's Manual, but I don't feel quite qualified to do a video.
      A terrific resource you should check out is The Long Range Shooting Simulator by Shooter Ready. A "video game" teaching how to use a mildot reticle.

    Thank you for these very informative videos. I am prepping for my first Appleseed several times a week. My rifle is my father's Marlin 39A. Are there any accommodations or differences you know of for participants with "old " guns? I have added a Skinner peep rear sight.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The instructors will accommodate your tube fed lever gun. It may get tiring for you, so just plan on taking a break or two from the course of fire each day. Skinner peep sights are solid. There's no reason you can't earn your Rifleman patch, but you might have to attend 2 or 3 events to get there. It will be extra satisfying when you do.
      Don't rush. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast....or more like really focus on steady hold factors, NPOA, and six steps to firing the shot. Perfect form is needed to nail stage 4. Dominate there and you don't have stress out about stage 2&3.

    • @buddditchendorf1847
      @buddditchendorf1847 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AmbGun thank you for your advice. I purchased a pack of AQT and Red Coat targets and did an untimed baseline test for myself and sure enough, you are spot on. Stage 4 was my worst score. I am most specifically curious about reloading a tube fed gun for stage 2 and 3 while timed. That seems unlikely to accomplish reloading, restabliosing position, and accuracy under those time constraints with tube fed.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's how you'll be doing the tube mag thing:
      Tube Fed Rifles Only
      When they hear the command "Shooters, Your Preparation Has Ended" - they will:
      • Place their safeties on.
      • Insert their chamber flags.
      • Prep their tubes with the appropriate number of rounds.
      While this can be done while kneeling, it is preferable and safer to sit cross-legged, perpendicular to the target with the muzzle downrange, with the rifle butt under 1 thigh and the barrel over the other, and this prepping can be done faster with a speed loader, which may simply consist of a large diameter straw.
      For the Transition Stages, Stage 2 and Stage 3, the appropriate number of rounds will be 11. After firing 2 rounds, the next 1 will be ejected and firing will continue.
      • Lock the tube plunger.
      • At the LOAD command, remove the flag, insert a round in the chamber, and take the safety off. For the Transition Stages of course, there will be no LOAD command. For these stages this LOAD process will begin when the shooters assume the appropriate firing position after the FIRE command.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NPOA is absolute key to stage 4. Do the whole close your eyes, breath, open eyes thing several times. You have 5 minutes, no reason to rush.
      Everyone thinks they can, but you can't fake NPOA.

    I am enjoying training a little every day for my upcoming Appleseed class. Thank you for your advice on what I should expect when using my Marlin 39 at Appleseed. I am wondering if you recommend pellet air rifles as training tools to supplement my Appleseed training. I borrowed a Crosman F4 from a friend. Even with a nitro piston (one recoil) it is a different experience from 22LR.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really look forward to hearing how your first Appleseed goes with that lever gun. In what state will you be attending?
      Recoil is really not something to worry about...for one, 22's have almost none, but even for centerfire, once you get in the zone it just seems like a distant woomph.

    • @buddditchendorf1847
      @buddditchendorf1847 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be attending at Hurlburt AFB in Ft. Walton Beach Fl.
      I have borrowed a Rossi RS22 with TechSights. I have now trained with that and my Marlin. Two entirety different experiences. Am I doing something wrong if I experience pain in wrist of my support hand when using attempting a steady hold for a long time? Of course the Rossi at four pounds causes no discomfort.

    • @AmbGun
      @AmbGun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buddditchendorf1847 The semi-auto Rossi will make your life much easier and Tech-Sights are the best iron sights.
      Getting one's elbow directly underneath the rifle can be a challenge at first. I've never had wrist pain though. Hand should be relaxed and open. You could try rotating your hand so that the thumb is on the trigger hand side....although that probably stresses the wrist a bit more.
