That menu is brilliant. Takes me back to playing A Link to the Past and skimming through the booklet.
Great review. One thing that might have been skimmed over for fear of spoilers: It should be noted that the secrets go deep in this game. So if you're a fan of games like The Witness or Fez it might scratch a similar itch. It's my GOTY so far for that reason. :D

Pretty funny to say considering Tunic started dev and was announced before Death's Door, but yeah they do have some similarities since they're both inspired by similar games.

This game looks very very similar to deaths door from the combat the art style even the camera style

Been waiting for this game for a loooong time, so hype it's finally out.
I'm a little bummed the review gave so much about it away though, a lot of details in there that I would've preferred to find out on my own :/
Another one to add to the list...after Elden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West, and the Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade. 2022 is an embarassment of riches so far.

This is what modern top down Zelda has to look like and play like. Top down Zelda has to go back to its more combat focus gameplay roots.
"Small development team" is almost an overstatement when it's just (edit: mostly) one dude. Pretty cool to see the positive reviews coming in.

At the beginning it was only one dude, but the team grow up bigger later in development.
@@EasyAllies Interesting. I tried looking it up and all I could find pointed that it was a solo dev except for the publisher. Now that I looked at the credits, he does seem to have received external help for audio/music, level art and stuff like QA (tbf we still say Last of Us is a Naughty Dog game even when they have a ton of external partners), but even the Steam page just says his name as the developer. I'll edit my comment, but it's still relatively accurate if he took care of the entire design, programming, animation, character modeling, VFX, etc.
From what I can find, it's not on game pass and I could have sworn it was 🤔

The weird thing about this game is that for all the talk about how “Zelda” it is, it is NOTHING like Zelda 1. (And only a tiny bit like Zelda 3) It’s much more more dark souls and, oddly, the cult classic Little Big Adventure (“Relentless” here in the USA)

Played the demo and found it too punishing without the possibility to mitigate that (the thing that convinced me to stay in the Lands Between).

I absolutely disagree that this game doesn't reach the heights of A Link to the Past.
Not a fan of the art style but happy the gameplay is tight.

Isn't it kinda stupid that Items are in a gibberish language and the menue is like 70% gibberish and 30 english? I dont know... not really feeling it with this game. Kinda tries to take elements from old zeldas and some soulsesque elements and mixes them into a kinda mediocre idea. But I guess if you are into it then go for it.
I don't think it's stupid. I like that it requires you to experiment in order to understand how things work.

Damn, 5 years from an indie game only to make an 8.0 game is not great. Indies usually need to a 9.0+ to get that massive traction. Better luck next time Tunic devs!
What are you even talking about? In what world is 8 not great? Your assumption is also completely wrong and baseless. Stardew Valley didn't crack 90 and still sold 15M as of a couple months ago.
Anyway, Tunic sitting at 87 open critic which is an amazing score, even more so for a solo dev. It's also on Game Pass so you know they already got a decent check.

also, IGN and many others gave this a 9 or more. This is the first 8.0 I have seen and considering it's from one dev, I think 5 years is alright.
@@Ayoul game going straight to gamepass is not really a compliment). It means that it's just one of hundred indie games that already populate this subscription service, and it really looks like mobile game from 2015.
@@tabulaluden why does everybody keep talking about one dev? That's a legend that fans are sticking to, final product is not a result of just one person working on it. And 8.0 score is actually overkill - it's just so happens that all game related media give indie games higher scores just because it's indie and must be supported.
