lucinda is such a wonderful teacher! this is the kind of coach i would need. i love that she doesnt coddle you but she doesnt make you feel bad about anything either, its just a simple matter, it is what it is.
Absolutely. She is very straight forward with it all, but she is absolutely fantastic. You learn just as much, if not more, by listening to what she says, than riding! She is truly incredible.❤
Honestly these are my favorite lessons! I had one JUST like this with a horse at my barn this week and it’s a challenge but it gets my brain working and forces me to work together with my partner to ride well. Sometimes my horse gets with it, sometimes she doesn’t but either way it tells me something I didn’t know before. Go you and Earl! Also… love love love Lucinda!
@paulwebster2616 YES! yet maybe we shouldn't even call it 'old school' because the term tends to scare off the youth. This teaching is simply right and good !
Thank you 😂😂 physically and mentally exhausting but so so worth it l! The weird line of jumping where we had to turn left (into that made up jump with poles as sides) was literally the hardest work.. people who know Earl will know that usually he would just jump the side 😂 he’s typically a point and go… with 0.01 seconds to tell him where to go😂
Brilliant place! Great facilities! And everyone was so friendly! Although I did manage to get lost on the road there (why is the road so long?? 😂😂) and I also managed to lose my way in the toilets too cos of all the doors 😂.. I think it may be a me problem 😂😂
I think these exercises are brilliant! Will definitely try on my mare in training that just runs through the fences - love the “uneven” poles too, really teaches them to pay attention!!
You need a neck strap, there is no shame in a rider using one, your constant jabbing in his mouth is not acceptable. Every time he refused the water you should have disengaged his hind quarters in a tight circle , which will make him realise it's too much like hard work not to comply. Do you do neck stretching excersises before riding, in the stable getting him to bend both sides and downward, to release the poll tightness and also lift his belly which will make him round his back , loosening his top line
....question. when she reads this comment, what would you like to happen? if you want the person that youre talking to, to listen and take what youre saying to heart, you have to say what youre saying in a way that makes people feel safe to take what youre saying to heart. the tone of this comment comes off like youre chastising her, and that tone (even if it might feel appropriate and necessary from your perspective, i get it, its painful watching a horse get his mouth yanked on), isnt actually appropriate coming from a total stranger in a comment on youtube. maybe read your comment over and truly try to phrase it in the best most understanding way, thats aproppriate for a stranger, and the person might feel like youre helping them. i see it way too often that comments like this are not actually trying to be helpful but are trying to tell someone off and impose their knowlegde and way of doing things on others, which never gets recieved well.
@@rhi963that’s really kind of you thank you. I obviously know that I catch him in the mouth.. it upsets me so much. Unfortunately Earl rushes fences and gets extremely strong once he sees a jump. We typically ride in a rubber happy mouth gag. So I get my arms pulled out the sockets, but it’s the kindest option I have tried. I’m getting better and better, but in this lesson I used a Waterford Dutch gag because we’d had a break from jumping so I was scared that I’d have zero brakes and I knew Lucinda would had me doing crazy lines. He’s very difficult, but I am trying my best to get better. We do all our flatwork in a snaffle. And I tend not to catch them when we do a full course rather than 1 jump, or trotting them. But I am getting better. We also don’t jump too often, but I’m hoping to get more consistent and try some tips from Lucinda and my trainer Claire. I’ve tried a neck strap but he rushes after the fences, so I just have to learn to get better, stronger in my core, and learn to slip my reins when I get left behind(which is easily done as he is such a powerhouse). I’m slowly getting better at slipping my reins 🤞🏻. Thanks for being kind. Hope this helps❤
I don’t feel ashamed to use a neck strap. They don’t work for us personally because Earl rushes fences- as well as after. We have been working on halting after the fences to stop this habit. Lucinda does not like circles and teaching us to never turn away. So respectfully, I disagree. However, if Earl ever naps and I get stuck, I do actually do what you’ve said. Yes I do stretches with Earl. He’s very supple. He’s a very tense horse. Always has been. He knows the job far better than me, but I am learning as much as I can. We don’t jump higher than 95 because I refuse to go higher until I consistently don my catch him and we have our pace under control. He’s a lot harder to ride than you may expect. We have a full series called Eventing Earl on TikTok, that may help you gain a better insight into our journey. Thanks for the attempt to help. I’d appreciate some empathy. I would never want to hurt Earl. Please see my other reply on here too. Thanks 🙂
Could you do any better . I doubt it ,,, sitting there behind a screen.... Constructive criticism is always welcome, but lecturing someone who's had the horse for probably some time , to me I suggest you check your own riding whilst others are a least trying to improve theirs .....
"Don't expect it to happen. Make sure it happens." What a statement for riders from Lucinda Green ! :) Thank you for this great video.

When it’s good, it’s good.. otherwise you just get booted into the atmosphere 😂
Looks great just wondering where was the lesson at?
The lessons are always at different places, but this time we were at RWA Equestrian in North Yorkshire. Brilliant place!
Your hands should go from concrete to feathers,,,in a split second,,,, wise words from an absolute LEGEND....
