TakeALookAtBanner i'd say past work is better but then there's difficulty in hearing lyrics, just so much going on, is that girl bending over, did that guy just gesture to me, am i sure i'm actually even here
Of course Dan is on the song whose second part sounds exactly like a really good New Order song... he's turned a really amazing career out of essentially being a hugely talented Bowie and JD/NO fanboy, and I mean no disrespect to him by that. Every project he's had, every guest feature he's on, is gold. He's a post-punk Midas.
Can't even remember where or why I discovered them but it's been more than 6 years and I still don't regret it. Went with my closest friend to at least three gigs of yours! You're just that good!
IndianaINC oh which track are we referring or believing #gottokeepyourheadup for the sake of humanity and betterment of souls because i think i lost mine - at least someone keeps telling me so, which includes her whom was the everything keeping me appropriate in place and well-held in scope
Say what you will about the name or about their overall influences but Preoccupations is one of the best bands in the world.....and sadly not a lot of people know about them
i think they played this when i saw them open up for explosions in the sky august 22nd in Houston, Texas at White Oak Music Hall, during the end of their grand opening
For some reason, this song makes me think of the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror. I imagine the first part as when Yorkie and Kelly are first falling in love, and the second part as when they live happily ever after
Heres the best version thats out there, everything but one line taken from genius, and one line (Paraphernalia) was me making my best guess. Paraphernalia - "miscellaneous articles." aka junk and stuff. Sounds like he says it and it would make sense based on the previous line [Verse 1: Matt Flegel] Necessary but against your better judgments You were being overcharged in the market square Overwhelmed and it’s coming from all angles You were entertaining the idea that it wasn’t fair [Pre-Chorus 1: Matt Flegel] But the picture seemed sharp enough to view life through you I can’t remember where we were, where were we when we all went under? [Chorus: Matt Flegel] You don’t have to say sorry For all the things you failed to do You don’t have to say sorry For all the times when everything fell through [Verse 2: Matt Flegel] State-sponsored character assassination I promise that I’ll burn your things when you’re dead and gone It’s an orchestrated controversy No strategies for dissolving in the atmosphere [Pre-Chorus 2: Matt Flegel] And the distance seemed sure enough from Point A to Point B Your favourite feeling was the ground falling out from beneath your feet [Chorus: Matt Flegel] You don’t have to say sorry For all the things you failed to do You don’t need to say sorry For all the times when everything fell through [Verse 3: Dan Boeckner] Unholiness Arrives by satellite On time And I see no Anomalies between Both sides [Verse 4: Dan Boeckner] You could help me With every little need End scene Left here with no Paraphernalia Recede [Bridge: Matt Flegel (Dan Boeckner)] Erasing (Erasing) Your memory (Your memory) Erasing (Erasing) Your memory (Your memory) [Verse 5: Matt Flegel] Our particles Collide and drown By candlelight Our particles Collide and drown By candlelight Beautiful stuff, truly
I'm still going to refer to these bastards as Viet Cong, I thought that was such a great band name. Bummer they actually caved in to the "controversy". Amazing sophomore album though, did not disappoint.
Yeah, I agree. I like how they survey the entire post punk/new wave landscape in one epic track. They kind of start out on the harsher end of the spectrum by showing a Joy Division or Bauhausish sound and then turning it into a more Bono esch anthem.
What's probably being referenced is how it builds and propels forward until it soars like many U2 songs. To name a few: Bad, Exit, Where The Streets Have No Name, Zoo Station, No Line On The Horizon, A Sort of Homecoming, Tomorrow
Eloy Hurtado Bermudez wait, whom is the you in reference, because which song are you referring; are you saying this is for dads and not kids or have you been delving into some strange u2 albums no one knows of
HDHyperDrive Hey, I hear that Beyonce's last album isn't boring, so, why you don't go to listen it as soon as posible and leaves us to your not-boring presence?
honestly that transition at 3:30 is so fucking good i remember hearing that shit like 5 years ago and being fucking amazed
U view this track as a 3 track ep and yes absolutely beauty in a track
Beautiful music. My favourite group at present, no matter what they bloody call themselves. Long live Viet Cong.
fucking hell, dan boeckner fits perfectly. absolutely killed it
I can already imagine how sick this will sound live, especially the intro.
god this song is so heartbreakingly beautiful, Dan's snippet is gorgeous as well 💙
Keep making those pedals. The world needs them.
Every song is so damn good

Do your research bruv
seeing your profile picture I can see you have an amazing taste. This is a great song by the way
TakeALookAtBanner i'd say past work is better but then there's difficulty in hearing lyrics, just so much going on, is that girl bending over, did that guy just gesture to me, am i sure i'm actually even here
Along with King Gizzard, Swans, and Radiohead, Preoccupations is one of my favorite bands right now!
Music that fires the imagination. Thank you x1000!!!!!!!
Of course Dan is on the song whose second part sounds exactly like a really good New Order song... he's turned a really amazing career out of essentially being a hugely talented Bowie and JD/NO fanboy, and I mean no disrespect to him by that. Don't see that avatar everyday. Lol
It's terrible. I love it
could you tell us something more about him, with which band did he collaborate?
Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade. Excellent band, definitely check them out.
Thanx a lot Shamus
Please come back to your hometown Calgary!!!This album is amazing, every song is perfect.
My favorite track of the album
Amazing track, the core of a masterful album - one for the ages, really!
Fantastic band! My second favorite Canadian musical act next to GY!BE.
Can't even remember where or why I discovered them but it's been more than 6 years and I still don't regret it. Went with my closest friend to at least three gigs of yours! You're just that good!
There's definitely some influence by GY!BE as well...especially from 6:50 until the end of the song.
so looking forward to their album
Dan Boeckner's beautiful new song 'Euphoria' brought me back here ❤
that bass riff
Awesome.
absolutely gorgeous
This is the epic from the album: a great song that gives the band some breathing space beyond comparisons with classic bands of the past.
welcome back vienna bong
Jet thong
Simon Firth oh you're those voters, against names, how would you feel if your mom named you
not in the slightest. all for the name change
I know people say last 4 min is boring but I think in live that section will be insane and could be like Sonic Youth like noise session
TheZooropaBaby That kind of people don't listen Diamond Sea after minute six
@@cesarfriedart3100 astute observation
It is insane. I saw them in Toronto in November and they blew the roof off the venue with that section
What people really say this? I like ambient and drones and stuff like that.
Quality... Still on playlist in 2020!!!
unbelievable tune
The closing 4four Min outro of Memory is not only structurally sound it is quintessential
ready for the album
Great song. Dude kinda sounds like Neil Diamond in a wizard cloak.
digno de um coro solitario o álbum promete!!!😉
best band on the planet
no
edit:
I love this band very much but there are older bands that are really hard to beat
yes
I think actually yes, one of the best bands.
César Friedart one of the best =/= best band
Pink Floyd, Queen will still be better
So good! Again...
3:58 perfección
This song has me imagining what it would be like to die of old age. A crystallized brain suddenly retraces its memories then fades to black.
brilliant...
5:40 is pretty much the best possible way the end of the world could sound
what a fucking great singer! who knew that the bass player of 'Women' has such a unique voice...
why did they change the name from 2pac to this?
Suge Knight threatened to throw them off a balcony if they didn't.
White guilt
IndianaINC oh which track are we referring or believing #gottokeepyourheadup for the sake of humanity and betterment of souls because i think i lost mine - at least someone keeps telling me so, which includes her whom was the everything keeping me appropriate in place and well-held in scope
Please continue, mathew with one T.
Brett Bewley thought that'd be the most easily acceptable answer
This is such a good video
Perfection!
This song is the best in the world
Ahem!
Brilliant !
Muy buen tema !
Say what you will about the name or about their overall influences but Preoccupations is one of the best bands in the world.....and sadly not a lot of people know about them
masterpiece
love this band...the singers vocals me of neil diamond...
Love this, first part Neil diamond second part Bono
i think they played this when i saw them open up for explosions in the sky august 22nd in Houston, Texas at White Oak Music Hall, during the end of their grand opening
welcome back Viet! ;)
edgy
I honestly didn't even know of the name change and kept wondering when the new stuff was coming out
For some reason, this song makes me think of the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror. I imagine the first part as when Yorkie and Kelly are first falling in love, and the second part as when they live happily ever after
this is fucking brilliant, goddamn.
dis hard
Wholesome shit
Bad ass musical transition brought me here
Theneedledrop brought me here! Nice

Puurfect !
But their music is definitely more melancholic in this second album, though.
i need lyrics, PLEASE!
lyrics are on azlyrics website I believe
but official lyrics? pls?
the ones online are incomplete, though Genius has the most accurate and complete version
Heres the best version thats out there, everything but one line taken from genius, and one line (Paraphernalia) was me making my best guess. Paraphernalia - "miscellaneous articles." aka junk and stuff. Sounds like he says it and it would make sense based on the previous line
[Verse 1: Matt Flegel]
Necessary but against your better judgments
You were being overcharged in the market square
Overwhelmed and it’s coming from all angles
You were entertaining the idea that it wasn’t fair
[Pre-Chorus 1: Matt Flegel]
But the picture seemed sharp enough to view life through you
I can’t remember where we were, where were we when we all went under?
[Chorus: Matt Flegel]
You don’t have to say sorry
For all the things you failed to do
You don’t have to say sorry
For all the times when everything fell through
[Verse 2: Matt Flegel]
State-sponsored character assassination
I promise that I’ll burn your things when you’re dead and gone
It’s an orchestrated controversy
No strategies for dissolving in the atmosphere
[Pre-Chorus 2: Matt Flegel]
And the distance seemed sure enough from Point A to Point B
Your favourite feeling was the ground falling out from beneath your feet
[Chorus: Matt Flegel]
You don’t have to say sorry
For all the things you failed to do
You don’t need to say sorry
For all the times when everything fell through
[Verse 3: Dan Boeckner]
Unholiness
Arrives by satellite
On time
And I see no
Anomalies between
Both sides
[Verse 4: Dan Boeckner]
You could help me
With every little need
End scene
Left here with no
Paraphernalia
Recede
[Bridge: Matt Flegel (Dan Boeckner)]
Erasing (Erasing)
Your memory (Your memory)
Erasing (Erasing)
Your memory (Your memory)
[Verse 5: Matt Flegel]
Our particles
Collide and drown
By candlelight
Our particles
Collide and drown
By candlelight
Beautiful stuff, truly
Really thank you very much!
Antonio Mondragon Always glad to help!
I'm still going to refer to these bastards as Viet Cong, I thought that was such a great band name.
Bummer they actually caved in to the "controversy".
Amazing sophomore album though, did not disappoint.
Peter Murphy?
Clock DVA
Matt Flegel

lit
Reminds me of Paolo Nutini - Fashion.
This would have been a great song if they had begun it at 3:27 and ended it somewhere around 7:00.
2nd part sounds like u2
true, but u2 just goes straight into what is this second part, they don't have cool transitions like preoc.
Yeah, I agree. I like how they survey the entire post punk/new wave landscape in one epic track. They kind of start out on the harsher end of the spectrum by showing a Joy Division or Bauhausish sound and then turning it into a more Bono esch anthem.
U2 plus Killing Joke
What's probably being referenced is how it builds and propels forward until it soars like many U2 songs. To name a few: Bad, Exit, Where The Streets Have No Name, Zoo Station, No Line On The Horizon, A Sort of Homecoming, Tomorrow
Eloy Hurtado Bermudez wait, whom is the you in reference, because which song are you referring; are you saying this is for dads and not kids or have you been delving into some strange u2 albums no one knows of
1980's
I can still hear "women" from them :,(
Eric Alexander me too, I believe that in ten years Women become a cult band, especially by Public Strain
I expected another epic song like Death and Instead I get a song where the second half is an useless ambient bore
Whiney baby. Matches your profile pic.
Fuck you ivan
These guys sound like Viet Cong.
They were
Also look like Viet Cong with longer hair.
A lot happens in those last 4 minutes..
recede....erasing....your memories....
boring
Get outta here you
HDHyperDrive Hey, I hear that Beyonce's last album isn't boring, so, why you don't go to listen it as soon as posible and leaves us to your not-boring presence?
César Friedart Dude you pwned me good
so glad I happened upon these guys, so f'ing good!
