    Love your videos..I'm 63 and spent most of my pre-teen, teen, and young adult years hunting grouse with my Dad and Brothers in North Eastern WA. Now that I'm retired, I'm finally back at it with one of my 8 adult kids. We went back to our old stomping grounds and had a great time (1 rabbit, 4 grouse in the bag for a few days of hunting) I chuckled when I saw the title of this video as we experienced all week the "cow thing" too. We were on our way out when we pulled over to talk with a fellow grouse hunter we had met that week. As we parted ways and us heading out of the woods (2 mins from where we were talking), we ran into our last cow sighting in the middle of the road. We grumbled again but then saw under the cows legs, a grouse not more than 2 feet away from the other side of the cow....just sitting there picking gravel. We just laughed and said, "Well that's a first."😂

      I'm glad you're getting out into the woods enjoying time the kids. The cows, every time are initially an interesting novelty but turn into a comical annoyance at some point. I'm assuming you didn't shoot the grouse UNDER the cow haha

    Awesome content. Thank you for sharing your hunting adventures.
    It really does suck to lose a grouse & you feel terrible about it..
    I’ve shot them on the edge of steep slopes or perched on a limb & they get that locked wing dead glide going & their gone..
    Or I swear they’ll drag themselves into a mountain beaver hole & you’ll never find them. You’ll find yourself saying aloud “Come on keep flapping so I can find you”😂
    I use #4 & #5 shot so it’ll increase the odds of quick kills. Their feathers get thick in the late season & I’ve tumbled them with #8 and #6 shot & watched them flap around and fly off..

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    three questions:
    1) how fast do you walk during hunting? how long does it take to cover a mile?
    2) how often do you stop on average? once in how many yards?
    3) how silent should you be during the hunt?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Three answers.... 😆
      1. I walk at various speeds depending on the terrain and grousey it feels. Little too much to text in a comment.
      2. If it feels real grousey, I'll walk like 10 ish yards, stop and look and listen.
