wow...you were one of my teachers, but I got into this song by the men they couldn't hang when I was in the 6th form (1986..!), tho, their song was called the green fields of france.. :) Alan McArdle....slaty...
Hey John! Thanks for that! (I got the seal of approval from the man himself......Eric Bogle.....that was cool!) I have recorded this song with my son on an album we Guillorys recorded for the ABF in 2014 to commemorate the centenary of WW1. Sorry I have just seen your comment I rarely visit my own stuff!!
A sincere, impeccable rendition. Thank you for sharin this with us. My late Dad fought through the six years of W.W.2. All he would ever say about it was, "What a waste!". Perhaps this sentiment sums up what these soldiers felt at the time the photograph was taken? [Tyneside, England.]
Absolutely beautiful version of one of my favourite songs. An amazing voice. Would love to hear you sing "Willie McBride's Reply" by Stephen L. Suffet (sung to the same tune)
Hi vicky, could you please tell me what model or range isaacs country jumbo Takemini was? I used to order isaacs albums from those personal records forms you could print out from your site. I really miss Isaac, and I am alwas playing his songs, i have a Takemine, but I want to upgrade, preferably as near to Isaacs steel string one as possible, can you help? Beautifull song by the way, i never knew you could sing!
Having heard Joss Stine and Jeff Beck murder this song at this year's Festival of Remembrance it's great to hear it done properly You should have been at the Albert Hall.instead of Joss. Nothing against her - I think she's terrific, but she was the wrong voice for this song, and it didn't need Jeff Beck's wailing rock guitar. They also missed out the last verse, which was unforgiveable - it's the whole point of the song. My ex-wife put me on to this. She was a teacher at West Gate in 2001 - Sue Connor
Hi Nicky Jacob still has his Dads steel string Takamine but it is at his Grandma's house for when he stays there! Isaac got his two Taks when he toured with Francis Cabrelle and he got to keep them at the end of the tour........they were the first Takamines in the UK! I will check the model etc when I get a chance and let you know! V
