Siskel & Ebert Review The Films of...Martin Scorsese

- Here is another redux episode I had been meaning to do for a while now...
As previously mentioned in my Woody Allen redux episode: now that I've had a couple years practice with this series, I had every intention of going back to some of my older ones and making them more definitive. Especially when it's Scorsese we're talking about. Arguably the most important filmmaker during the entire Siskel & Ebert run. (The other candidate is the next one I'm doing finally!)
This version is way more definitive, adding over an hour more content than the original video, and a far better presentation
Still missing a couple reviews due to lack of availability, unfortunately
Primarily for educational purposes, but enjoy however you see fit!

I know most will disagree but I think Marty's best film is The King of Comedy. The reason why I think that is because it's such an engaging portrait of a fool, you laugh at him and yet the movie is tragic. I would argue that King of Comedy is a less of a comedy and more of a tragedy that you can't help but laugh at.
Favorite scene?
-when Rupert finds jerry's candies and offers Masha one politely.
I agree, also Casino.
I think it’s by far his most underrated film, and for any other director would likely be their best, but this is Scorsese we’re talking about.
It is a very funny movie, and yet I hold my breath too much to actually laugh.
Been waiting for this! 🙌
Thank you SO MUCH for this!!!
AMAZING. thanks!
Brilliant idea
I only saw The Age Of Innocence for the first time last year. It is such a fantastic movie, pleased to see that Ebert had such praise for it...Top 5 Scorcese for me.
That and Bringing Out The Dead are his best hidden gems.
Nice intro!
1:07:00 and the academy snubed him time and time again. What a passionate defense by Roger.
And they will again with Killers of the flower moon. I hope Lily at least gets best actress.
He smart to cast an indian. The only way to get oscar love these days....
KOTFM was quite not good. Only Got nods because it's Scorsese.
There was also no way Lily would beat Stone. Emma was other Level.
It’s really amazing to hear Taxi Driver talked about as over-the-top violence. The violence since that time has become greater and greater so that now you watch Taxi Driver as mild in comparison with, say, Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Like a drug addict, we’ve become so tolerant to our dosages of violence that something that made Siskel look away from the screen seems *almost* goofy now. As a 12 year old, I remember thinking the cartoon Ren & Stimpy was as gross-out as cartoons could get, not realizing South Park was on its way. Times change and we become more and more endured to the outrageous without even realizing it.
The Taxi Driver violence is bigger than all the violence a film of today could give. Because is the 70s violence, is rough, it feels gritty, and it's inside of that decade mood, so everything feels more...raw. Nothing compared with Tarantino violence, which is highly stylish
Casino is a Goodfellas retread, sure, but it’s still totally worthwhile. if he hadn’t made it and you heard after the fact that he had planned on a “goodfellas in vegas” semi sequel but abandoned it because it didn’t break new ground, it’s safe to say pretty much everybody would be disappointed
i like both movies almost equally favoring GF
6:45 that startled me!!
Look at that 'stache !!! The clothes too.
Didn't know he was such a swinger in the 70's! 😂
I am a Christian and I love Last Temptation of Christ
Same. It's my favorite Scorsese movie. :)
when i first saw the aviator i thought Leo was miscast, thinking he was too young for the part, but now think its oscar material for him. The only miscast was Kate Beck-she almost ruins the experience for me
No Kundun? I remember them reviewing it.
Unavailable at the moment
Siskel nailed The Last Temptation of Christ
Agreed. It's my favorite movie from Scorsese. :)
John Waters please!
Coming soon, finally!
bringing out the dead sucked. but otherwise great opinions 1:37:50 by ebert
