As kids, my siblings and I were sort of forced to watch these novelas by our grandmothers/parents, due to only having one tv set, and we would always find them amusing and funny, always pointing out the overly dramatic parts. 😂 The Mexican audience is well aware of the exaggerated and ridiculous scenes. 🇲🇽

Hahaha okay it's good that you all knew the scenes were exaggerated and ridiculous too! So funny! :D

The Latin community is well-aware of the over-exaggerated drama scenes. The producers of telenovelas have the main goal of entertaining the audience as much as they possibly can! I think it's one of the reasons I watched some of them.

I watched Marimar and Maria la del Barrio as a teen ager in the 90's and it was definitely like watching comedy. Not only the style but the plots. We laughed a lot.

The "fucking cripple" scene is very very famous also in Brazil. We have many political parodies with this iconic and unforgettable scene

Hi Luke, your appreciation of these telenovelas is quite right. We all know they're over the edge and beyond ridiculous and that's why they're funny and somewhat entertaining! Lol hugs man.

Mexican/Latino Telenovelas are very different to British soaps like Corrie, Eastenders or Hollyoaks, the storylines in latino telenovelas are very heavy and dramatic, I know its strange for the brits because they get used to British soaps that doesn’t have any background music, and latino telenovelas only last up to 6 or 9 months unlike the british soaps that airing for decades, I know Mexican telenovelas are funny but its also a big hit worldwide dubbed in various languages just like in the Philippines Mexican telenovelas dominates the Philippine television back in the 90’s and early 2000’s

    • @thisismexico

Hahaha yes they are so different! As you say, the British soaps have no background music, and yes they are dramatic, but not as dramatic as Mexican telenovelas :D I think it's great that everyone knows about Mexican telenovelas!

😂 the funny thing is that there also things like this one game show that airs on Telemundo called Los 50 (a game showgives me a lot of squidgame vibes because of the suits and masks that the host wears and the workers that help rum the game wear) and something called Exlaton (another game show that mainly focuses on two teams racing each other and completing obstacle courses) where dramatic music is used and its just makes something like ads or some of the simple games they play the most intense or dramatic thing to watch, its just funny 😂

Just a note, Mexico is part of north america geographically, eventhough we are part of LATIN AMERICA because of our language, not because of location, mexico is not part of central nor south america

My Grandma was an avid watcher of this series when it was on TV here in Poland
And some of the characters I actually liked (Leopardo and Bianca). Estefania was just a knockoff Soraya though.

Rubi is a great telenovela. One of the rare ones where the villain is also the protagonist. Telenovelas have gone downhill after the 2000s sadly but there are some gems . The 2020s however have not been kind. Unpopular opinion but the Maria trilogy sucks
