I think, the point of the final fight was that his father's righteousness (sword)was not enough to vanquish the "evil". It took his mother's years of yearning for vengence(the chains which were used to tie her up) and her belief that could help him kill the villain. The man in the sky was his father..
Baahubali and the villain are cousins. The villain wants to be king and marry a princess that Baahubali is in love with. Baahubali is the rightful heir. So the villain has Baahubali stabbed in the back by his own Hand of the king. He takes his wife prisoner and imprisons her for several years. Baahubali’s mother (the queen) saves baahubali’s infant child and the child grows up in exile, finds out who he is and avenges his dad, frees his mother from prison and becomes king. It’s basically Lion King but with a few changes and set in an epic historical world.
I stumbled across this movie on Netflix a few years ago. I watched a few minutes of the first one and was intrigued. I watched the entire movie and was blown away at the story. I was super happy when I realized that part 2 was also on Netflix. What an epic story this was.

It's said if one completed this their wishes will be fulfilled. She is BahuBali's mom and if she completes it Ballaldev will surely be defeated, that's when the evil priest suggests to burn the bridge so she stops walking and the tradition will be broken.
