Erratic you can earn it back pretty easily with claims from missions, that’d be ~1000 in dev alone
You forgot to mention its essential to get Edrine in the first peace deal to block the Otto in the next wars :-)
its really importat to demand edirne , since its ottoman capital , your allies wont be able to return it to you , even to its your core.
@@yigitk6016 Only true if you lean on a war with Albania. In that case make sure you make a separate peace with Otto to get Edrine. Albania will give you most of your other cores when they peace out later.
Why would you take Edirne?
Makes more sense to isolate it and block the strait so in successive wars it's easy access for you, how I usually do it anyway

@@tip0019 yea bubba that's why I said isolate it, take the other side of the strait before you take Edirne, you get the fort in Optimatoi to slow them down as well as being able to blockade, giving you plenty of time to siege Edirne for however many times you want to siege it, easy war score
I think they changed something with byzantium in the most recent update, because ottomans 99% of the time attacked albania first, but now they seem to be attacking byzantium first, tried 3 times, and they declared war on me before i could ally hungary in all three attempts, which never had happended before

I decided to try it as a hard challenge.
It is VERY easy.Did it first try:
1. Before unpausing, return the only muscovite core you hold.
2. Muscovy will not be too agressive towards you, and consider you a secondary target like any other rival. This is due to you no longer holding any of their cores. Denmark usually minds it's own business if Muscovy doesn't attack you.
3. Ally Golden Horde or Kazan, and improve relations with Poland
4. As soon as Poland attacks the Teutons, invade Livonian Order, and release conquered land as vassals: Estonia and Livonia (they will provide way more troops than if you just annex the land)
4. Wait until Muscovy depleted its manpower figthing a random steppe horde, and invade.They usually get no allies, or ally snall orthodox nations.
5. Ez game from there lmao
p.s. It used to be literally impossible back in the day before mission trees became a thing.Now Muscovy only gets claims on all of your land if it is already at war with you, before they used to get it from the start via mission.

The pre-order pack is actually a pretty good DLC. Its cheap, a lot of the byzantium events are "this faction has gained favor in the court! *heres 50 monarch points*" plus the mission tree that gets u the free claims, and it also brings the 100 years war unit pack. I honestly never cared for unit packs until i got that one because omg thry just looked so damn cool so defenatively worth it if you're playing not only as byzantium, but also England, France and the countries around them.

I've been a fan for a while and I want to tell you what an amazing job your doing in terms of clarity of the content and the structure of your videos. I consider my self as above beginner level with around more than 2800 HRS of game time and learning a big deal from you. I was very excited when I saw a Byzantium guide by you but unfortunatly it is not as clear as the other guides made by you due for Byzantium being one of the hardest nations to play and RNG is a HUGE factor in a Byzantium game which I dont think anyone can do a guide without certaing elements are fixed such as rivals and who the ottoman attack first. thanks for your effort and keep up the good work,

After 3 tries doing this, two of them the Ottos attack me first, so... game over. The other one, Hungry rivals me from the start, so all "ally Hungry early" strategy is gone. Even though, the Ottos attack Candar but afterwards they don't attack anyone else for some years, so the Albania-Venetia strategy early seems also gone. Later on they are attacked by the Mameluks.
I think mothballing Constantinople and decreasing army maintenance and not building army to force limit makes you a juicy objective and makes very likely that the Ottomans attack you.
I think the strategy about releasing Morea and Achaea and join a trade league is the safest way to deter Ottomans to attack you.

Well I wasn't expecting this when you said you were gonna do a Byz guide. You're right that there are tons of guides out there and if those of us that asked your particular take on it annoyed you at all I apologize for any contribution I had. You are just the first youtuber since Reman that makes these sorts of informed and concise guides. I have roughly 2k hours into the game, I have my 3 mountains achievement as well as all the others I really care about, so I don't feel I need the direct guides. I watch these videos because I love seeing how other people play their games, so just know that if me or others ask you for a guide, so long as they are polite, I hope you take it as the compliment it's intended. Love your channel man and make sure to only ever do a video if it is something you really care about, you don't owe any of us anything.

Ottomans always attack in 1446 for me, even if I have the one ally. After 15 save games the same exact thing happens. I’m always 5 points away from the Royal marriage with Hungary when it happens

I tried so many times but ottomans always seem t attack me in 1446 or if I’m luck 1447. There’s not enough time to get any decent allies. I also don’t have trade league or Cossacks dlc so I can’t use those strategies.
In one of my games the A.I. managed to conquer the Ottomans with Byzantium 😲

Forts are definitely not a joke.
You may not want them if you're a small country that can't afford to maintain one. But active forts boost army tradition, which is good. And I can think of multiple occasions where I could've been blitzkrieg'd by my enemies had they not been forced to inch their way through 4-5 forts. And times where I fought armies much bigger than my own and emerged victorious because we battled on one of my fort provinces.
It may be good to reduce spending to a minimum early game. But later on, that extra pocket change ain't worth it if you lose wars because you didn't set up proper defenses.

For anyone struggling to get a Hungarian alliance- you need Hungary to rival one of if not both Ottos and Venice. Threatened towards ottos and common rivals with Venice is an extra +30 reasons I believe.

This is my strategy for defeating ottomans.
- Ally Hungary, Wallachia, Albania and Theodoro
- Sell off the 2 trade ships to Venice or Aragon, build to navy force limit with galleys and 2 heavys.
- Attack Ottoman January 1450, calling in allies on promise of territory.

I once had Mamluks invade them, but I didn't have whatever DLC it was that lets you and your allies give cobtrol of provinces to others
Its the Art of War DLC and its very important for strategies like 'vassal feeding' . Probably the most important DLC at all. 'Common sense' is important to spread certain institutions faster, especially in Asia it can take a while otherwise. It overall also makes it easier to create power houses for tax generation as you can up region stats with monarch points. So both are IMHO essential. One issue I've found with Poland as an ally is Jageillon usually starts with pretty low military skill so that has the double effect of putting PLC behind in military tech

Maybe I'm just unlucky af but Hungary always manage to make it so I cannot get them in an alliance (Modifier goes to like -70 or more) and the turks almost always declare on me first, what do?
To be fair, an updated guide is almost always warranted as soon as there’s any AI tweak

Pro tip: if you peace out in the same day as Albania you will get all your cores back (you must took Edirne for yourself) + some provinces you took. Best strat is still Albania + Venice.

In all my byzantium campaigns I allied Albania and attacked asap when they are busy with the beyliks. This has the charme of being a fast strategy so you can try again fast.
But the last time I played byzantium was in 1.25 where the AI is really stupid and won't engage your army and only will siege down your forts. The defensive edict in Constantinople and an advisor helps.
But I don't know how the AI behaves in the current patch. It is kind of a running Gag drin paradox to need byzantium in every patch.
I recently successfully survived as byzantium by allying more than i was supposed to, conquering the turkish beyliks, and then taking the caucuses. I got big enough to ally muscovy right as the ottomans were about to declare war because of the babbling buffoon trait. It was glorious
Improve production by 2-3 in achaea or morea and then you can turn Athens into a March. You can also move your capital to achaea and play geurilla war without any forts at all.
You can also ally Wallachia and Trebizond and perhaps Karaman or Cyprus. Circassia and Abkhazia may also join you. Dont forget Orthodox icon for 5% discipline should the chance arrive.
Dont forget that you can improve base tax then exploit provinces for extra cash. "especially useful for Constantinople"
That said, the Skanderbeg strategy of going alone with Albania is almost impossible now. It used to be a 20% chance of pulling it off. But nowadays its almost impossible to lure the Ottomans away from Constantinople. You are going to need to ally Hungary or the Ottomans at war with Venice to even stand a slim chance.
I have yet to see ottomans attack albania in 1.28. I've played this over 20 times now so this isn't just RNGesus.... I think they may have changed something in the latest patch.

Other strategy for taking out ottomans
Start in CK2 in 1337 and take them out during the hundred years you play in that game. They’re small and can be holy warred to death in only like 30 years

Instead of letting albania to peace out, you can cheese them by transfering the sieges to you (via interest) and peace out separately taking anatolian provinces that arent your cores. then albania and it's allies will siege out the ottomans again and albania will take it's only 1 core and with the rest of her warscore will use the return cores and return your cores back to you. (if you peace out separately you will have to improve relations back with albania to guarantee that she will give u back your cores). also to know when you have to peace out wait for albania to peace out and save scum( I know it's cheesy and it's cheating but if you want the max out of this u gonna have to do it)

I'm at 32 restarts now most of the time they attacked me first, but 4 times I managed to ally hungary before that but then something went wrong later

What I ended up doing was much more cheesy. I went over forcelimit on Navy and attacked Venice for Negroponte and confu and vassalize Naxos. I then mothballed Corfu fort and had small armies their and on Negroponte as bait. I then strikes the Ottomans when I could inflict major naval damage. Using those bait armies both ottoman stacks entered Corfu and Negroponte and I was able to trap them by occupying Yanya and whatever Negroponte connects too and blockade it. At that point I had 40k of 45k ottoman armies trapped on islands so I just sieged everything down. In the end I was nearly bankrupt due to my navy (also ran out of sailors the first and only time in my 800 hours) so I took some cash and also restructured my debt (take new loans once you grew in size so you get larger loans that can pay off multiple smaller loans)
Only took like 4 restarts and a LITTLE savescumming. In the end I got the Mare Nostrum achievement. This was done some patches ago, I would imagine it's still viable however, maybe even easier now that the Orthodox faith was buffed with third Rome DLC, Mamluks are now stronger and more likely to attack the ottomans if they are in trouble. And the Byzantine mission tree gives you a shit ton of claims too.
Also some tips you didn't mention, Edirne is the most important province to peaceout with because you can blockade the strait now.
Keep an Ottoman province or two close to whoever you allied in Europe. They will be more likely to join an offensive war if kebab has a province near them.
Take a Bulgarian province and release them, they have a decent amount of development to reconquest. I think they start as Orthodox too which is an added bonus.
And get to Serbia and take that gold province!
winning your first war against venice as byz, while keeping otto's from attacking you in your war sounds impossible. are you playing on easy or something ?
@@yigitk6016 I allied several minors and just declined call if they were attacked. I remember being attacked once by the Ottomans before I was ready so that was a restart. This was done on Ironman
how did you get a achievement if you savescummed?
@@eduardopupucon alt f4 doesn't affect achievements. At least not on my system. You can even super savescum and save that save file somewhere else and bring it back into that saved games folder if you want to load the save, even if it takes you 200 years back. If you don't actually alter anything (aside filename) it shouldn't disable achievements.
Although I rarely do that.
That's the old strategy, and the only one that worked for me btw.
Venice fleets never help in Blocking the Biga strait. They Always just sit in the adriatic and wait until the stacked Ottoman fleet murders one tiny fleet after another.

Hungary didn't rival Ottos. That is the biggest Byzantium killer.
It's been 3 years, might need an updated guide. I have watched/read several now and the AI just doesn't fall for the tricks people say to use. I played the game in like 2017 and did ok as Byzantium but I just can't do it now. I dfon't like turning to guides, I like figuring stuff out for myself but this one might be beyond me. I assume DLC/Patches changed stuff. I also play on hard, I play every game I have on hard, if I can;t beat it on hard then I can't beat it, I won't stoop down to pleb normal/easy.

Lithuania allied me,because of that we had enough troops to keep the ottomans busy,until the mamluks attacked them.Lithuania made a seperate Peace so i had to peace out for 2 Provinces,but the Mamluks forced them to return all my cores except for Edirne.
Every time I try byzantium I have to restart like 6 times before I can get going
Also be careful if ottomans collapses too hard because I've found that mamluks will get big
Well, the join Albania and fight otto stacks worked for me like 15/20 and that was without the Trade league dlc. Should be doable. Also you forgot s key thing or didn’t know about it. You can release Morea and wait a month. Then you will be powerful enough to rival Ottomans making big allianced such as PLC and Hungary easier to get(Enemy of enemy).
I managed to defeat the Ottomans as Byzantium with the smaller nations of Trebizond, Theodoro, Albania and Serbia. Ottomans declared war and we managed to stackwipe an ottoman army with Skanderbeg! :^)
Rush mil tech 4, ally Albania, build many troops, take loans, you need around 20k, wait till the Ottos declare on someone on anotolia, hire moral advisor and a general with more than 1 siege pipe.
Declare, rush siege Edirne and hopefully you siege before Ottos reach level 4 mil.
The Ottos wont attack you until level 4, if lucky you can stakewipe them with that albanian god general and your difference on moral.

I dont like playing super hard, but I wanted to restore the empire so I tried byz around 50-100 times. Didnt count, but budgetmonks strat never worked for me :/. It almost worked twice, I ended up going full diplomatic, I allied all small nations, disolved alliance with albania to save diplo power. Allied lithuania and then I was finally able to disolve some useless alliances. I was full on loans and a huge army. Ottomans attacked albania, when they got weakened and lost battles to venice I declared war without allies and I managed to get enough warscore to claim erdirne :/. I really sucked. But then Venice decided to give me 4 extra provinces from their peacedeal. :D
From then on I did the usual stuff and defeated the ottomans. By 1821 I had managed to own all of balkans, half of naples, all of east med extended to alexandria.
I was lucky and won with no DLC’s. I annexed the Ottomans, but by the time they were annexed, the Mamluks, Serbians, and Venetians has taken most of their territory. They then went on to annex me as well after breaking their alliances with me.
What's the best first and second ideas I should consider taking?
i did the same thing but i didn't join the Albanian war, I simply rented my troops to them and helped them siege down stuff, then the mamluks joined in, then karaman joined in, then hungary joined in, then poland joined in, aaaaand it was a fun bukkake at this point

Signed alliance with Theodoro, Hungary and Imeretia. Got Imeretia as PU subject. Expanded in Caucas. Then Hungary was vassalized by Austria. Both Venice and Ottomans attacked me... Nyeh!

For some odd reasons whenever hungary rivals the ottomans I dont get the bonus for an alliance from being thretened by the ottomans. It always works for the mameluks but never for hungary
How are you supposed to block the trait to begin with? In my games, the Ottoman fleets will usually end up winning against the many fleets weak fleets of my alliance.

ANY Byzantium start that claims no Restarts is false, because if the Ottos DoW you first; you're screwed full stop. Any successful Byz strat in the current patch requires time to get the alliances; and usually also needs Ottos to attack Albania and Venice's goon squad first.
I personally like sending Condo to Venice and helping Skanderbeg. If he wins he even usually returns your cores anyway; Ottos are hurt and you have no truce.
My first attempt had me go bankrupt. The once I got back on my feet Venice, Naples, Austria, Ottomans and all their allies declared on me and my allies Serbia and Hungary as well as I got crushed
No it turned into a coalition and all of my allies betrayed me and the HRE stepped in when I tried to get athens back
