- Fishing out of Pentwater Michigan. Today we were prefishing for the charters that I had for that Memorial Day weekend. Feel free to comment any feedback or questions. #salmonfishing #lakemichiganfishing #kingsalmon #memorialday #salmonfishing #salmon
Very healthy looking fish; some others I’ve seen this Spring are skinny, with big heads (not a good sign). A few years back, the first indication that the forage base was diminished was the gaunt look of the fish. Yours look great; I wonder why some look poorly from other ports.
I agree. I think the lake is in a weird spot right now where we had a surplus of bait, but now we have a surplus of salmon in the system. I think some of the groups of fish are following around the bait and eating good but some of the groups of fish are not able to find pods of bait before the other Salmon eat them all. I’ve had some trips were all of the fish are 8 to 12 pounds and look really skinny and then other trips where all of the fish are 15 to 25 pounds and look like footballs. I think the lake is in a good spot overall but I think the surplus of Gamefish is depleting the bait fish population quickly and it is starting to show. seems to be the typical ebb and flow of the lake every 5 to 7 years.
Love the Lake Michigan Spring King Salmon Action! Great video
Nothing like it. Thank you!
Awesome fishing !
Thanks!

When the bite is “one here, one there”, we back off on the trolling speed with a fish hooked up. This helps get that fish to the net sooner and reduces the stress on the hookup during the fight = higher batting average.
Good idea!
Thats my closest port, you fish there alot? Looked like a great day!🎣
Yeah I fish there every May. It’s a great port and not a lot of traffic
What kind of water were you looking for?
Are the fish still there? It’s dead in Ludington.
@@colinselvig9635 warmer water. In May it is best to find the water that has a little bit of a green tint to it. This water is usually runoff from the surrounding rivers. The warmer water holds more baitfish which results in there being more salmon and trout.
@@icecmu na. It is dead on the Michigan side just like most years in June. I have some friends that are doing decent way offshore out of Pentwater but the fish are scattered.
Nice fish, when say you were fishing the dunes, is the north or south of the harbor? Also what pound leader do you use on your dipsey divers when you are running spoons?
The dunes are south of the harbor. It’s the silver lake sand dunes. I run 30lb leaders on my dipseys. All of my leaders are either 25 or 30 lb.
