      We got a 7 week bull terrier and he had no training at all. We put him in a small crate with a soft bed the fits just big enough for him to stand, turn and lay. He was fed and taken out to potty before bed. He started crying so I knew it wasn't because he had to go to the bathroom so I ignored it because if you go to see him everytime they whine then they catch on that, that's how he can call your attention. Since we were gonna be potty training I wanted to get that point across, whinnig=potty outside. The first night he was left to whine. We set that on our mind to ignore it. Set a timer to take him out to potty after 2 hours. Then after that when he would whine I would say "outside potty" as I put on the leash and carry him outside to his potty area. Dont speak to him while he's out besides saying "outside potty" or whatever word you want him to relate to his "business" just every once in a while. Stand in one place and dont walk around so he know that he has to do his business wherever his leach reaches as round you. It's not a walk he went out for but to handle business. And as soon as he's done reward him by giving him a treat or just by letting so he knows that you like that. And take him inside right away so he knows that whining is just for his "business". They are extremely smart and he caught on quickly. The next night there was no whining or crying because he was in his crate. My kids gave him some attention once he started whining and I told them not to because he associates that with getting attention through whining.. the next time he whined and I know it was just for attention because he had just gotten it his way, I went and got him and followed the routine for "outside potty" to remind him. And it's working great. He hasn't had any accidents in his crate and when he's out he's only out under supervision or while playtime or training, so as soon as I see him squat we say "no" and pick him up and follow "potty outside" routine.
      It's our first puppy and I'm no trainer, but just some ideas that are working great and quickly for us😁 it's our 3rd day with him and he's already used to his crate and loves it(I think it's the comfy bed) when in his crate he let's us know when he needs to go, and it's already learning commands like sit, come, place, follow(heel), down, leave it, and to give us his paw. Being a bull terrier I want to start as soon as I can on all obedience. I had seen on some places that certain commands they dont begin to learn till about 6 months, like "heel"("follow" for us) but he's catching on. They are soooooo smart. We just need to be constant. And they'll catch on.

    I have had dogs raised them from puppies and have Never used a crate, I train them with puppy pads and don't have a problem and if one is working full time puppy pads are the only way to go, people using crates are lazy, it is not hard to puppy pad train you just have to spend the first week in doing it.. And another thing when you visit or go somewhere they know what to do, mine are trained for indoors and outside, they know the difference. Spend time with your new puppy if you don't have the time then you do not need an animal.

    We just got an 11 week old puppy. On the good side, she sleeps all night without soiling her crate and no crying. When we get up I take her right outside... nothing. It's at least a half hour before she pees. Then about 45 min after eating she has BM. She rarely pees outside no matter time of day and had never had her BM outside. Never had a dog like this. Also rarely uses the pee pad, and often misses when she does. She's happy and quite affectionate!

    Our puppy is three months old. Before we got him he was confined to a crate most of the day. I don't think he was ever outside. He goes out to potty, then comes inside and relieves himself. He is a German Shepherd. We out stools out that he did in the house and take him to that area of the yard to no avail. What can we do?

    • @LakeviewVetClinic
      @LakeviewVetClinic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key is for early - you need to look at what your puppy does and modify. If your puppy goes outside, urinates, but comes inside then poops, the puppy needs to be outside longer. Or if runs inside, goes in kennel, and then will hold it/ cry to let you know he was not done. Then take outside.

    • @unitysaints7247
      @unitysaints7247 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kimberly Mayfield yes I had a pay pen when I got my Yorkie and he wouldn't sleep in the living room without knowing I was near. He had separation anxiety so I got a small crate for my bedroom for him to sleep. I use the playpen for when I can't keep a close eye on him. I have had him about 2 weeks and he has gained some freedom to play with the other pets. And run around certain areas of the house because he is using the puppy pad in his play pen. His play pen is his daytime area basically. It didn't work in 3 days but my training seems to be taking for a stubborn small breed

    I have a 7 month old female Boston terrier that sleeps in a crate at night. She doesn't potty in her crate. I let her out first thing in the morning as soon as I let her in she goes. Either on the floor or the furniture. Everytime throughout the day she does this. What do I do?

    • @LakeviewVetClinic
      @LakeviewVetClinic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Felicia This is a common problem. What usually happens at this age, is the puppy is so distracted by what goes on outside, that they go outside 'to do their job' but get distracted, and forget to go, until they get inside and in the 'more boring/ routine' of in the house and the accident happens. What works best with this is to have puppy on a short leash when first outside and make sure puppy 'potty's' when outside, and THEN can play. No potty within 60-90 seconds (because distracted), then back in house - in crate! You mentioned pup not having accident in crate. We will use that. And go about your business - but not too much, because we know puppy has to go. Then puppy will look around and whine because she has to go potty. You put leash back on as go outside, short leash to potty area, and just stand until puppy goes potty. When the puppy does, you praise as described above, and then can play. Do the same if issues during the day - for this to work, the puppy has to be in crate ~ 20-22 hr/ day. Not certainly in a row, but if not actively playing with/ feeding/ training, then pup goes into kennel (with treat) and chew toy such as kong.

    • @saramations
      @saramations 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to praise her lots when she goes potty outside and reward her when she goes back in with a treat and play time.
      Make her realize that potty outside = playtime inside. 🐶

The problem is he doesn’t mind laying in his poop, he’s getting better as far as house training but he just won’t stop pooping in his crate. They do wonderful and come out to play in main home afyer theyve done their business. Worked since they were a month old. Very intelligent animals. Now the ones I'm keeping sleep at foot of bed with the mama, go in the other room to per pad by door to do their business, and nap during day in their open crates. Doing smashing I'd say. Oh plus they all have toys they love to share n play together + alone with..both chew and pull type stuffed ones. They love to snuggle with their huge stuffed dogs too.

      you're probably not taking your puppy out enough and giving her positive reinforcement when she does pee outside. She needs the opportunity to pee outside and know this is good. They say your puppy can only hold their pee one hour per month of age. = 1 month puppy can hold pee for one hour max.

    • @LakeviewVetClinic
      @LakeviewVetClinic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tonia, the biggest thing to help you help your puppy is 1) not take him out so much. Doing so does not encourage control. 2) when not going outside, have puppy in the kennel to take advantage to not wet in house.
      If he is going when you get right back in, if you are not using a leash, you have to use a very short leash. Especially at this age of ~ 11 wks, they get so distracted, they forget why they went outside. So short leash, go potty, and if not within 60 sec, inside in kennel and wait until need to go potty again, and again short leash until go potty.

      Yes! I read all this advice but it doesn’t apply to mine. She pees or poops on hers and everybody’s bed! She didn’t care.

      arrivagabry eating their poop is a sign of separation anxiety. When I got my new pup a couple weeks ago. The previous owners had given me these things that are supposed to help because they said he ate his poop all the time. The first 2 days he soiled his bed. Ate his poop the first night. But since he has gotten comfortable with his new home new pup has not having any of these issues. Look up breaking social anxiety. My new pup is a Yorkie and over never had a small breed. The previous owners had a pay pen they gave me for the pup and I got him a smaller crate for bedtime. I needed something that would fit in my bedroom because he would cry in his pen unless he could see me. My husband didn't agree with me sleeping on the couch. Pup goes to his bed in his small crate happily knowing mommy is near by.he has never soiled his bedtime crate. Try to soothe the separation anxiety and he should do better. The first night I would just sush him when he became making noises and he was reassured I was there. And we keep a blanket over his crate so he can't see me so It took the consistency of my voice to soothe him

      Yes tough getting him off the pads. Mines would only pee once on the mat and refuse to poo after . Fun times.

      It's usually a sign that they desire something that's missing in their diet. Talk to your vet.

    When your instruction video constantly says "we'll get back to that" you need to rethink your presentation. Guy meant well, but instructional videos are not his calling.

    I do not know. What can go wrong will go wrong with a puppy. I can see something horrible happening with the twine and kong like hanging themselves. No way would I leave my puppy alone for a minute with such a long rope in the crate. Bad idea.

  • @mayalee2400
    @mayalee2400 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not true Doctor, i used to have a shetzu dog and dont matter, she pee in her bed, and when she poops she eats her own poops, so not a good idea in this kennel.. the best thing is get a play pen and get a pee pee pad and the kennel for sleeping that is surrounded by the play pen so they can't go everywhere..

      Why are you suggesting he is not a real vet? Puppies that eat their own poop can do it because they are trying to get their den clean, or because of health issues and sometimes out of boredom (not enough e exercise, misses humans)

      Yes Ma'am. I can't imagine going back to work now that I have my little babies. Big dogs and yard freedom is not bad, especially when there are more dogs to play with. But, with puppies and small dogs, they need interaction. They crave human attention and become sad & depressed without it. I can't even go on shopping trips without my Crestepoo acting as if I'd been away for years when I get home.

      I can see a safety issue using the Kong the way he illustrated.By running the twine through the Kong and creating a loop the pup could twist while chewing/ holding the Kong thus trapping and possibly choking the pup

    This guy's w-a-a-a-ay too "acadamia" and talks about dogs clinically (like an object). First of all, dogs don't spoil their own crates or beds. Using stuffed animals is classic geek stuff. Probably doesn't have a real dog himself-lol! Bedside manner sucks and he's creepy. I wouldn't let this guy near my pooch
