i would interpret as naruto going back in time taking the place of hashirama and him defeating madara then brought back in 4th war but because hes in hashiramas body no one recognizes him and so they have to explain it to them that it was actually naruto.
P.S. my reason for past naruto not existing is that he went back in time cause they originally lost the war in an AU timeline so he changed that.
