Eric Dier is a natural born leader, in the form of his life and clearly miles ahead of Harry Maguire in every conceivable way. Much better passing range, playing every week, dominant in the air, scoring goals.
Maguires World Cup performances over 4 years ago are irrelevant.
Lewis dunk is better than Eric dier he is in the best defence so far in the Premier League Lewis dunk has been the best English centre-back this season
@@dmitrikemp2341 that might be true to be fair, I haven't watched a lot of Brighton to be honest, but see Dier every week. Both certainly have more right to a call up than Maguire on current form. Eric Dier at least also has the experience of playing and scoring at tournaments as well.

A topic of conversation in the video was Eric Dier or Maguire, which is why I made the original comment. I'm more than open to picking the best player first and foremost, so if that's Dunk I'll think about it. It's difficult for me to have a discussion about whether or not Dunk is better than Dier with the sample sizes I have watching them both, however it is a fact that England know Dier is someone that isn't too phased by being called up and Dunk only got picked years back and played one friendly.
My point was kind of based on the idea that I can't blame anyone for not taking a risk on Dunk for the World Cup and Dier is clearly the closest to Maguire in terms of experience.

@@dmitrikemp2341 exactly. Brighton had the best defense last season also, and before that Dunk carried Brighton all the way from League Two. Dunk is one of the best CB in the world for years with Rüdiger and Matip. And England's best CB obviously.

I saw him hold Maguire saying he was so vital in Russia WC and he scores goals. This is the reason England have a trouble winning anything major titles. Always picking players on reputation rather than current form. so sad.

England are now adding players like Toney and potentially Abraham to the mix. Players who can get their head on the ball and are natural finishers. They don't need a slow liabilitybat the back.

Tammy Abraham not good enough compared to the other strikers mentioned such as Toney, Wilson, Watkins, and others. Abraham had to leave the best league in the world at a top club to get game time in a weaker league and weaker team.

I haven't seen a more hypocritical team selection.. the guy ignores Shaw but picks Maguire.. Abraham has been one of the best stikers last season but doesn't get picked... Shaw is arguably the best LB we have right now.. Chilwell lacks defensively and is too injury prone.. Henderson is decent but others are better unfortunately...

The fact that Maguire going and actually playing is even a conversation shows you that England are bound for another disappointment.
Can Southgate be left at home? If that happens then the squad itself would be able to play some sort of football that isn’t based on ignoring the ball more often than not and an abundance of defenders in the squad
Thogden didn't even have a real reason for Sancho's omission. He's so invested in being pro Southgate that he's even making the same unjustifiable decisions. Why would you take 4 right backs, and then leave out Sancho?
You can also argue that Dean Henderson should go because he is a penalty specialist. It's highly unlikely that you'll need more than one keeper throughout a tournament, so you might as well use one of the spots for a penalty specialist; he's also about as good as the others overall anyways. Not too fussed about the keeper though, for me all 4 are about the same level.
To rectify the egregious decisions, take out Trent and Maguire. Replace them with Dier and Sancho.

Alexander Arnold as a fullback is more productive offensively than Sancho has been for the past year. I agree Sancho deserves a chance to go but not if it’s between him and AA.

Thogden shouldn't feel bad for henderson as he hasn't played well except for his penalty saves but his reactions after are completely unneeded and childish as his team was losing and get he was celebrating like he'd won the world cup. Also henderson didn't play last season so tough luck and imo he hasn't even been that good for me he has let in a few goals that shouldn't have happened

Not to slander anyone, but Trent is the probably the best footballer in the English squad technically, he isn't as bad as people make him out to be defensive and going forward his on his on level. Stop listening to what the internet tells you, Trent would win so many games for England, just as his done for Liverpool.

I don’t know how it’s even a question about whether or not he makes the squad.
Trent plays in a back 4 for Liverpool and would be in a back 5 for England which would possibly have walker as the RH of the 3 centre backs. Therefore he wouldn't need to be too focused on defending.
He is definitely as bad as people think defensively. He’s proved that consistently. But if we’re playing back 3 then he should def start at RWB with James as a backup, and I’m a Chelsea fan

@@hq.. those two things aren't linked. You can say Dier playing well and being left at home whilst Maguire on the bench and on the plane is hypocritical because they both play in the same position. But the fact that Maguire should be left at home is completely irrelevant to whether Sancho should go. You can make arguments for Sancho going like Sancho va Grealish or Sancho vs Rashford or an extra winger instead of a midfielder like Kalvin Phillips. But you can't compare a winger to a CB to justify taking the winger. Hypothetically we may have had to take an out of form CB Maguire but leave an inform winger like Sancho at home simply because we had an abundance of good wingers and fewer options at CB.

As a man utd fan my changes would be dier in for maguire and sancho in for rashford. Tho i'd take out one of the defenders for an attacker probably. Wouldn't be taking rashford he's had like 4 decent games in a year and half and was downing tools 5 months ago.

I would probably make alot of changes
For example I would put (1) Kyle Walker Peters over chilwell going on current form (2) Eric Dier over Harry Maguire (3) Conor Coady over Ben White I mean Coady is just a leader in the dressing room and this team full of youngsters so they do need some experienced players to help them out
My thing is we are struggling to score goals. Players like Grealish are super creative but not a goal threat. I think we need more scoring threats on the pitch even if they hurt us in other areas. Kane last night was super selfish. There were a few scoring opportunities and he just shot. Like later in the game we had 4 players in the 6 yard box being covered by 1 defender and kane shot from a terrible angle. That was just poor from me because he's usually so unselfish.

Only reason I'd take Maguire over White is because you have to think about the logistics of how England play. We play with a back 3 and have multiple players comfortable at RCB (Walker, Stones) and CCB (Dier, Stones) but only 1 really at LCB (Tomori). And even he hasn't played there a lot. From our 4th CB we don't need another RCB/CCB so there isn't really room for a White, Coady, Dunk etc unless you took 5 CBs which is pointless. The choice for 4th CB is really between Maguire and Kilman. I'd have loved for Kilman to go to the world cup but he hasn't been integrated into the England team. As a backup LCB we have to rely on Maguire and I think Southgate knows this. You can't just hrow defenders that are playing well for their club into the squad because you defend as a unit. That's why we see a lot more rotation in the forward positions than defensive positions. Your average England fan will never think I'm this much depth when complaining about Southgate's choices but these are the things he has to think about. And there's a reason we haven't been getting knocked out in the group stages or round of 16 under him like we were before he came in.
I honestly believe Foden needs a player like Sancho for that intricate 1-2 play that he loves. I would take Sancho.
