Westfalenstadion is officially called Signal Iduna Park for sponsorship reasons and BVB Stadion Dortmund in UEFA competitions, the name derives from the former Prussian province of Westphalia.

Schönes Stadion. Ich war einmal drin gegen Werder. Wann das war weiß ich nicht mehr. Muß wohl so gegen 1999 gewesen sein. Stimmung war schon gigantisch. Als kleiner Junge sind wir(Familie) immer durch Dortmund an den Niederrhein gefahren. Wenn ein Heimspiel des BVB war, sah ich die Parkenden Autos der Zuschauer entlang des Westfalendamm B1. Auf der Rückreise vom Niederrhein habe ich, wenn der Stadtrand von Dortmund erreicht worden war die Flutlichtmasten gesehen. Das sind meine Erinnerungen an das Westfalen Stadion in Dortmund.

@@frankschmitz6117 I spoke with a frankfurt fan about that. He was asking, why they dont call it Signal Iduna Park / Westfalenstadion? Or Commerzbank Arena/ Waldstadion? The sponsor is happy, the fans are happy, because, a name for a product will never stay for emotion, success and tradition. A very cool statement!
