I am one of Athelston Eldest' Grandaughters and its lovely too see all the lovely comments on here about my Gramps. He was and still is a Legend. And I know he'll be smiling down on us all, knowing he is still making people laugh out loud.
i remember seeing him on buzzcocks when i was a kid at school, i honestly never laughed so much everytime he came on, to the point that all these years later i've had to google search him and rewatch all these clips!
Well let me say that your Grandfather is still missed to this day. When I was growing up watching this, I always hoped your grandad was in the id parade! Hope you are well. Take care x
An absolute ledgend. It's a pity they never got him to guest host. Made the show anytime he was on. My favourite is a sketch he done with Phil bill and huey Morgan 🤣🤣
It is a credit to him taht despite everything they throw at him, he can still keep a straight face dead-pan expression. That guy had self-control. *Salute
@joepickard After a memorable solo debut, all his further appearances were alongside Athelston anyway. Though the same actor did occasionally appear in the line-up in other costumes.
Seán (RIP) says “Go raibh míle maith agat, go dtí an leithreas, más é do thoil é?” 😄 Translates to: “Thank you very much, to the toilet, please [more exactly- if it is your will]” I think he meant to say “An bhfuil cead agam dul go dtí ...etc” , which is something every primary school child learns 😄
There's really no point - he just rattled off a bunch of words Irish children would learn for school, like 'may I please go to the bathroom'. It doesn't actually make any sense :)

diane croft aww he was such a legend. Had me in stitches every time he was on.
Instead, I like to think he's just staring blankly instead of smiling.

Bet Athelstone Williams was a real joker and a really nice guy when he wasn't on camera if only because the cast of NMTB so obviously adored him.
Athelstone had the gift of comic timing despite not saying anything. Legendary! This humour is missed on buzzcocks nowadays.

Athelston Williams ... legend will be missed
R.I.P legend to many, you brought joy to the many, a feat never more worthy of heaven
Athleston would've made an excellent poker player
Thoughts on Katie Melua here? 😍😍😍
Loved it. Thanks for posting.
Mark was temporary, Athelston is eternal
he was a beautiful human being. bet he was a great grandpa. RIP Athelston;)
i'd like to see a tribute for The Pirate too!
He's underrated

Good old Athelstone he was a great sport
The only thing that would've made it better would've been if they'd had the pirate in the Nolans line-up.
The Ranking Roger segment is always a favourite NMTB moment for me.
For someone so obsessed with Sixties culture and music, Mark Lamarr was pretty damn good with Public Enemy!

Yes. I suspect it was deliberate as he knew the English people wouldn't know and Linda would get a laugh.
Or number five, THE FACE IN MY NIGHTMARES.
I actually choked laughing.
Katie Melua 😍😍😍💞❤️💖
athleston rox!! comedy genius!
if he had been still alive he would have replaced simon amstell
7:41, poor katie...just plain simple. as the rumours profess....
he says "can I please go to the bathroom" its sort of an in joke to anyone who knows about the irish language and the irish education system.
Shit, I commented before watching the video. I retract my statement.

Yeah, that’s the joke mate
Bit racist there, chap
