Obviously PhD does not mean that you will be a good teacher. I have seen many NET qualified candidates who are in the teaching profession and are even better teachers than PhD holders.

Sir, you stand firmly with what you wanted to do in phd thesis. Actually this should be unluckily in majority of the Universities they force students to do their phd thesis based on professor not the students interest.
For a normal students getting admission for phd degree is not easy task, favourism (sellecting favourite students) selleting those student agreed on their favourite topic is a dark reality of phd degree.

JRF clear 1.5 years pass ho gaya, PhD nahi paya till now.
It's not just small universities which doesn't allow u to choose the topic which you like, well established government universities does the same thing ,i know as same happened with me my topic was "not so appropriate" for thesis so it got rejected, hence i ended up with the topic suggested by them (i was not in a situation where i can wait one more year to get admission somewhere else)

Tell them that it was not a permanent post. When the duration expired, (logically) you must have applied for permanent post in different colleges and universities. But upon not getting a permanent career, you switched to coaching industry.
