A note regarding the game being programmed in C++ and modding: Lots of games, maybe even most, with built in mod support use a different language for mods and/or the actual content of the game. Core underlying systems would be developed in C++, providing flexibility/portability and performance, while content and mods would be scripted with a different language. The only thing that makes Java Minecraft more moddible than C++ Minecraft is the modding tools being open rather than closed. If Hytale ends up with more modding support and a better performing language then it will be the best of both worlds. Someone might even be able to recreate the entirety of Minecraft and have it in a better preforming and better looking engine.
Not at all. Modding existed long before any true modding tools have. You likely don't rememeber when you had to manually replace classes in Minecraft's jar because there simply weren't any mod loaders.
@@francois1e4 I didn't, I just don't feel like repeating what I wrote in a different thread. In short, Hytale might be better performing and looking, but any language that is assembly compiled will never get anywhere close to the moddability of Java, ran in a virtual machine, allowing the code to be hot swapped.
The original announcement trailer was simply well made. It had that sense of adventure that most modern trailers miss the mark on. As long as the game continues to be developed, I’ll wait for patiently for the release.
When hype around this game exploded, I also got really hyped for it for all the cool things they plan to do. But then eventually, I somehow forgot about it for a while. Interesting how a hyped game just disappeared from the public eye for the most part. I'm glad it is still being developed tbh and the best thing to do was slow down the hype. Companies make the huge mistake of announcing a project WAY to early, giving WAY to much details, and promising WAY to much. Then it could get delayed and info and promises get cut from the final product mostly because of being rushed because they promised a specific release date and aren't ready. Fingers crossed it becomes the next big game to be released!

Hypixel TH-camr here! So glad to see you talking about this! Honestly its been hard to find news revolving around Hytale. Thanks for making this so easy to find!
Unless a tragic accident happens I will absolutely still be around for hytales release, I'm glad they're taking their time on it and not rushing the game or their developers. A lot of mainstream studios would be forcing their developers to crunch in as much time as possible and drop the game with a million bugs and half the content it was supposed to have, I'm glad this studio isn't perpetuating the awful working conditions this industry tends to have
Simon said that they didn't in any world expect the trailer to get millions of views, and now they have to meet people's expectations, that's why it's taking so long, and that's also why Hypixel studios sold themselves to Bing Chil- I mean Tensoulh- I mean Tencent.
Although many of the listed changes in development are with the goal of future-proofing the game, the decision to make all platforms run on the same version means that the game will be limited by the weakest platform in software, control and performance wise, which the original version was not preoccupied with, as such it's possible that the original design might differ too much to draw the same attention. People will find out that the trailers and short gameplay videos before 2022 show a completely different game than what the game will release as.
Quality is always more important that publicity. Assuming the game still has strong direction, it's only a positive that they're taking their time with it.

I'm semi excited for hytale as well. Just seeing how many different sorts of creatures there are in it, and hoping it makes a good impact when it hits Beta!
Its frustrating that its being delayed for an untols amount of years, because it looks like it will be a super fun game. I'm grateful they're not delivering a half finished product though. I was dissapointed enough when No Man's Sky did that to us. I'm looking forward to an official release date, though, even if its early access!!
Because Hytale takes so much longer then expected, i do really hope the physics and overall engine will be a substatial upgrade over Minecraft. Maybe something like waving water, so ships can sail the seas, or enemy ragdoll physics, and if that is not the case with the main game, i hope modding allows us to do such things. But because it is also coming to platforms like mobile now, i'm not so sure that will be so likely anymore.
I think this game would really benefit from a public beta test. It would make it a lot easier for the devs to see what people like and don't like. Even if they don't, I'm sure this game will turn out as a masterpiece.
I had heard they are planning to do a closed beta but I'd put a beta test at late 2023 at the very soonest, more likely 2024, that actual game itself probably won't release til 2025 or 2026 but I have plenty of things to do in the meantime while I wait lol
If they recently rebuilt the entire engine theres no real version of the game that *can be* playtested, really But yeah further down the line, beta tests would be great
Hollow Knight took 3 years being developed. Omori was being developed for 6 and a half years. Hytale was announced in 2018 and started being developed at 2015 which is basically 8 years now. Still Duke Nukem Forever stood at the top for being the longest game being develop for 14 years. Maybe Hytale is planning to beat that record lol.
People keep forgetting that riot also acquired Radiant Entertainment, but rather than giving them "more money to play with" they canned development of a game with unfulfilled kickstarter promises, so let's stop up-selling this like it can only be a good thing. I'm also concerned with the question of what evolution is taking place? While beta access for players or early access would help with the hype problem, I've seen a lot of early access games evolve to a point where it's unrecognizable, and not in the good way, only to cite early access disclaimer. I've been burned too many times to trust acquired companies and assume that they care what fans want.
Still wanna play this, but I feel maybe they could release a small demo for feedback purposes, that is they can even do that. Dunno how much is coded. We have been waiting a long time, so let's hope the release is just as cool as the footage in this video.
The issue with hytale is that it needs to constantly be in development to make everything that it's doing possible. It has to run on such a unique engine and on top of that incorporate so many functions and inputs without failing, it also has to keep up with Minecraft's current content. It's very likely we won't be seeing hytale for maybe three more years.
in all honesty, the longer it takes the more excited i get. i understand people wanting it now, game looks hella cool. but with how much they have promised and shown, they are actually taking the time to fulfill those promises take notes bethesda
@@alexsiemers7898 it CAN lead to quality if the scope of the project doesnt also increase at the same rate. most times they just keep adding more till there is too much to get done on time leading to a bunch of half finished things
The amount of debris on the ground in the railer footage is stressful, cause in this sort of game, whether or not that debris has collision is rarely communicated well, and is often inconsistent. (there are some games, that communicates it very well, but too many don't.)
Hytale is too large of a project to complete in one go, they need to release soon and learn how to iterate in order to complete their goals. You can't just go into a closet for a decade and emerge with a game with the scope of something like Minecraft. The early access model is almost a requirement for this type of game.
Yeah, as much as I want this game to be great I see nothing but a flop if they don't do early access testing. This style of sandbox survival game is something that has to be fine tuned with thousands of play testers ti find bugs that dev testers might never dream of. Being able to field opinions on the game as its made is just too important for games where you have such high creative freedom

I dont care when this game releases, but when it does, I will be there. It doesn't matter to me if it takes two years or five, a polished game is what I wish for, not a thrown out the door husk of a game *cough cough Sonic forces*. I wish the Hytale Team and you guys a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
I think this game has a high chance to succeed (eventually) when compared to other games that wanted to be very similar to it for one main reason, funding. The issue is that with many "multiplayer-centered huge open world exploration" games is that they need to release so that the developer(s) can continue to work on it with the money the game generates, but the hypixel team already has built a consistent source of revenue both from the very popular hypixel server and of course riot games. This ensures that hypixel can continue to spend as much time as they need to finish the game without worrying about a release date because, ultimately, this is a true passion project that does not need to start generating money as soon as possible
I honestly don't mind. I really hope they take a long time to release the game because so many games that come out these days are a broken, disappointing mess. It may be upsetting to wait but it's for the best because a first impression makes or breaks a game and I hope they leave a first impression worth the wait that's almost bug free.
I recently discovered this little gem and I got instantly hooked. Also James, will we see some couch gang content anytime soon? Otherwise have a great day !
They want it to be a legitimate competitor instead of a niche game. Which I say more power to them. Before the extra funding, I think it was leaning more into the niche realm that would have initial popularity
mad respect for the hytale team you don't see that much passion from other games and developers in our current gaming era it's mostly just rushed or lacking some things but the addition of hytale would change the gaming industry and i hope it gives inspiration to more aspiring developers to put more effort and passion into their games also game devs need to be treated right and recognized by companies all that skill wasted because of low payment for their work
I think that hytale looks absolutely beautiful, and I would buy a hytale beta as soon as I could if they released it, I don't care how unfinished it is as long as I can have a lot of play time, it looks perfect for me.
Last week I was in a sophmore class for highschool and saw a friend I haven't talked to in years He was talking about Minecraft and other games and I remembered Hypixel and Hytale I told him about it and he literally had no idea what that was Funnily enough I showed him the video and he was hyped about it a long time ago
The one nice thing about Hytale is that if/when it release it's pretty much guaranteed to be an instant success. So long as they ensure to have a decent game at launch, something a lot of triple a games these days seem to not care about, all the attention from all the youtubers I know will cover it will definitely make the game popular. This is especially so if they aim the release of the game in-between Minecraft updates, at that spot where a lot of youtubers are looking for next content or series to help fill the gap and before they announce details about the next update.
2 seconds ago. . .Interesting. I forgot Hytale even existed. I remember being so incredibly excited for it when I saw the trailer but I haven’t thought about it in at least a year. I’m still hyped for it but not as hyped as I used to be.
Considering how hard it is for mojang to update minecraft these days, seeing a game like this which seems to have a way bigger scale is amazing. It's not surprising for them to take forever in actually making it but I do hope they still keep developing it and keep us posted.
this is one of those games you wait for and at the same time just can't wait tell it's released . if you haven't been following this and you play Minecraft you must have been lost or under a rock for the last 4 years it's going to be so damn good when it finally does gets released .
It takes a ton of effort to make a game that is this hyped live up to it. Im hopeful, but obviously apprehensive. Especially since mojang has been on the ball as of late.
Idm them taking their time to release, I'll wait however long it takes to release in a great state! Though I would really like more snippets and blogposts in the meantime. Even if they're about little unimportant things.
Riot likes their dramatic flare. The last thing that had "a potential release date" that was pushed later but turned into a award winning masterpiece was arcane. I'm sure hytale will not disappoint when it does release.
I think Valorant was kind of a wake up call that trying to force something just breeds a lot of animosity that you could have fairly easily been avoided. They just need to trust their own reputation at this point. Cause after that big Valorant push they essentially did a full stop and just trusted that the Riot name was enough to sustain the game which it was
Honestly, the decision to change language so late into development worries me. They already did a lot but had a lot more to go even before they decided to start over. Unless they can consistently get money, I'm unfortunately positive that the game is going to development hell. I really hope that isn't the case, but man, they've got such a road ahead.
@@comachine I mean, you're right, but it still needs to be rewritten, and doing so in a lower-level language, while allowing more freedom, isn't exactly a 1:1 conversion, is it? I don't know, I'm still only in uni for CS, but it isn't like they can just run some command to change language and be done with it. We don't know exactly how much has to be redone, or if there will be any quirks when making the new engine.
Well, they've already been rewriting for over 7 months if we assume they were already going at before releasing the summer blog post. Rewriting doesn't take too long. If anything, it's simply tedious. They have to basically translate every line of code into C++. It's a little faster than creating new content, that's for sure.
I am all for taking time with development. This said I feel like increased community interaction is important. At the very least there are somewhat regular seasonal posts to let us know there’s a heart beat. I know this point of development doesn’t really allow new exciting updates. I get the impression that they’re sort of stock piling updates amid the near radio silence. The next update will be announcing a release date most likely.
I’m starting to get Minecraft Dungeons and more classic RPG vibes from Hytale. That mixed with a later release date may invite a slightly older player base than what Minecraft currently has, and I’m here for it.
Honestly? I really disagree with this approach. I think Notch got it right when he released constant unfinished versions of the game; indev, infdev, all before even reaching alpha. Games like these benefit a lot from community feedback and outsourced playtesting, and I think that's a big part of why Minecraft and Terraria have such dedicated and long lasting communities. Players were a part of development; they could be just as excited as the devs when these games finally got "release" versions. If you develop to a complete game, and have a one-off release, it's going to be much easier for players to pick it up, play for a while, and move on without getting the same attachment that we still see with other sandbox games. There's a level of pride that comes with being a Minecraft or Terraria player, and linking that to what version you started playing on; and that pride doesn't exist for AAA games. And I think the difference is the existence of versions and of a community, pre-release. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
No matter the amount of time it takes, lets hope the end product has the great things it promises. If it does, then it's going to be a great game with infinite possibilities- something along the lines of Skyrim, Fallout 4, Garry's Mod .. Just endless modding potential with even filmmaking possibilities, even multiplayer roleplay, who knows! The ideas they think of really give me hope. Performance, fantasy, modding, cross-platform.. Let's hope patience pays back
to be honest they wont die as a game because of the fact that people will spread the good tidings of it being released and it will regrow as a game and have a larger community.
From someone who still played a lot of hypixel and saw the hytale trailer the day it came out, I’m still really excited, even if it takes forever. Terraria is my favorite game of all kind, and Minecraft is a close second, and hytale just feels like a combination of the two and I’m all for it
OMG I already forget about this game, but then i saw ur vid on my youtube home screen and the memory ofthis game just came back. But the game is still promising and I think the team do the best things for long term.
I really hope, that Hytale succeeds, but I have not seen anything like commandblocks, redstone or even slimestone yet. For me to want to play the game without at least one of those would require some seriously good and original game design elements. (Not saying that the game is unoriginal just because it started in Minecraft.)
I hope we get an early alpha or something that is gonna be give to youtubers to hype it back up it of course review it.....At this point when it comes to games such as Hytale a sandbox survival just like Minecraft you can NEVER stop adding new stuff. I think they need to finally show the early alpha and then after some time like 6 months move it into beta which we as regular players can gain access to further playtest. Then if that shows successful finally release it.
dev's delaying a game release in hopes for a "better" game is something I can never be angry for. In today standards wherein seeing a game release, buggy af and barely playable and just fixing it along the way is one of the worst practices I have seen yet, and yes, as we all know the reason why devs to this is cuz the higher ups forced them to, releasing a game when it is about to reach peak hype to maximize profits is such a sad sad thing. Im just hope and glad that currently riot isnt doing something like that to them and letting the team and the game take its natural and unforced course :D
So much potential! Riot has also shown to be very successful in projects besides LoL, think Arcane/Valorant, and while that doesn't necessarily mean they are super involved it does give me more hope
aaaaa! i was excited for the reveal of this game. But the hype did die down relatively quickly. But it doesnt mean i lost interest. It's moreso that by losing hype, i would forget about the game, thus i would not get impatient. And before you know it, the game is out or close to be done after years of waiting and forgetting!
I think its okay that its a little forgotten because honestly if they do well enough they will get all that hype back. Plus no pressure for them and only passion :)
Don't mean to nitpick, but at the start you say "cusp of 2022", I think you meant cusp of 2023. Great video otherwise, I'm interested to see where development for this goes
Ok, this maybe one of those things where, if they have a stable game with a lot of content and very few bugs, and what they want as part of it, is mostly content being added too it, they may want to actually release the game and keep adding the features they planned for after the fact.
After some of the things I've heard, I can't really be hyped for the game anymore but that's probably a good thing anyway. If the game comes out and it's awesome, I'll get to be pleasantly surprised and if it isn't, I won't feel bad about it.
I used to be super excited for this game... but, much like Star Citizen, it has taken entirely too long to put anything out, and my interest has turned into antipathy. It didn't help that they allowed themselves to become owned by Tencent.
My answer to this question will always be: not much really, at least not yet, they're just taking their time. I'm personally still hyped for the game, always have been. Even if it takes as long to release as something like Cyberpunk 2077.

As an up and coming game development student, I am still massively excited for this and would love to apply to hypixel studios in the future :)
Hope you got applied there
Same here. As a student of game design, iteration and a large timeframe are the two biggest boons to any game. It's also becoming increasingly apparent to me exactly how important crossplay and strong parity between platforms is from both consumer AND directorial standpoints. This project is getting me excited for the future of game development as a whole and, coming from someone who is following every aspect of Hytale very closely, this is a great analysis of the current state of things.
Good thinking! Apply for a job there to play the early access pre-release 😂
In wich places is that an actual career? That is not even a thing in my country, so I study Informatics Engineering, but even if I love programming a lot I feel like I'm missing a lot and lacking other skills for what I really want to do. And I also feel I'm lossing my creativity and imagination.

The US & Canada as well as a large spattering of Central & Northern European countries like Switzerland, Finland, & of course the UK itself. It's kind of a niche industry, but big enough to have a college or two dedicated to game theory & development. Even without a specialized college you could get the training you need at most other universities also.
A lot of mainstream studios would be forcing their developers to crunch in as much time as possible and drop the game with a million bugs and half the content it was supposed to have, I'm glad this studio isn't perpetuating the awful working conditions this industry tends to have
I hope I didn't jinx myself with that first sentence lol
Assuming the game still has strong direction, it's only a positive that they're taking their time with it.
hytale is the equivalent for our "Brazilian GTA" every once a while someone announces a "new and better minecraft, minecraft 2.0, etc etc" in Brazil every single game dev group someone announces "I'll make a new and improved GTA but in Brazil" it's almost a meme for the game dev community

I'm semi excited for hytale as well. Just seeing how many different sorts of creatures there are in it, and hoping it makes a good impact when it hits Beta!
With the sheer amount of potential Hytale has shown, I would gladly wait for even so long as a decade if it'd mean it would release in its best state
Its frustrating that its being delayed for an untols amount of years, because it looks like it will be a super fun game. I'm grateful they're not delivering a half finished product though. I was dissapointed enough when No Man's Sky did that to us.
I'm looking forward to an official release date, though, even if its early access!!
I've been waiting 3,000 years for this game...I hope it makes it to release. If not, I'm going to be so sad.
Even if they don't, I'm sure this game will turn out as a masterpiece.
i agree, but its probably too far from that. maybe next year
@@austeyen5628 So in 5 weeks? Good idea!
It would be more of an "Alpha" Test from the sounds of it
I had heard they are planning to do a closed beta but I'd put a beta test at late 2023 at the very soonest, more likely 2024, that actual game itself probably won't release til 2025 or 2026 but I have plenty of things to do in the meantime while I wait lol
If they recently rebuilt the entire engine theres no real version of the game that *can be* playtested, really
But yeah further down the line, beta tests would be great
Hollow Knight took 3 years being developed.
A game dev that actually cares about there game and fans

I feel this could be the game that truly unites terraria and Minecraft fans alike into one community.
3D aspect of minecraft but combat oriented like terraria.
Hytale just got forgotten, the game is probably not going to reach its full potential. But still have hope that it’s good.
in all honesty, the longer it takes the more excited i get.
i understand people wanting it now, game looks hella cool. but with how much they have promised and shown, they are actually taking the time to fulfill those promises

Hahaha "Take notes Bethesda" I love that.
After Cyberpunk I thought people ditched the “time _will_ lead to quality” mindset
@@alexsiemers7898 it CAN lead to quality if the scope of the project doesnt also increase at the same rate. most times they just keep adding more till there is too much to get done on time leading to a bunch of half finished things
@@alexsiemers7898 Cyberpunk was rushed near the end, so if anything it at least proved that less time means less quality
Thank you Chippy. I am truly thankful for this video.
Oh god, I just realized hytale is another silksong. Great vid btw
Never losing hype for this, its like Terraria and Minecraft put together!
I love hytale I’m so glad you’re bringing light to it again it’s been forgotten for so long and I’m so happy that you’re making another video on it
Meanwhile I've been enjoying vintage story. Uses the same engine that hytale originally announced to be using! And it's really good!!! I really hope you check it out! I feel like you'd enjoy it!

I honestly forgot about this game
Before the extra funding, I think it was leaning more into the niche realm that would have initial popularity
mad respect for the hytale team you don't see that much passion from other games and developers in our current gaming era it's mostly just rushed or lacking some things but the addition of hytale would change the gaming industry and i hope it gives inspiration to more aspiring developers to put more effort and passion into their games also game devs need to be treated right and recognized by companies all that skill wasted because of low payment for their work
i hope this is like hallow knight where a small team takes many years and effort and when it launches, it is insanely popular and polished
The team is already consists of 100+ devs, small is not the word I'd use tbh.
I think that hytale looks absolutely beautiful, and I would buy a hytale beta as soon as I could if they released it, I don't care how unfinished it is as long as I can have a lot of play time, it looks perfect for me.
It's almost like these things take time to develop. 🤯
Thanks for reminding me. Can’t wait to play it in 2 years
Wow I forgot about Hytale. When I heard about it in 2018 I was really excited. Im excited for the future of Hytale.
Last week I was in a sophmore class for highschool and saw a friend I haven't talked to in years
He was talking about Minecraft and other games and I remembered Hypixel and Hytale I told him about it and he literally had no idea what that was
Funnily enough I showed him the video and he was hyped about it a long time ago
I would rather a finished game at launch than the current trend of releasing half done games just to get it out.
I'm suprised you're the one making a video about this.
I forgot about this game because I haven't heard anything in years, but the WIP footage looks really good.
Personally I don't know what it's like to be a wallet. But I'm glad that ridge will redefine it for me
this is one of those games you wait for and at the same time just can't wait tell it's released . if you haven't been following this and you play Minecraft you must have been lost or under a rock for the last 4 years it's going to be so damn good when it finally does gets released .
Bro, it:s been years and I'm still waiting for this to release
Riot likes their dramatic flare. The last thing that had "a potential release date" that was pushed later but turned into a award winning masterpiece was arcane. I'm sure hytale will not disappoint when it does release.
I think Valorant was kind of a wake up call that trying to force something just breeds a lot of animosity that you could have fairly easily been avoided. They just need to trust their own reputation at this point. Cause after that big Valorant push they essentially did a full stop and just trusted that the Riot name was enough to sustain the game which it was
I keep forgetting that Rito bought Hypixal
Honestly, the decision to change language so late into development worries me. They already did a lot but had a lot more to go even before they decided to start over. Unless they can consistently get money, I'm unfortunately positive that the game is going to development hell.
I really hope that isn't the case, but man, they've got such a road ahead.
Money is not a problem, as they are being backed by riot games
Writing code is not as long as thinking about the meaning of this code, its functionality, gameplay component, designing the game itself, and so on.
@@arcanaunbound9322 Yes, but still C# and Java are similar to C++, and not only in syntax, but also in the technical part as a whole.
Well, they've already been rewriting for over 7 months if we assume they were already going at before releasing the summer blog post. Rewriting doesn't take too long. If anything, it's simply tedious. They have to basically translate every line of code into C++. It's a little faster than creating new content, that's for sure.
Vintage Story would be worth checking out!
i really like vintage story but the learning curve is quite steep, especially when wild animals like wolves can kill you in less than 3 hits
Vintage Story is amazing
I am all for taking time with development. This said I feel like increased community interaction is important. At the very least there are somewhat regular seasonal posts to let us know there’s a heart beat. I know this point of development doesn’t really allow new exciting updates. I get the impression that they’re sort of stock piling updates amid the near radio silence. The next update will be announcing a release date most likely.
it’s already been 4 years since the original trailer?!?It feels like it has only been one year
Honestly if they did like an early access release they could probably get some hype going again
I’m starting to get Minecraft Dungeons and more classic RPG vibes from Hytale. That mixed with a later release date may invite a slightly older player base than what Minecraft currently has, and I’m here for it.
I havent been paying attention to anything hytale related, but the biggest thing for me getting into it is some sort of power system like redstone.
4:37 You can place half slabs on vertically! Instant Buy! Game of the Year! 10/10!
If it does, then it's going to be a great game with infinite possibilities-
something along the lines of Skyrim, Fallout 4, Garry's Mod ..
Just endless modding potential with even filmmaking possibilities, even multiplayer roleplay, who knows! The ideas they think of really give me hope. Performance, fantasy, modding, cross-platform.. Let's hope patience pays back
Cant wait for the chippy and necrit collab reviewing hytale
That would be a wild collab
I'm still hyped for it, but i'm also a believer in taking the time to polish and refine a game before releasing it.
to be honest they wont die as a game because of the fact that people will spread the good tidings of it being released and it will regrow as a game and have a larger community.
Just hoping it doesn't turn into cubeworld 2.0
Then if that shows successful finally release it.
thanks for posting this i was wondering about where they're at :)
dev's delaying a game release in hopes for a "better" game is something I can never be angry for.
It's amazing that they're taking their time on this project instead of releasing half a game like *some* *other* *companies* ...
I’ll wait for however long I just pray they don’t pull a cubeworld
