Ralph Long Sr. - Ohio Fire Service Instructor of the Year

  • Ralph Long started his career in fire service in 1976
    with the Elida Fire Department and served that department from 1976-1991 where he was
    Lieutenant of the Rescue Squad from 1977-1979 and then Captain from 1989-1991. He
    attended Ohio State Fire Marshal’s School where he graduated Level 1 in 1981, Level 2 in
    1984 and Level 3 in 1990. He has participated in several continuing education programs
    from 1982-2016. Ralph, has been involved in the fire investigation training in Ohio since
    1982, he has served as past President of Ohio’s First Arson Task Force, was a former
    instructor for the Ohio Fire Investigation Course at the Elida Fire Department and is still
    currently an instructor for Apollo Joint Career Vocational School in Lima, Ohio. He has held

    several fire related positions throughout his career from 1991-2010 and in 2010 he began
    as an instructor in the fire service program at Apollo Career Center in Lima, Ohio where he
    still teaches today. He has participated in professional societal memberships within the fire
    service including IAAI of which he held many positions, Allen County Firefighters
    Association, International Association of Arson Investigators, and National Society of
    Professional Insurance Investigators where he is still a proud member today. Ralph,
    exemplifies what it means to be an instructor and thoroughly enjoys teaching the up and
    coming firefighters and sharing his knowledge of the field all while continuing his own
    education and learning new techniques as well.
