@@calisongbird While TUL does make metallic-color discs, they are not aluminum. They are made of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) which is a type of plastic. I've tried some other brands of metal discs, but Levenger are still my favorite.

I love office supplies too! I have a couple of the Arc notes books (one letter and A5 size) in the leather. I like them, but find them heavy. I'm starting grad school in Jan. and wanted something lighter, but the Arc plastic is too flimsy. I just ordered a couple of Levenger foldovers and can't wait to get them. I am glad I found this video because we are so similar (likes and dislikes)! I wish I knew about disc systems 6 years ago when I started grad school. Now, I only have 2 courses left plus the dissertation and want to finally find a system that works for me. I've been on the fence and overthinking this decision (I've been looking at Arc and Levenger). I want to get this system because I am left-handed and hate when spiral wires get in the way; I like the idea of taking out a page to write notes then sticking it back in. I've been using a binder, but like you said, holes tear and they are bulky; plus it drives me crazy when the holes punched in paper cut off text. Great video - very helpful!

New subscriber and I love note books too. Anything paper from note books to journals I believe every human needs a paper trail or a story they leave behind for their loved ones whom are yet to be born. Just the thought of it is amazing and maybe they will see what life was like cause lord knows in 30 years life will be very much different god forbid the termination of PAPER. Although it would be good for our trees but everything maybe in 30 years will hopefully come from recyclables instead of live trees. Just a nutty long term thought.

PS the Circa notebook cover you have here is actually called the "Sliver" notebook (not "silver") Also, the reason the pages turn more smoothly in the Levenger than the Arc probably has nothing to do with the brand. It's because you're using aluminum discs in the Levenger vs. plastic discs in the Arc. But aluminum discs are available everywhere now, in various colors and sizes, typically for a lot less $$ than Levenger's.

Going back to school and I am exactly like you. I’m so obsessive with my organization. I CANT use notebooks. No way. And binders I hate binders. So for the last 6 or so years of my schooling I was using the five star hybrid notebook binder, problem is the 3 rings are flexible and flimsy. The pages don’t turns smoothly and I would rip the pages by turning the pages too fast. Disc bound sounds SO good but we mostly work off power points I don’t take freehand notes. So I’m still unsure. But I looove this. It’s so nice! I organize my binders the same exact way! But in my classes they didn’t let us keep the exams 😭

Do you think you could take the five star reinforced filler paper and punch that with the discbound paper puncher, and then use that paper in these notebooks?
I ask because I saw someone either on here, or another video about the discbound notebooks say to stick washi tape on a worn out discbound page, repunch the taped side and put it back in the book. I'm looking to try one of these notebooks, but I don't want to have to buy paper that costs so much and still need to invest in the expensive punch.

So if anything this notebook makes easier! I hope I'm making sense and thank you for watching :)

EvelynMariel yes I understand and this is why I decided to purchase this notebook because of its functionality. If you don’t mind I have a couple of more questions. Which size of disc do you recommend if I decide on using four class subjects? I know it says that the 1 inch size disc can hold up to 150 sheets of paper. Do you think it is better if I use two notebooks so that I can divide my notebooks into two subjects or is this notebook strong enough to hold that amount of sheets (150-200 ) with out it being too heavy /bulky and the pages turning without a problem ?

I know I’m late to the party, but I really think there are bargains to be found on the clearance isles of Joanne and Michael’s Craft Store’s, they often have plain notebooks of disc bound paper with laminated cardboard covers. Sometimes they also have planners that are discounted partway through the year. I utilize these in a lot of different ways.

Just so you know though, there are these things called happy planners by a company called me and my big ideas, and they have discs and covers that you can buy and no paper that you can buy to make your own notebooks, they also have a whole bunch for those discs so you can use any paper that you can find online and just punch it to send them to the notebook!

Thank you for this video. I've been looking forever to find a system where I can easily add pages to my notes and review books. This seems to be the best option out there. As someone who is new to disc binding, I have few questions. I have a medical board exam review textbook which has an odd size of 8.27"X10.86" (I cut the spine of this textbook & now have unbound pages of this size). I'm planning to put this in a disc binder with interspersed regular 8.5"x11" white pages where I'm planning to add more notes of my own. Does the Levenger Circa 1-2-3 Portable Punch handle pages of unusual sizes like 8.27"X10.86" or do I have to buy the bigger & more expensive Levenger Circa Universal Desk Punch? Also, can the Levenger portable version puch holes through thin plastic sheets if I want to make my own disc bound covers?

Sudhir M I am very happy you found this video helpful :) I am not sure about the page size, I will have to measure and see... but as far as the thin plastic sheet... I have never tried to punch a hole in a plastic sheet but I have tried three pages at a time in the portable hole punch and I was able to do it. I just had to squeeze really hard! I think you would have to squeeze really hard for a thin plastic sheet but more than likely it is doable :)

Thank you very much! I found out that both the Levenger punches can handle that page size, but only the larger one might be able to punch holes through the thin plastic sheets. So, I guess I will invest in the larger one since I also have 100s of pages to punch & the larger one might make this process go faster. Thank you once again for an excellent review of the disc binding system.

Where do you store your pen when you use the poly notebook?

Adrienne Marini I keep my pen in a pencil case... I don’t really like keeping a pen in my notebook because I lose them every time 😐

I also heard of the Happy Planner where you can just do it yourself and i was wondering if anyone knew what size is compared to like in a binder? like is the Medium rings comparable to a 1 1/2 inch binder?
