Hi, about three minutes after you passed the coffee shop Elevated Grounds you said that you wished you could find a good coffee shop. You were so close. Lol Thanks for all the positive things you said about our town. I appreciate it.
We ended up going to elevated grounds after we finished the video!!!! The coffee was amazing and the people were so nice!!! We are going to be back in Piedmont in a few weeks to go kayaking with some friends!!!! We loved the town!!!
I grew up in Piedmont. The plant you were talking about it the cotton mill. The houses you see were all mostly mill houses. Drugs are terrible in this area. It used to be really beautiful. It died when the cotton mill closed and they took up the railroad tracks to build the Ladiga trails. I used to swim in every creek, river, watershed's and lake was busy then. It's so sad to see the way it is all boarded up. They use to have a street party every summer. We would put bubbles in the water fountain up town.
The cemetery on the hill has been there before my time. But most of the cemeteries there are on a mountain. My family is buried in Spring Garden high up on the mountain. It's an absolutely beautiful area but it is so dead.
I am originally from Piedmont. The town was really nice in the 70's and early 80's with things to do. There is a coffee shop in town near the light at the outdoor bar and grill. It is still a beautiful location with all the mountains. Thanks for visiting. I moved from Piedmont in the early 80's. My mother lived there until 6 mos before her passing in 2024.
Grew up here and man it was miserable as a kid. Made some lifelong friends but have lost more to drugs than are still around it feels like. No opportunity there. We always spoke of how this place was an abyss. None of us thought we’d make it out of there. Love to the Piedmonsters I know out there surving but getting out of Speedmont was the best thing that ever happened me. I got lucky.
I grew up there i moved back to Pennsylvania when I was like 8 in 2010 I live there from 1 to 8 years old and I loved it. I lived on daily street right diagonal from the center and right if u took the bike trail to livelys it was only a block down. I freaking hate it in Pennsylvania
Yea, because Seattle is such a lovely place with no drugs or crime. Its dirty af as well, and Piedmont is relatively clean. Just because there are no jobs or things to do that match your interest doesnt make it an abyss. I feel lucky to have grown up where everybody knows everybody. The schools try harder than most to help the students as well.
I helped ole Jocko paint the Coca Cola sign back in the day. Was fun getting with Cisco and painting on “Art Alley”. Well damn. Sitting here in Seattle. Remembering all this stuff
Some of our citizens have been sharing your video the past few days. I've lived here nearly my whole life. And we actually have two coffee shops. The one ya'll stopped in at, and the Dugger Mountain Fudge shop there at HWY 278. Enjoyed the video!
It’s a nice little town. I brought my kids there when they were small to see a drive- in movie, there were none in our area and I wanted them to see what one was like.
I appreciate the tour through town and residential area. You’re correct in that there are a good many outdoor activities around this area. You mentioned the Chief Ladiga Bike Trail, but I believe the Pinhoti Hiking Trail is also close by. It starts further south of there and connects with some trails over in Georgia, one of which I believe is the Benton McKaye trail that also connects with the Appalachian Trail. I think there are some creeks and rivers nearby also that may offer rafting or canoeing. I grew up in North Alabama (Decatur) and have lived in Georgia for 37 years and have driven through Piedmont hundreds of times going back to visit family in Alabama and again on my way back to Georgia. On some occasions I have stopped for a meal or gas as I passed through there. While real estate values are high across the country, one might find property here to be more reasonably priced. You’re not too far from Gadsden, Fort Payne, Rome, GA, Atlanta or Birmingham. I’m not sure I would want to live here, but I would consider it for the outdoor activities and just that small town vibe. Some people may remember that a tornado touched down there in the early 1990’s and it hit a church sadly killing a few people inside. It made the national news.
I’m from Rockmart Ga, and we’re viewing a house in Piedmont Friday. Piedmont has cheap houses and within an hour drive of my job. These Georgia prices are crazy.
When you said, cute little apartment complex, I laughed a little, not at you, but that was the town’s public housing complex. Pay attention as you continue to travel that for many small towns who have some type of public housing, the features look alike. The doors and window trims are almost all the same.
When the F-4 tornado passed through Piedmont in 1994 and killed many people, my boss was coming back from Georgia on Hwy 278 and the tornado passed in front of him by less than a mile. He got stuck on 278 as trees blocked the road and he was there for 3 plus hours as volunteers showed up with chainsaws to clear roadways. I''ve done the Ladiga trail (by foot) from Jacksonville State south to its terminus in Weaver, AL and also north to almost Piedmont.
I already know about Piedmont AL because I live in Etowah county I have been living in Etowah County sinse 2008 so I know a lot about Alabama. And the mountains you see in the background or either from Etowah or Dekalb County. So best of luck in Piedmont. Go to beans and greens is located in Gadsden very good food. The forest is Talladega National Forest.
Wow, youre so wrong, lol. Do you literally not see the big ass mountain in the videos? That is 100% Calhoun County and 100% in Piedmont. That mountain is on the South side of Piedmont and Etowah County is Northwest of Piedmont. Dekalb or Etowah County do not have a mountain taller than Calhoun/Cleburne/Talladega. Dekalb County is 30+ miles away.
I wonder what their primary commerce is? I think the mayor best get them roads squared away - I am seeing new buildings and the Auto Zone and McDonald are good signs but if they could attract some solid commerce or a factory nearby, this could turn into a good little town.
I first went there about 50 years ago I had neighbors in ga that was from there and I went with them over there to visit family they are all dead now but I remember that trip very well they eventually moved back to Piedmont where they all died
I Would Love to See the out Skirts more in Country and Land , I was never a in town or Neighbors I like alot of land on my Propertey. But Beautiful old Town.
Heres a fact they only have 1 bus and it only gets the kids from like the outskirts of Piedmont and if u lived closer to the school u either had to walk or get dropped off by parents. And also you had to supply everything for yourself in school like toilet paper and that. That probably was the worst part id say
I thought we only bagged poop here in SoCal....Growing up in Ohio, we NEVER picked up dog doodie. I am looking at the piedmont area as a getaway because I am SICK of the concrete gridlock of Los Angeles....I'm not thrilled about the introductory neighborhoods here, but I would have to know the people....Piedmont is a good location between Birmingham and ATL to get in and out.
You know what i find really irritating how people who lives here most of your comments are about drugs . Drug use is no more rampant around here than say any other town and alot less than some towns .you people who do these drugs i hate to break it to you it not the towns fault it is yours you would have gotten ahold and done it no matter where you at you chose to do them your location had nothing to do with it you were going to find and do it regiardless ! So stop blaming a whole town for your problom at least we dont have people standing on corners selling it knockinn on motel door offering it or car window offering it to you no you no one walked up to you and forced or offered you drugs off our streets it. In every town not just here
Moved here from Sacramento @SeaveyCircle Some comments I have seen seem to put shade on my new home town. Less than 90 miles from Atlanta,Birmingham, and Chattanooga and Nashville,Memphis and Knoxville not too far away.. I can be on the Bike trail from my front door without even pedaling. The biggest bonus is 9 out of 10 grade on every school here!! Top sports program and I bought my house for 20k cash and in 5 years it’s 120k value has been a great investment with only the initial investment. Just Zillow the schools here and if you have a family then you know the value of a great education. One more thing.. lots of people are investing in these houses here!! Drive through again and you will see a huge difference. Thank y’all for coming through!!🙏🏻💯
Moved to piedmont back in 2008 regret it every day the school is full of bully’s, had to send my youngest to spring garden school. More drugs and drama in this small town then what’s in New York City in my opinion. The town use to have entertainment from what I was told drive in, pool hall, skate rink, grocery stores with groceries in it lol, kids parks that weren’t in disrepair. The town is turning into a ghost town. So glad you got to enjoy it now while it’s still here…
Crashed before the recession in the early 00s. All the mills and factories closed. Town won’t bring anything in. Utilities are crazy due to owing money to the state. Friend of mine back home said the town just filed for bankruptcy. Didn’t know that was a thing. It’s pretty wilderness out there though
I moved to Piedmont a little over two years ago, I can’t wait to move bc of the nasty stuff the high school and church has covered up. Small town secrets are wayyyy worse than city secrets. #ProtectOurChildren
@@dalet9207 ohhh awesome maybe i can get a job at the place thats been closed for 40 years. I got paid to tear that place down 20 years ago, paid a nickel a brick.
@@Crazytraveladdicts ohhhh i got ya. Go to pinky burns trailhead. Take left out the driveways go about a quarter mile turn right on a dirt road. Drive til it deadends at creek. Kayak upstream to a giant resevoir. We always called it greenlief. Named for a prominent family about 200 years ago.
You should research this little town more…. Interesting history. The factory was a cotton mill I believe if I remember right. It employed most of the town and was devastating when it closed. You really didn’t even touch on the good points. Happy trails!
Thank you for making a good video of our town. Other people have come here and made videos and made fun of us for being a small town, so thank y'all.❤
❤️❤️❤️ Your welcome! We loved it!

Small town life. They seem to have a great view of the mountains

More of foothills. The lower foothills of Appalachia
Piedmont is a beautiful, scenic, good town. Very little problems, if any. Everyone should come visit Calhoun County, AL.

@@tobydavis5673 oh wow! Thank you for all the great info
Piedmont started out as hollow stump Alabama, and was renamed Piedmont in the late 1800's because of it being situated in the Appalachian foothills
I’m from Rockmart Ga, and we’re viewing a house in Piedmont Friday. Piedmont has cheap houses and within an hour drive of my job. These Georgia prices are crazy.
Yes!!!! I think a lot of Georgia people are moving to Alabama for that reason!!!! Hope you find a nice house❤️
