I really enjoyed watching the showcase of your goat farm. In my humble opinion, this is the best set up that I ever seen. What I got out of this video is the caring attitude you have towards your animals. Knowing Boer goats are raised for meat, are you exporting the meat? I ask, because aside from a few Americans like myself actually like eating goat meat. I have never seen goat meat offered by grocery stores. Too bad, people are missing out on one of the most nutritious meat available.
Always a pleasure watching yalls videos. I'm from Texas and we have a small 5 acre ranch in west texas. The Kelly Ranch. And we are working on our boer goat herd. Its a small commercial herd. But we love it. And enjoy watching and learning from yall.
Do you think Boer are harder to raise than Kiko? I'm in line to get a couple Kiko doelings, but I love how the Boer look. But, Kiko breeders say Boer die easy, and Kiko are much more healthy.
I have started getting into boer goats 8 months ago . I have 14 right now , but having trouble finding some one to help me in the showing part and grooming for show . Where to find shows that I can show in . I was told I needed to get a Facebook page because that’s where the shows are listed . I can’t find any or they already passed . I live up in northeastern Michigan (Harrisville) there are no quality boer goat farms here on this side of the state . I am wanting to breed for quality. I do have a ABGA 90% boer buck right now to start with but I am wanting a 100% full blood buck. Traditional red/white . I want to stay traditional color also if any color only black head and shoulder / white body . I do watch your videos . But it would be nice to actually talk to a person that knows what there doing . If your unable to if you could direct me we’re I could go . Thank you
We live in NW Arkansas, we have Tractor Supply, Atwoods, a farm co-op that carries ADM, and Mooreman's/Showtech feeds. Out of those, which would you recommend on a good quality goat feed?
Ryan Crawford have never fed Mooremans, but we never had much luck with ADM. When we tried it our animals didn’t eat it well, had a hard time putting on/keeping weight on, and always acted like they were starving. However some breeders love it. I’d suggest trying a little of each brand and seeing how your animals like one vs the other.

Right now we're feeding a mix of beet pulp, sweet feed, Mooreman's amino goat, alfalfa pellets, and purina goat grower. That combination has really helped out this year, but we just hate having to buy multiples and combining.
That’s a lot of mixing. Do you have a local feed co-op or elevator near you that might be able to mix up something for you? We did that for years and loved it, but when they stopped carrying one of the main ingredients we had to look for something else and after trying a few different brands settled with Lowe’s because we don’t need to mix anything with it to get the results we want.

We feel that supplements aside from Dyne are a big waste of money. It’s much more efficient to invest in good genetics and either find or create a good, quality complete feed. Any feed company that makes and promotes supplements to go along with what feed they make is simply money grabbing. You do not need supplements to have nice looking animals that will compete. Ours are fed a 16% pellet and that’s it.
You have very nice arrangements for the goats. It is nice they have buildings to enter for shelter. There is a goat farm in southern Arizona and the goats do not have buildings for shelter. The people use pallets for sides and some plywood for roofs. The areas are open to extreme heat and snow. Their arrangements are so pathetic. The teenager boy used his foot and pushed a doe in her rectum into a fenced area with the camera rolling. She recently gave birth to her kids. Just image the treatment the goats receive without the camera present for video taping. Thank you for sharing.
What do you do with all of your manure? This is one thing I was hoping you would talk about. Currently we just spread it on our hay fields. But the house i am looking at is not close so I will need to figure that out.
RPC6407 that’s a really good question and something that we should have touched base on. Manure is cleaned out of pens daily and piled up, it’s pushed up into a big pile weekly using the skid steer in a bunker. The bunker can hold up to 6-7 months of manure/waste. Twice a year, in the spring and fall, it’s hauled across town to a large crop farm that spreads it on their fields. They allow us use of one of their tandem grain trucks to haul it. The nice thing about piling it up, is it creates heat, enough heat to kill any parasites and deter flys from laying eggs. We keep back a small portion in the spring to spread on the garden and flower beds.
Thank you for answering that is one thing I have really been thinking about. Land down here is so expensive where I want to live and so I know i won't be able to afford as much ground as I would like so I was really thinking hard on what I could do.
We are on a small property as well. We have a few choices. Usually, we burn it off along with the waste hay. We also have the option of sending it all to a local composting business. If you have one around check in with the places that sell topsoil,mulch etc in bulk. They can be a huge help as well.
I'm thinking about raising Boer goat as well and I have about 3 acres for them to roam. How many do you think I should start out. I do have grass and alfalfa besides the 3 acres to supplement them for food as well.
I would start off small because you will have a learning curve and you don’t want to get 30-40 and lose 1/2 of them because of a problem. I would get 5-10 and go from there and build up to se what fits your land.

We are trying to get into sell meat through out the country but a lot of work goes into it.

It all depends on where you get them if they come from a big show farm they are way harder then a small farm that are more hands off.

How many breeding does and bucks do you keep as well as number of replacements?
We have about 30 breeding age does right now and we will have 3 buck we have 10 replacements for next year but we are heavy on replacements this year.
Love your farm. Cool video. Would you say a 4 ft no-climb fence is sufficient for boer goats?
