Nice, I purchased three of these someone else made with no handles for $99usd on eBay then added my own copper and wood handle like you did. Was not patient enough to purchase the steel bar as you did because my new lathe was sitting idle.. Maybe next time I'll give it a try. Thanks, fun to watch video.

I used flush head bolts 4mm and 6mm. 3.3mm hole was made and 4mm tap drill was machined. A 5mm hole was drilled and threaded with a 6mm tap drill. Thanks for watching. Have a good day.😀
You don't need to sharpen. When a side gets dull loosen the screw and rotate the cutter a little bit. When the cutter is completely dull throw it away a replaced with a new cutter. They are reasonably cheap and last a long time.

When filing, if you lift the file from the workpiece between each cutting stroke the file will stay sharp longer :)
