Steam Deck 16/512GB model is 650 dollars. The Early Bird price of Ayaneo Air 1S is 799 dollars for 16/512GB.
The price is not unreasonable. Others can't compete with Steam in terms of price, because Steam's revenue is from selling an infinite amount of games. Aya has to make the money from sold hardware, and their profit margins are arguably very thin since their sales aren't high scale.

Too many handhelds coming out and the only two worth getting in my eyes are the $400 Steam Deck and $160 Anbernic RG405M. That's it. The rest looks forgettable or will take up space in your home and will go unused because who has time to play on 20 different handhelds? Guys like ETA, Taki, and Russ are here to talk about them. I doubt they use any of them daily except for 1 or 2. They have families to raise.
I'm very particular in what I want from a handheld. I keep seeing these videos between Deck vs. Ally and I'm glad the Ally exists. Competition inspires innovation. But it's clear to me Steam Deck is better for most people like myself. Inferior hardware usually won out their generation. Nintendo has done this for so many years with inferior specs but cheaper prices.
I believe the RG405M would be the GOAT retro handheld if priced the same as the Miyoo Mini. I'm talking less than $80. I do wish it came in a plastic body to reduce the weight. But it's very close to perfect. It's got a 4:3 aspect ratio which is ideal for most games for PS2/GCN and prior gens. Only 640x480 which will make it sharp since many games were in 480p or below. No need to upscale. Got hall effect sensors.
I wish Valve releases a Steam Deck Lite similar to the size of a regular or OLED Switch. When I bought my most recent Lite from OfferUp, it came with a case more suited for the reg Switch. I eventually got one specifically for the Lite and I love it. I can use that other case if Valve ever releases a Deck Lite similar to the size of the reg Switch or to this Air 1S.

idk I still likethe steam deck for it's analog stick button/dpad and touchpad placement, and the fact that it hastouchpads, for shooters and desktop navigation it's so much better
and the ergonomics and comfort and screen size and price
I want something small but comfort and control is most important if you're gonna have a device that's already large
wish steam deck has a snes style dpad though, it's got the mushy modern style dpad that's only good for changing weapons and stuff

I don’t understand why people complain about having the latest hardware in fast production cycles. They seem to do fine with software updates. This is a perfect console for me. Sadly, I canceled my order and went with the rog ally. I rather have asus 1 year warranty + an extra year from my credit card company in case anything goes wrong. Shipping a device to china sounds like something I don’t want to deal with. With their small team, rapid production cycles and limited hardware(replacement parts) It would probably take months. With small issues like a faulty key I would probably not ship it and get stuck with a half working unit. I’m sure in 2 years I’ll want to upgrade anyway.
If there was local manufacturer warranty/repairs I would 100% get one.
