Hi Brian. Yes, sometimes the taper is a bit steep and in fact you want a non-tapered pin. In which case I find them dead easy to hold in watchmakers lathe or open-vice and file to suit. Good point though, thanks for getting in touch. Those compartmentalised plastic boxes drive me crazy... as you can probably gather :=)
look at the stress fracture on that toothed ratchet thingy!! I bet you'll have that sorted in a jiffy :)

The only problem with these pins is that they have a fixed taper and sometimes you need a shallower taper. Otherwise, yes they are very good.
