¡¡¡Que Cantante y Que Arrtista de Gran Nivel!!! Que importante material; suena verdaderamente magnifico. Y se ve que hay gran comprension para este tipo de role. Soberbio.
Oh my God,I read some of the comments here and they are absolutely ridiculous! This singer is up there with all the main singers including Siegfried Jerusalem!Do you have any understanding at all of what is required to sing this way? A little bit of respect and admiration is simply welcome here! This is absolutely fantastic. If you don't know anything about singing, do not criticise this for it is absolutely fantastic singing! And if you know about singing, well get out there and try to do better than this! That is all I have to say, except that this is superb!
What an intriguing voice with emotion and power. And no matter what some people might think about his figure, he`s a handsome man. He could work on his German, though. Some vowels are completely wrong ("herz" is not pronounced "[hurts]" but I could live with that in a live performance :-)
Melchior was a great Otello, sung it at Hamburg, Berlin and Covent Garden to great critical acclaim includinging Herman Klein who was a tough critic and the shame of it was Gatti did not let him sing it at the MET.
iteachnsing: I was startled by your vehement critique. Ugly voice? I also teach and sing and I find his voice virile and powerful and deeply moving. Yes, he already shows signs of a possible future tremolo but the Forbis in this video is masterful and musical and mesmerizing.
Yes, voices like that are meant to be heard in a theater, not on a close mic on TH-cam! I have sung with him, and I have also seen him at the Met. His G, which is a passaggio note, not a high note, was so big it made my eyes water from the pressure he created through squillo!
One of the few real Heldentenors who is one. Needs to pay a tiny bit more attention to his diction when excited but a noble sound and a relief to hear after listening to all the character tenors people are trying to sell these days as Heldentenors. The colors his voice can produce make them sound like barking dogs.
Best rendering I have heard since Lauritz Melchior.. and believe me, I've listened to a lot. Can't even find a bio of the guy.. Can't find fault with his singing. The orchestra is on a par with anything I know, but I'd love to hear CF sing this with a conductor that puts in a bit more passion. Thanks a bunch for posting..!!!
He looks like he has a technique similar to Claude Heater. Great sound, and I'd definitely pay to hear it. Sure, it's **slightly** pushed, but this is Wagner. It doesn't just "flow" out of the mouth like Bellini or even Verdi (best composer for singers IMHO). I'm not saying that a Wagner singer should push....just saying that Wagner can sound that way.
great teacher too!
Musique sublime , magnifiquement interprétée !!!!
Niente male! Bravo-. Grazie
Wow! Powerful and totally believable.
Dramatic, awesome control, diction par excellence, placement is perfect for the role.

Woah! That is one Heldentenor. I wish Clifton Forbis would sing Manrico's cabaletta with a high C.

впеяатляюще, а кто дирижер! Такие прекрасные сверхмедленные темпы, так прочувствованно и торжественно!
I heard him at the Met live. Huge voice!
grossartig
Man! The position on this Guy!! Wow. Crazy Wagnerians...
That was a vowel modification for the voice. His German is actually quite good. But I hear what you mean

Bravooo!!!!
Now he's is the TRUE definition of a Heldentenor!! AMAZING!
This guy's probably my favorite Siegmund, voicewise, that I've heard.
I now study under him! His voice rings even bigger in the studio 😂
buona prova di CLIFTON FORBIS
grandios,erlebte ihn als otello--echter otello
I liked.
and ofcourse John Tomlinson!!!

I now study under him and can confirm 12 years later he’s very vocally healthy. Will be performing at Dallas Opera this season!
Bravo! He does sound a bit more like wotan though.

Agree with you entirely.

Lo siento, se me ahoga.
Haitink and EMW!
@JSJ1121 I respect your polite disagreement.
@JSJ1121 I respect your polite disagreement. :)
Salve

This is a voice with a big wobble and very little charm. This is the reason why people think that Wagner sounds terrible.
TsarBovov I gather that many people do not know what is wobble in singing. They also really like it.
