Zoe Hong to your response to "what brand of markers you like/use" I will like to share what happened to a classmate of mine while in Fashion School. This particular classmate was great at illustrating as well as design and so at one point a meeting was arranged at Saks Fifth Avenue for my classmate to meet Isaac Mizrahi so he could glance at my classmate portfolio. To your point Zoe Hong, Isaac Mizrahi after praising my classmate proceeded to tell him "you have beautiful illustrations if fashion illustrations is what you want to pursue but if you are going for design you need to have full collections concepts more than beautiful illustrations". Thanks for all you share with us all in this wonderful channel of yours Zoe Hong! P.S. What I shared happened in the early 90's.
love the introduction to this video!! fabric content and biodegradability is so important--i make clothes for someone with intense sensory intolerances to most polyester, and even when they can find natural fiber clothes in ready to wear, most clothes are sewn with polyester thread. so thread content and fiber content are both super important for designers to consider!
Fellow design geek here ;) Another good lesson! I'm inspired by the idea of really sketching out the things in the inspiration pics and working out how to iterate on them.
Zoe, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I admire you and the work that you do. Your dedication, hard work, and passion are truly inspiring to me, and I am constantly in awe of your accomplishments. You have made a significant impact in your field, and your contributions have not gone unnoticed. Your determination and drive serve as a constant reminder that anything is possible with perseverance and hard work. Thank you for being a role model to me and to so many others
Hey Zoe .. can you do a video on how to draw different body types? Most sketches are hourglass / pear shape women but I don’t see many sketches of women with apple , rectangle and inverted triangle shaped bodies. Would love to see your take on it
Loved the talk about considering the fabrics and their care, how they feel against the skin, and all the other things to think about when choosing your fabrics
I don't know how you managed to answer so many concerns of mine before I even articulate what's bothering me! 😂 Every single thing you said in this video was really helpful for me and it ties everything about design process. I'm really loving this series. Thank you so much 🙏🏻💜 Let me add something, sorry a lot of paragraphs ahead 😂😅. My first job after graduation really confused me. I didn't work with fashion professionals so I had to constantly battle against let's say non knowledgeable opinions about designs or fabrics that doesn't make sense. So I couldn't design a collection properly or I couldn't trust in my process because I was jumbled with opinions (orders) that in the end we had no results. So when you talk or lay out your design thoughts like in this video, it's like having someone there for you to mirror and understand. It's helpful to know how to arrange my thoughts depending on the situation without feeling odd doing it.
Zoe great videos I love them and your experience is awesome I have one question im into Mens Fashion say distressed looks etc im out of inspiration where can one go and get some creativity and more inspiration any advice?
Well for the raincoat fabric you could go back to the original oil cloth. That's very environmental friendly. Not the new vinyl coated stuff but using actual linseed oil to make it waterproof.
Love this video! Except I find that I have to start with fabrics first because that's where I get my inspiration and I tend to look for fabric that meets a lot of criteria because I design with practicality and longevity in mind for whatever I'm making but that being said I definitely have colors in mind always. I love how you organize and plan everything out. I use my not so wise impulse fabric purchases to do all kinds of tests to determine if a certain fabric will stand the test of time.... So what I'm saying is I'm a recovering fabriholic... It's been four months since my last useless purchase 🙄
You are more talented than Nick Wooster because you hand draw your designs. You look up Nick Wooster art work or drawings and all you get is Nick posing with his arms crossed yet again. Who's the real designer? Yah, lets talk about that. Shall we? Your drafting skills are top notch. Congrats!
writing my bachelor of science in physics thesis on textile physics, so I am about to binge watch every video you have on fabrics. so excited !!

Concept over illustration! For sure.
I love the whole 'collapsed hot air balloon' thing so much, the aesthetic and the design details you're creating are just gorgeous
Thank you so much!

Oooh, interesting. There are some laminated cottons that are more sustainable than oilcloth, which is coated in plastic.
I love that hot air balloons are giant windbags, and you deflated them. 😂
haahahhaha~

What if we want a fabric with a specific print on it !! 🤔
Is there's a machine or something
Yes, printing companies who do custom prints exist.

I really appreciate the compliment but there's more to being a designer than sketching talent. But thank you haha
