I used to have a really bad phobia of everything sharp, even those dull kiddie scizzors.
A year ago someone recommended TMA to me and said "it has an episode for every fear you can imagine" so I watched, hoping to be truly frightend.
About 30 episodes in I bought a pig cork board to keep tracj of all the connections I was making, and pinned them down and attached differently colored wires.
Because I was too lazy, to get it on and off the wall again and again when I'd sit down to re-watch everything for every 10 episode mark I reached. I decided to put the board next to my bed on the floor, with the backside pointed towards me. a wall of sharp, pointy needles stared at me every night, yet for some reason, for the first time. I was not afraid of them.
Eventually I got comfortable with scizors enough to cut the paper I used for the board instead of just tearing them. I went to get a blood test all on my own. I was still scared, but a normal kind of scared. One without blind panic. And eventually, I wasn't afraid anymore.
I watched the rest of TMA thinking "huh, so when the needle episode comes, I guess I won't be terrified now? Will the whole reason I started watching end up being for nothing" and the needle episode never really came.
Skip forwards a couple months and we're here. The needle episode is finally here. I wasn't afraid anymore. and while originally I thought I'd be sad, not being scared of the thing I was so hyped to be scared by. Now I'm just proud, and happy.
To think something that once would have been the most terrifying thing there is. Has been overcome so far. That I am not scared anymore of my biggest fear.

Ok so this has nothing to do with the episode but I need to tell you that TMA legit made me quit energy drinks. I used to drink so much of them that my sleep schedule was completely messed up, and like two weeks ago, after I finished binge listening TMA, I woke up at 8 PM, coincidentally the street lamps in front of my house were broken, so I thought The Dark got me and I was absolutely terrified and frozen for a couple minutes, before I fully woke up and remembered it's fictional. But it was such a powerful experience that it motivated me to fix my sleep schedule and I haven't drank energy drinks since. So you have my gratitude for getting me to drop an unhealthy habit for the dumbest reason possible.

I just realised something about this case...
In the description of every episode is a series of letters and numbers consisting of various details: the category(not entirely clear what this means), the rank (even more confusing), the DPHW score (utterly incomprehensible), the date of the case, and the date the case was read/listened to. These phone calls happened on the 9th of February 2024. Sam listened to them on the 12th of February.
The reason there was no follow up to such a seemingly short case is because it only happened three days ago.
After looking at the categories for each episode they are broken up into 3 parts. First is a single number, so far 1-3, then some letters, than 4 numbers afterwards.
If I were to guess the first part is some sort of risk or "danger level" because cases where people actually die are rated 1 where the tattoo case is rated 3. I am completely stumped what the other two parts could mean though.
@@ethanduncan1646 My personal theory of the categories is they correlate to how the case's "protagonist" relates to the paranormal event.
1 is a witness. Here it's not someone being directly affected by it but rather just reporting what happened.
2 is a victim. This is when the protagonist is directly victimised by the event/avatar.
3 is when the protagonist actually becomes an avatar over the course of the story.
I think this episode is category one because while the protagonist is definitely an avatar, this isn't his "origin story" of how he actually became like this.
Also of note is when a category has two digits, is that it's never any numbers other than 1, 2 and 3, so I think a category 12 for example would be where someone has both witnessed and been victimised by something paranormal.
@@elliesteele2027The second category so far has only had a combination of RB, C, or RBC. The first two episodes were RBC, then the next 2 were C, and the last two have been RB. I cannot really see a pattern that this case has with the last one.
@@ethanduncan1646 The R just stands for Rank (no idea why it's missing sometimes) the letter after it is a scale of C-B-A-S, with in-between scores like B/C.
I'd recommend looking at the Klaus.xls sheet accessible from the Magnus Protocol Wiki page about the ARG.

However, it'd be funny if she found them weirdly familiar, bc I'm desperately clinging to the headcanon that Chester and Norris are OUR Jon+Martin who got shifted around between timelines/universes

Hell, she might have had an encounter with this world's version of the stranger and gone through an identity crisis for all we know, or be on the run from something or someone, or straight up be an avatar in disguise
I don't mean to discard OP's theory completely, I just wanted to point out that it might not make sense with what we know now, so they wouldn't set themself up for disappointment

Also did anyone else notice Lena insisting the new people eat food in the office. Sam was the only who ate cake at the party in ep 1, and Lena insisted the party was at the office not the pub and now she telling Celia has to eat the mini donuts on the premises and Lena only puta them out when new people join. Feels odd to me
Feels at little like Elias keeping people at the institute by make them employees (ie Melanie), and the idea of don't take food from the Fae or you'll be stuck in their realm mixed together

This is a great point. I wonder if consumption somehow plays into the OIAR’s alignment in some way. Food could be a manipulation tool, something in the vein of the Web, but it could also represent the Flesh (however unlikely due to their lack of subtlety). There is the additional possibility of the Extinction, as consumption relates to many of its major elements. Or maybe it’s just a Lena thing

Needles seems like a proper Slaughter avatar, to me, which I’m _very_ excited to explore! Especially since he’s not just another super-powered soldier, or another rage machine like Melanie was when she was infected.
Instead, he seems to be fully embracing the whole _“fear of pure, unpredictable, unmotivated violence; the fear of pain coming at sudden, random moments”_ thing to a T! And he seems to be having a _blast_ with it!

Ok so, spoilers I guess - I might be imagining things but hear me out, the sheer euphoria in the avatar’s voice at around 7:40 is really interesting - it reminds me of how Jude described the feeling of setting herself on fire for the first time, makes me feel like they weren’t a “full” avatar yet, like Jude, already been exploring and killing people around but they finally found /it/, finally /felt/ it. I love that.
Also the little rattlesnake-esque effect of the needle-shudders the avatar gets when they get exited is so great.

LESGOO FIRST PROPER ANTAGONIST CHARACTER INTRODUCTION WHOOOP WHOOP
This episode hit a little harder for me when the phone call with Needles occurred. I used to work as a dispatcher, so I felt what it was like to be that operator.
The sound design when the needle monster said "Lambeth then". Doing the horror story through a phone call, brilliant. The monster gave me Michael vibes too. And the fact no one else heard the story except Sam? It's like Freddy plays the story specifically for the person.
Also, Alice, if I wasn't suspicious before I definitely am now. She seemed odd around Celia saying "yeah" in an odd tone when Sam said she was nice, that and they were interrupting her usual spiel with new hires. Also, the whole large "turnover" thing and just her odd comments in general.
Then again everyone makes odd comments like Gwen saying "don't get attached" about the new hire and Celia herself saying she thought she'd covered the hardened killer vibes or that she "doesn't scare easily". So, they're all suspicious tbh 😂
I've never trusted a cast of characters less, they're all shady as hell 😅 there's definitely something that Alice caught onto though, she seemed weird around Celia.

As for Alice, I think she probably has some things worked out and knows enough to not get too involved with their work. I wonder if she's figured Celia out and is worried about Sam?

Even after listening through TMA, I have once again found myself attached to characters I’m fully aware will meet a horrible end. Why am I like this?

Needles feels like a new avatar, just figuring out things. She seemed to stumble a bit when trying to frighten the dispatcher, but was quite happy killing otherwise.
So, Needles and the artist (can't remember her name) are the only two avatar-like beings we've heard voices for. Maybe we'll hear more!

I think at least 4 of the seven 7 stories so far have an avatar so far, as the protagonist or the one attacking. The guy zombie guy from the very first story, the painter girl in 02, the old man with the violin in 04 and now Needles- you could even argue the doctor or the being pretending to be his dead girlfriend was an avatar.
It's a... deeply worrying pattern

As someone who is nocturnal by nature blackout curtains would hurt me more than help me. I've found I can sleep easier at night if I leave a light on. Sunlight always makes it easier to sleep Nothing like laying down in a beam of sunlight and having a nap.
Needles is so delightfully creepy. Love me a good banter monster. I really love how the Fears do seem to be blended together this time around. Needles mentioned being Lonely but I'm sure they're not part of that Fear, at least not truly. Seems more like a Flesh-Hunt intersection to me. I really do hope we get to hear from them again.

Yeah he's touched by the lonely for sure. But I was thinking he was more slaughter/ desolation based. Given the "hurt when not expecting it" aspect of our new favorite pincushion. I hope we see more of Needles tho
@@voidpoultry3008 Desolation I'll give you as that can be very personal and singular but Slaughter is very clearly more in the war or massive casualty sort of thing so doesn't really fit here
To me Needles seems like a very personal sort, more of a one on one deal.
Hunt and Slaughter are very close to one another but do have clear lines. The way Needles zeroed in on that dispatcher is very much something Hunt aligned finding its next prey to, well, hunt. There's also the insinuation that Needles is in an area with lots of muggers and that they go after that sort of people and it's well established that of all the Fears things of The Hunt like to go after their own often enough because the stronger the prey the better the hunt and what makes stronger prey than another hunter?

Interested to see how Celia comes into all of this. Every other character we've seen exist in both universes or cross from one to the next was really important in Archives (John, Martin and Jonah as the text to speech, Gerard Kaey being one of the names listed in the ARG, and possibly this universe's Jonah Magnus since there was a Magnus Institute). Celia however, also known as Lynne Hammond, was just a random statement giver who saw what was possibly the ghost of Agnes Montague who then became a survivor of the eyepocalypse after being rescued by Melanie and Georgie from a Stranger domain that caused her to forget her name.
My current theory is that Celia and Lynne aren't actually the same person but rather alternate universe versions of eachother.

OK is anyone else getting stranger vibes? Initially, I thought that this was going to be a statement of the distortion, but the more I think on it and relisten it sounds like it’s a statement of the stranger. Just because it’s implied that he’s made of needles. Maybe even some slaughter elements as well?
Does anyone have any theories on this one? Needles could be a Stranger, especially with that Iron Maiden imagery, but also the Desolation maybe. The powers don't seem as cut and dry anymore.

I've listened to this episode like 7 times already, good job guys.
Is it just me or is it definitely getting harder to tell what kind of Avatars are at work here? Between Needles and Ink5oul both revolve around body mutilation, but the vibes are starkly different to the Flesh avatars in TMA. We know in TMA Avatars categorized themselves based on the Fear they served, but I wonder if that's the case here. There doesn't seem to be a distinction this time.
