    BACKPACKING THAILAND 🇹🇭 EPISODE 18 📍KHAO LAK
    I was recommended by some friends to visit Khao Lak on my Thailand adventure. While I don't think it's a great backpacking destination, it is the departure point for some world famous diving! So I spent a few days by myself exploring the town and scuba diving in Richelieu Rock.

    How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these TH-cam videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using www.backpackingbananas.com/pr...
    Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
    Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

      @@BackpackingBananas Just a friendly word of advice.
      I've known a lot of women (one of my sisters included) over the years who strongly regretted wasting their fertile years hanging out in places like Thailand thinking they were being 'strong' and 'independant'. The sense of adventure wears off after a while and then you're left wondering.
      If you want to have kids and a family, you need to prioritise that before you run out of time. Men who are looking for wives don't take travelling female back packers seriously when it comes to commitment.
      To each his/her own but father time waits for no woman.
      All the best and Safe trip.

      @@PB22559 Totally agree Brian. Furthermore, it is possible to spend time in countries like Thailand as a backpacker (that the locals don't like) and not have a clue about the country they are visiting. Christianne, thanks for sharing the true reality of being a solo backpackers. Some days you are just meant to be on your own and it's hard to meet anyone and that's ok. It happened to me too during my first solo backpacking trip to Costa Rica (which I decided to plan after watching your videos for years!!!!). I thought being an outgoing and friendly person, I would always meet people travelling but the universe had other plans for me sometimes. :) Now I know better and I can't wait to go on another solo trip soon.

    Thailand is known for its beaches, and Khao Lak has plenty of beautiful coastlines. One of the most well-known beaches in Khao Lak is Nang Thong Beach. With its crystal-clear water, beautiful sand, and scenic palm trees, Nang Thong is the perfect place to relax and work on your tan.

    we stayed at a great little bungalow just by the turnoff to the road that goes to the pier. it was 500 baht and absolutely magic in a palm grove.
    I helped an older gentleman with an injury on the beach one day and his son-in-law is the owner of U-taro. Best sushi ever and free cocktails for helping his dad. His brother owns the Italian place next door which was also handy. Best non-Thai food in Khao Lok!
    Similan and Surin are two of the most beautiful islands in Thailand and the diving was spectacular. We went with Love Andaman and had a fab time - would highly recommend them.
    Memories Beach is fun - got a nice surf vibe which you don't find often in Thailand. Will be back again sometime to dive those islands again and maybe stay overnight on Surin.
    In the meantime it's absolutely pissing it down again in Sydney, but I'm WFH and getting paid well so...could be worse.
    Happy travels! 😊

    For the past 2 weeks I’ve stayed in Khao Lak, but in a resort (Merlin resort). There are some really great resorts here right on the beach, and it’s a fantastic destination if you’re looking for a more chill, relaxing vacation with some cool excursions to waterfalls, temples or similan islands. It definitely doesn’t really have the typical backpacker vibe. For anyone visiting Khao Lak in the future: make sure to visit Tiger bar. The owner of this bar (Tiger) is a real gem, will give you lots of tips, and is overall just the most interesting person I’ve met in Thailand so far. He’s got some impressive stories about his past as a monk, and he also took my partner and I to the temple where he used to live and it was just amazing!!

    There are many beautiful beaches like White sand beach, coconut, Nang Thong…really different atmosphere if i compare with Phuket or Krabi area.
    Many high level natural expensive and cheap resorts for families.
    There were died more than 3000 swedish tourists in 2004 so its popular for Long time…

    I just love your dive videos! So did you leave a review for that hostel? Did you rate it as OK? Looking forward to the next video of Phuket…apparently I’ve been pronouncing it incorrectly for years! Lol

    I’m starting to soften up my wife about Thailand travel. She’s a little sensitive to heat and humidity (she stays hydrated and it’s all good) so I am curious about that. Is it oppressive at times? We’re seniors but have travelled extensively. I absolutely love, love, love your channel!

      I was there January-March and found the heat and humidity TOTALLY manageable 😊 it felt like perfect conditions really!

    How do you decide what to do and where to go next? Do you just Google 'things to do near me' or something? Or do you have it all planned before you arrive in Thailand? Thanks

    • @BackpackingBananas
      @BackpackingBananas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do research before I arrive in the country so I’ll have an idea of where I want to go but I keep my plan flexible and am very open to new recommendations and opportunities I receive along the way 😊

    Hello. How does one dive with contacts? I always thought they would float away or you would lose them...I must be misinformed. I even take them out if I really want to dive or swim underwater in a pool - although blurry. lol

    • @TheShauNanigans
      @TheShauNanigans 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure you dive with a full face mask, so the contacts wouldn't go too far if they were to pop out or something. I don't wear contacts, so I never thought about it before. Interesting!

    • @BackpackingBananas
      @BackpackingBananas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m wearing a mask when scuba diving so honestly my eyes don’t even come into contact with the water for the most part! I have also swam without a mask with contacts in and never had an issue (though I remember my optician telling me not to do that lol)

    • @maschahelena
      @maschahelena 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please don’t get in the water with your contacts (whenever your eyes touchy the water)! I did, got a water bacteria in my eye and never recovered, hence my cornea is fully distorted in one eye. My doctors mentioned it happens a lot more often than necessary just because people are misinformed. Same like me lol. No judgement, just passing some useful info along! Much love

    I am visiting Khao Lak next month 😁 how much does it cost to hire a moped for one day?

  • @Gettingoffthestrugglebus
    @Gettingoffthestrugglebus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Christianne! I know Khao Lak was one of the areas heavily impacted by the Boxing Day tsunami. Would you say that maybe the town’s just never recovered. It still looks kind of vacant or do you think that’s Covid? PS I love your name, if I had a daughter that would be one of my top choices 😃

    • @BackpackingBananas
      @BackpackingBananas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! Hmm I felt it was more because of covid rather than the tsunami but I’m not sure really! Aw thanks so much 🥰
