Nice transitions from 9:14 - 9:28, and from 13:40 to 13:52. i extend the second transition as the next turn to take is a slight left into a slight right on spa and then the next clip shows a left turn into a right turn
12:28 GT5 was developed for 5 years, but was 4 after the PS3 released
Does the screen tearing still happen at 720p? if ran at "1080p" then it would drop below 60fps, making screen tearing
the way you said low at 14:22 bruh lmfao
14:36 Missed opportunity to say "Now, what game do I actually like going into much later? RAID SHADOW LEGENDS" and then have a sponsor segment for and by notMG

It’s not just GT5. If a game isn’t able to connect to PSN servers, you would be logged out of PSN in-game, and sometimes on the XMB as well.
I do not believe you can change this.
Logging into PSN will not fix the problem, because the games PSN services have been shut down.

I really loved GT5, and it was the biggest jump in the series in terms of content and features: dynamic weather and time, damage, customization, track editor, WRC, online, Nascar, Top Gear, a partnership with Sébastien Loeb, Jeff Gordon and Sebastian Vettel...etc. but I think that was part of the problem, it was too ambitious.

    • @TheJakeMG
      @TheJakeMG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

As well as that, think about the small number of rally tracks, limited track editor, bad animations for the drivers that they collaborated with, damage being limited to higher levels (???) and specific cars, etc... Quantity and ambition trumped quality in GT5.

When it came out I was so excited about it, I had been playing gran turismo 4 for years, and I absolutely loved the in depth tuning of the game, being able to fine tune the vehicle with the suspension setting, the differential, the weight distribution and especially the gearing ratios. GT5 was super amazing at first but once I realized the complete lack of gear ratio tuning in GT5, I was completely and utterly disappointed with it and couldn’t play it any further. That to me was a huge turning point and it tainted what would have been a pretty awesome game

While I think PD are to blame for a lot of this game's problems, I also think that some of its issues are because of the PS3 itself and how much of a headache it was to develop for. I think it's fair to say that the career structure and UI could have easily been better, but the game's mediocre graphics are somewhat forgivable given the hardware they were developing for imo.

Alright, I'm commenting again on this video as I didn't get a chance to elaborate my views on your video overall. I agree with you on most of the issues in the game, though I will say I didn't notice anything rough about the visuals outside the obvious standard cars. I remember defending them quite a bit when I first played GT5, often thinking they were better in than out. But now, I feel like they were a waste, I would've rather have PD spend the time just modeling a few more PS3 tier cars than just port all of the PS2 cars over.
The second issue with them in GT5 is that they make the car list feel inflated. Yes, there's over 1,000 cars in the game, but a good portion of that list are cars very similar to each other, especially the ones that are region rebadges of each other like the Mazda MX-5/Miata/Eunos Roadster for instance. PD should've just kept the JDM models and dumped the rest.
I'm soooo glad you mentioned the B-Spec mode, this peeved me, having to playthrough the same career mode twice, but with an AI driver doing it. To add insult to injury about not being able to speed up the race, they tripled the race length of each event. I HATED that! and I believe the prize cars were better too, which was annoying.
Until the season events and daily login bonus got established, the in-game economy was also terrible with some cars costing between 10 and 20 million credits, meaning if I wanted a Ford MkIV, I would have to spend countless hours grinding for it. A problem that still hasn't been fixed in GT Sport.
Lastly, I will agree with you on the level up system being a big problem, buutt if I'm honest. I didn't struggle as much as you. I remember being able to get to level 15 quite easily, I didn't notice issues with it until the high 20s and lower 30s. Maybe because I did a different path from yours?

    • @mickfavel1389
      @mickfavel1389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Great comment! I'm playing GT5 for the first time right now and I find the B Spec portion of the game to be my least favorite part- due to it's length.
I also find the leveling up to be problematic. I had no issues starting, but I'm at level 30 now and have to mindlessly grind just to level up. Also, if it's true I will need 3 B Spec drivers to finish the final 2 races of the game, that's like finishing the game 3 times just in B Spec!
I'm also waiting for the Gran Turismo Formula to appear in the UCD, which is another huge pain of this game, considering how rewarding getting a F1 car is in GT3&4.
Sadly though, I am experiencing this game for the first time way past it's prime. I will never get to experience online racing and all of the other perks the online option allowed, which was a first for the GT series up until this point.

I love GT5 even with its flaws, I'm playing it again recently and I enjoy it even more because I changed the way I play, made possible only because THE ONLINE SERVICE PERIOD FOR GRAN TURISMO 5 HAS COME TO AN END. The graphics aged meh, a bit dark but I could live with it(I'm sick of screen tearing though). I have no problem with the level progression, mainly because I tune my car while racing(gives me xp) and I repeated a lot of races due to me having less than 100pp or more compared to my opponents because they're THAT slow. I made the game difficult for myself because I used save editor to give me tons of money to make grinding obsolete, it's my way of balancing the game and it's way more enjoyable because I was racing to win, not to earn money.
I agree with your take on the UI being rubbish but more than the UI design itself, I felt like the whole thing was just so slow, it isn't hard to navigate in terms of visibility or the amount of infos on shown on screen, it's just slow for me. The cursor animation takes time and you can't move them quickly, the transition between screens takes MORE time, so it made the whole process of tuning, going to auto shop, buying cars, and choosing track become so tedious. I wish we could change cars/race settings during practices to make life so much easier too, I think that's the worst offender on the functions of the game.
My main complaint on this game is the race difficulty. The AI's could've been more aggressive, there's no tire wear in races(offline), and there's no tire restrictions. Next is the Used Dealership, way too much Mitsubishi 3000GT, MX-5, just JDM in general. I'm a JDM guy myself but I think PD was a bit too biased on the selections. Also, the rare high end cars are way too expensive considering your wallet cap is only 20M, the price of 330 P4 Race Car '67 is 20M so wtf is this?
I wouldn't recommend this game unless you use save editor like I do, the grinding is nuts, makes racing a chore so you would simply use the fastest car/best tire to make winning guaranteed, it's boring. Save Editor(add money/cars/DLC) guide is on gtplanet if you're interested and happen to read until here, also you can refresh Used Dealership by going to license tests, and enter the first one and just go to the next test without actually playing. Do this until you reach the 6th test(that's if you started from the first), and then leave. Yay, your Used Dealership is completely refreshed. That's my gift for those who read this long comment lol.
    Peepeepoopoo.

As someone who played the hell out of GT5 and looks at it with an unbiased eye, the word you're looking for is "Bloated". Its a game that really tryed to do so much but unlike where GT4 felt like a well made sandbox, GT5 and its really delayed nature just felt a game that they tryed to shoehorn nearly everything in. The Standard cars aren't even the PS2 quality models, they're the models plucked directly from GT PSP. And as much as I had fun times both offline and with friends, I still cannot forgive the criminally long loading times for both (With Online being the absolute worst). For me, its an awkward one. Its so bloated and feels like it didn't need to be this huge..and yet, I actually sorta like it more then GT6 because despite GT6 being clearly less bloated and better working game (Sure as hell didn't leave me in a loading limbo for years when I came back to it like GT5 had), it also feels like the less ambitious and "By the numbers" game too.

So, I spent days working up to having 20,000,000. I went to get my 2nd GT Red Bull X 2020 and was told that I couldn't have one because I was not yet at level 40 in B-Spec. I GOT ONE AT THE LEVEL 25 MARK...who the hell thought that little delight up? Now, I have to do loads of races that I find, frankly, boring, to get my Xp level to 40. I think I prefer GT4 - I always felt at home with that version, and I loved being able to speed up the Endurance events by x 3.

Great video. So many GT fans look back on this game game fondly and I'm always like really? This absolute travesty?
I have some nice memories of the multiplayer and finally being able play a GT game with a detailed interior view, but other than that I just remember feeling super let down. Everything was a downgrade compared to 3 and 4.
The U.I was terrible. The "standard" car stuff was such an absolute joke. I remember being so pissed because all of my favorite cars were standard cars that looked and played worse than in GT3 &4. The original tracks also looked terrible because they didn't tweak any of them to fit the new lighting model or even bump up the texture quality, so my favorite tracks trial mountain and deep forest raceway were fugly to look at. Rally which used to be super fun was a downgrade. The physics for the NASCAR racing and Go-Karting were downright laughable. The noises of the cars as a whole were a generation behind. B-Spec mode being tied to the progression ruined any freaking fun I was having in the career mode.
This game was lackluster. It was a letdown with broken promises and false advertising. It came off GT3 and 4 which were some of the best arcade racing sims of all time and fell on it's face. As a GT fan, this game was insulting to play. Sure the driving was still great and you could still have fun in the sandbox of cars, but you can just do the same thing with any past GT game and feel the huge difference in quality.
I did find allot more enjoyment with 6, and I believe 6 actually has allot going for it in comparison. 5 was bad. Thats it. If there was one game to make every PS3 owner yearn for Forza 3 and 4, it was Gran Turismo 5.

Welcome to the world of Gran Turismo, where inconsistencies & amnesia rule, the long history of putting in feature that improves the gaming experience, only to be removed on the next release. If they could ever combine the features, content, progress from all the past games, it would be hell of game, but with the current game (GT7) there back to forgetting again. In GT Sport in the Arcade Mode the first thing it ask for is what car you want to use, in GT7 if you have the wrong car you have to navigate all the back out to the garage, then navigate back to the event. GT4 was almost perfect, but the car list wasn't my favorite, I would rather have had car thumbnails, combined with a list/search feature so I quickly know what I'm looking at.

12:08: B spec can help you understand if your car setup is good. Poorly tuned cars are driven really bad by B spec drivers while the ones you setup correctly, meaning they are stable, have lot of grip and handle well and accelerate well, are driven pretty well by the B spec drivers.

Well, there's one thing that I really hated about GT5: the grind. How many times do you have to drive the same cars on the same tracks in the same events to buy a car that costs 5,000,000 Cr? What about 10,000,000 Cr? Just considering the amount of grind it takes to get those is ridiculous. Hell, there's not even enough racing content to keep yourself entertained during the grind. Are you supposed to just grind your way through Polyphony Digital cup and suffer 40 minutes-long drive on wet Nürburgring for 56 times? Seems like fun, lol.
Another bummer is that you can't win prize cars more than once. That just kills the used car salesman attitude of mine.

I hated the leveling up system. I can't even do the 24 hour races despite finishing the previous endurance races. And I really hated getting the formula gran turismo. I nedded that car to enter the FGT championship. But that car can only be obtained in the used car dealership and it rarely appears.
During development, PD were also working with nascar, redbull, topgear, WRC, and they were also creating gran turismo TV. PD were basically doing a lot of stuff and I think that really hurt the career mode.
For me, I think GT5 would be a lot better if PD focused only on the single player career mode, no standard cars, no b spec mode, and removed leveling up system. The standard cars were just embarrassing. I also felt embarrassed just by driving them. I remember when my dad was watching me play and I put the camera in cockpit view, my dad said "Why is the interior all black? That's not how it looks like in real life? Where is the steering wheel?"
And the b spec mode is so frustrating. If I remember correctly, there is a historic car championship and monaco was one of the tracks. My AI driver would always crashed at the chicane after the tunnel. Honestly, b spec mode just made me angry.
What breaks it for me is the leveling up system. Progress is so slow and I can't even enter a championship even though I have the correct car. The broken leveling up system just brings the game to a halt. I would not recommend GT5 to anyone.

B-spec is just super wacky in GT5, and you have to grind your drivers up just to have them control their cars just a bit better than normal. Thankfully I somehow got my A spec up to 30 and just did the sebasstian vettel red bull challenge and bronzed all the challenges just so that I can have a significantly easier time in B-spec.

So you just explained to us that your biggest problem with GT5 is your own confusion?
The Gran Turismo series is for adults who really know their stuff.
I have played Gran Turismo since GT1 and I can assure you that GT5 is the best game in the series and one of the best racing simulators ever.
    I'll try to explain A-SPEC and B-SPEC:
You're probably familiar with sports games like Football and Football Manager?
It's the same thing just that B-SPEC was for free and you could totally ignore it if you didn't like it.
I personally liked the B-SPEC Mode, the good thing was that the AI learned from your driving in A-SPEC, the better your skills were the better the AI would perform.
The biggest problem with B-SPEC whatsoever was that it wasn't well thought through.
You couldn't tell the AI in what sections to drive at which speed without manually changing it all the time, which means that you had to watch the whole race.
It was impossible to set a round or time or condition when to switch tires or refuel.
Also there was a bug when the B-SPEC drove an endurance race he would intentionally crash into the wall in a straight line and keep pushing into it till the next turn came up which made the longer endurance races unwinnable.
I'm glad you've found this series and I hope you'll invest more time into the core of these games, learn their essence and learn how to configure cars properly, also please don't compare it to Forza since they are very different games.
    My personal top list is:
    1. GT5
    2. GT4
    3. GT2
I know GT2 looks ruff these days but you should definitely try it, it has some quirks they never used again I really liked and it has one of my most favorite cars that unfortunately was never in any other game or series.

I was there. And I played all GT games since 1998 and GT5 IS BY FAR THE WORST IN THE SERIES imo and my least favorite. And for the very reasons you mentioned in that really cool video! But for me the blow was harder. I got the hype from Prologue and waited for years. Pre-ordered the most expensive version available in my country which went for 120€ and asked my wife to leav the house for a week so I could have some time for myself. Lol.
What a disappointment it was. A blow to the guts. I hated the franchise after this. And it took me years to come back to it.
And yes GT4 is by far the best in the series. Period. And FM4 is the GOAT. Forza has never reached such perfection since then but I'm hopeful for the next one coming soon.

Ok, I commented here two years ago, but I think I'll try to get in favour on GT5 this time around.
Even if still, I kinda agree with your opinion.
+About the User Interface: Not much to say here though. I think the main problem GT5's UI had were the outrageous loading times. Because even if it was somewhat (way too much) bloated, at least everything was there. GT4's UI, while more unique, it also had the same problem of being quite messy to navigate.
+About Standard Cars: Fully agree with this. I also undertsand that maybe people would have been disappointment to have another Gran Turismo 3 case, and that they offer more variety in GT5...but I would have choose the first in favour of a higher quality game rather than a bloated one, like GT Sport was (even if Sport had other issues I won't discuss now). However, most of the Standard Cars aren't actually from Gran Turismo 3 & 4, but from Gran Turismo on the PSP. GT6 improved a few of those, that while they may not have interiors, they look similar to a proper Premium Model. Worse thing about Standard Cars is also how little customization they have. Sure, Premium Cars don't have that much customization in GT5 either, but at least you have more options with those than the Standard ones. Like ColourShed, I sold most of my Standard Cars.
+About Used Car Dealership: It was Complete ASS in Gran Turismo 5. It was way too random, and in the beginnng thanks to the leveling system, it gave you less freedom constantly in your options of cars to buy. Not to mention it made ZERO sense to have Race Cars in a USED CAR Dealership. I honestly, barely (or maybe never) used it. Given this poor implementation in GT5, I didn't miss it in 6 and Sport. It has the WORST implementation of the Used Car Slot by a long shot.
+About Progression: Now I think I'll get more in defense of Gran Turismo 5. I think one of the few positives about the leveling system, it's that you are not forced to do the license test in order to progress. I think that's something good that GT5 did, because let's be honest: License Tests are a chore to play, especially in GT4 (it had the worst ones by a large margin). And being honest, that's the moment where Special Events enter. Those events have a lot of issues that could be addresed for a longer video or comment, but they're useful to get some extra money and XP in order to progress and get more money to buy more cars without grinding events like an idiot. It's far from perfect or neither my fav in the series, but it's not as bad as you mention, until...
+About B-Spec: Like the Used Car Slot, IT FUCKING SUCKS. I'll say B-Spec as it's own mode it's not that much of a bad idea, however, it's way too poorly executed. Because they're a copy paste of the A-Spec events, but longer, with no options to speed up the events. But yeah, mostly B-Spec in GT5 is just bad. It improve in some areas from GT4 with the creation of custom driver with different set of skills...but that's wasted potential in a BORING game loop that B-Spec is in GT5.
+About graphics: It's...complicated. As someone who didn't play the Xbox 360 Era of Forza, I won't compare GT5 to that. Let's not forget the CELL Processor the PS3 had, that even Kaz himself said it was a nightmare to develop for. Therefore, Gran Turismo 5 (and 6) offers way more conditions of racing that Forza even to this day can offer (without counting Horizon). Not to mention the Premium Cars that I think you don't give enough credit. In that regard, GT5 was ambitious...but still, GT5 had awful looking transparencies with water spray in rain or smoke and dirt, Standard Cars and some tracks look quite dead. Like ColourShed said twice: "For a game that took half a decade to develop, it feels incredibly rushed". But I also would say that for a 2010 first party game, compared to something like God of War 3, yeah, GT5 looked way undercooked in comparison.
At the end of the day, Gran Turismo 5 I think have more reasons to be considered the worst in the series than the best (everything mentioned above, the paint chip system, the AI, the DLCs, etc.). It's not something to diminish coming from a studio remembered for its attention to detail.
I don't prefer it over Gran Turismo 2 or 3. And neither GT6, that while it had its own set of issues+some of GT5's ones, it was still a better product overall (so much that it's my 3rd fav in the series).
But even after all this...Gran Turismo 5 is a fun game by itself to some degree. It can be easily better than some modern racing games (and games in general). And at the end of the day, it's still a Gran Turismo.

Well, to be started: my first GT was the fourth one, and I HATED IT. But it was because I was just bad at this kind of games and I was like 12 o 13, and some months later I played GT6, which was the same awful experience but with much better graphics.
Years after, I gave the GT franchise a 2nd chance. 4th was pretty good, but the handling wasn't so good for me (even though I was much better than before in this game), 6th was better in the technical stuff, like physics and graphics, but the career mode wasn't that interesting than 4, but I really liked GT6, especially because of the selection of tracks and the new Premium Cars added (The Rocket car is my fav car of the game, and it's a shame it isn't in GT7)
And then there was GT5, which was awful compared to 4 and 6. User menu was really bad for being a videogame... Loading times were suffering...and the experience overall wasn't ideal to me. The only thing that was better than 6, was with the locations of Photo Travel.
I have a physical copy of GT5, but I was thinking of changing it.
Don't know if I should go for a copy of GT6, or a copy of Dead Space 2 (since I've got this 2 amazing games in digital)
Edit in 2024: I finally said goodbye to my physical copy of Gran Turismo 5. Even with all its flaws, and still being the second worst GT of the franchise (the worst is the first one), I still had fun with it, especially after playing the disaster that the new Forza Motorsport was.

6 had a lot more performance issues, and I’d argue 5 was the last GT game that had a classic campaign mode with open ways to progress. 6, while improving in many areas (load times, customization, suspension physics, dealerships, marginally better standard cars), it neutered AI and was the first to have a somewhat linear campaign. Arcade mode was way less customizable and AI physics didn’t match player physics on top of it.
I am a bit biased with GT5 being my first GT game, but 6 for me is far worse of a playthrough experience than 5 and I’d argue even Sport. I’d even argue 6 made a worse use of content in the campaign than 5, with a lot of tracks hardly used in the campaign, and severely lacking special event content. Where 5 often felt underused, 6 somehow felt like further shrinkage in some areas.
There’s absolutely problems with 5 (load times, irreversible customization, paint chip system, short special events and licensed Motorsport cameos, segregating Premium/Standard content), I still find it far more compelling to replay and explore the campaign from scratch over and over.

I don't know why people got mad with GT5 and 6 campaigns, because aside from some bullshit both have (as well as 2 and the PS2 games), they're the same game since 1997.
Arcade Mode is just an afterthought since Gran Turismo 4, because it's just a free play mode. Instead of having its own progression and challenges like the previous 3 games. Especially 3.
Sport Singleplayer was way worse, Sport doesn't even have a progression to begin with. It's just an event list with no real objective to get better.
Yes, it's fun by itself because it has the core Gran Turismo DNA gameplay, but it's a glorified Prologue in terms of what you can do with the content it offers. It really shows that it was a game with the online game in mind.

I prefer gt5 over the other titles. It has a bunch of singleplayer content (less than 4, but still a ton), way more so than 6 (which I quite dislike for that very reason, despite having way more cars and fixing a bunch of other things). It also looks nicer than 4 (well duh it runs on way newer hardware but still) the car models for premium cars are REALLY well made (they hold up to this day) and I didnt mind standard cars to be honest, just added a lot to the lineup and I get why they would do that
Sure the game has its issues but most (not all!) of this video feels like nitpicking to me.
not to say I wouldn't love 4 quite the opposite just 100%d it bout a year ago and loved every second.
just my opinion now let me have it in peace >:(
I'd love to share my views on all the points but meh cant bother :D

Well, GT5 was the reason I didn't buy PS3. I was playing a lot of GT3 and GT4 at relative's house in my childhood. I fell in love with FM2 and playing GT5 on friend's PS3 was such a downgrade...

    I'm kinda in the same boat. Not that I didn't play GT 1,2 and 4. but I got a ps3 in 2016.
Played 6 and enjoyed it but it did feel inferior to 4.
5 was praised much more than 6 so when I tried it I expected it to be better.
    It was not.

Playing other PlayStation 3 exclusives like LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted or even God of Fucking War 3 (that released on 2010 as well) just make Gran Turismo look like low quality games in comparison, when it used to be the opposite.
While Gran Turismo 6 was better quality wise than 5, I still think it was behind something like Killzone 3 or God of War Ascension in terms of quality

So I decided to play GT 6 once again. For this matter, I used RPCS3 on my PC. OMG, GT 6 crashes all the time, I'm very upset 'cause there are no games like GT series on PC (except Forza Motorsport 7, but this games feels different, and it freakin' crashes due to memory leak!)
After some time, I decided to check out GT 5. To my surprise, it runs almost flawlessly, 60 fps and improved graphics.
I can definitely say that GT 5 has a bit "arcadier" physics than GT 6, and grapchics seem to be a bit worse (colours, shadows and lighting + some standard car models look better in GT 6)
I am currently playing GT 5, and thinking to buy PS4 or PS5 just for the GT 7

    • @TheJakeMG
      @TheJakeMG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

GT6 is rough on RPCS3 - GT5 is much better on the emulator despite still crashing at times. GT7 could very well come to PC based on the NVIDIA leak from last year - I'd say hold out if you don't have a console, unless you can find a used PS4 for cheap.

@@TheJakeMG OMG! GT7 might come to PC? It would be awesome!
Alright then, I'll go to GT 5 for now, and will be looking forward to any news regarding GT 7 and RPCS3 development ('cause to me GT 6 is literally an automotive library, it seems there won't be such racing games with such a huge variety of cars in the near future)

GT5 aint no way the worst of it
It has: "Story" (the same "story" as 4)
    Better Scapes
Meow (yes this is an serious point, it has an cat)
Not an large quantity of over ridiculous cars that suck anyway (yes. VGT cars)
It has an track editor, nowadays is useless as hell but in the day JEESH that should have been amazing
and.... Fucking shit the music is wonderful. Yeah in every game is but in this Game is special
Also, it has DIFFERENT CLASSES IT HAS GOD DAMN NASCAR, BRING THAT DAYTONA USA NOW!
And how you can say this game is the worse with Sport existing? it was such an bad gran turismo (yeah, gran turismo. Not game, is good as an game) that when GT7 got revealed they had to put in the trailer Gran Turismo is back because Gran Turismo Sport is just an god damn spin-off.
I just think yall are overhating the game too much. Like, if it removed standard cars and damage. Everybody would possibly call it the second best game ever. Because it would look so much to GT4 that people would go boom.

    • @zacariascisneros6399
      @zacariascisneros6399 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not really. In fact, the vents play the same in every Gran Turismo since 1997
If there's something that GT5 (and 6) prioritize, was quantity lmao. And lot of those cars sucks as well.
about track editor: It "would have been", but it's quite lackluster. Not to mention it has zero meaning in a game like this
GT6 also has NASCAR, and 7 still has Daytona.
Because even if Singleplayer wise, Sport is worse than the 6 mailine games, it was clear what it focus was: Sport Mode. And it was a success until the end (despite its issues)
In reality, GT5 pushed too much too early that it showed the PS3 wasn't capable of that much stuff. People have fair reasons to criticizing GT5, because it has A LOT of problems
