    For the floor vents, pull panty hose over the vent cover, and then fasten them back to the floor. The panty hose lets the air through, and prevents a TON of the dirt and stuff from getting in!

  • @splashluvallover
    @splashluvallover 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A tip for the floor vents. Buy some panty hose and stick the vent inside the foot, then hang the excess down the inside. It's not foolproof but it helps a lot with the dirt and hair!

    A valuable tip for the fridge - get one of the small battery fans and put it in a bottom corner to help circulate the air. The difference that one will make more than offsets the little area it takes up, and the batteries normally last a few months of non-stop use.

      There are also fans to get better airflow behind the fridge to make the cooling unit work better

    • @jeromyralvord
      @jeromyralvord 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do also make fans 12v fans that you can put inside your fridge (wires go through the drain so no worries about getting power to them) that will greatly help air flow in the fridge.

      The fan in the fridge is a great solution. When we are getting pretty full, then I put the fan in there. I put mine on the bottom and point it toward the door

    As far as the vents go, we used magnet covers during the times we were not using the furnace. Stops all hair and dust from entering. Enjoy your videos, especially as someone who grew up in the Ft Wayne, East Allen county area.

    To reduce debris in floor vents: purchase magnetic vent covers. It’s essentially a flat sheet that’s magnetic. You can trim to size. Cover when not running the furnace during warming months. They work great!

    We use a 12”x 12” ceramic floor tile in our oven.

  • @brettjackson5527
    @brettjackson5527 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    In our oven we bought a large ceramic floor tile at a big box store and that has made a huge difference. It has virtually eliminated the “hot spots” and our food cooks much more evenly and it’s inexpensive, I think we paid less than $3.00 and it works great.

    I second taking temperature of wheel bearings, I was on a trip last fall and found one wheel was extremely hot, the electric brake was stuck on and literally melted some of the brake components it had become so hot. Definitely very important to check wheel hub temperatures when you stop at rest areas, it only takes a minute

    you may want to turn the temperature down on your refrigerator. right now you are storing your food in the "food danger zone" bacteria grows most rapidly on food between 40f and 140f. I keep my fridge at home at 35f

    They also have air pans that work great in an RV Oven…the bottom is two thin layers with air between and flows around for more even heat…most kitchen stores have them.

  • @bryan314
    @bryan314 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You might consider looking at a metal heat diffuser for your oven. I know that's what I use on my pellet grill for much the same reason....hot spots are bad when you're cooking a 20 lb brisket ($100 worth of burnt meat HURTS).

    Our RV came with the sink cover but I wanted to be able to have a little extra room for counter space as well as being able to access the actual sink, to rinse hands put dishes or get water while cooking. So my husband sawed ours in half sanded it down so now I can use half on one side or half on the other, all of it or none at all.

    A coyote of things I did too make our oven useful, I bought a pizza steel, instead of a stone it is only about a quarter inch thick. After the stone broke I wasn't buying another one. The other thing is a good quality 1/4 sheet baking pan, ours is double layered so if I want to bake cookies I put the pan on to of the steele and it cooks fairly normally

    I would think a wireless temp sensor for the fridge would be much more useful than a cheap IR temp reader. I can see the temperature of the fridge even when driving. Install a fan on your fridge fins and it wont ice over. Your food is going bad because some areas of the fridge aren't circulating any air. I installed a 90mm computer fan in mine.

    Good video, you did go over a couple of things I'd never heard before. I have a tip for you, regarding your heater vents. A couple of RVs ago I heard about and started to do myself, cover the underside of those vents. I covered under ours with screen material to gather all the dirt and hair. I did that again when we got new RVs. Just take the cover off and turn it upside down to dump all the stuff out and put it back in place. Doing that works great and even though we aren't full timers, as you said they fill up with debris very fast! There are now under vent covers made from light material you can buy. I've seen them on Amazon. Great idea about replacing the RV screens and door with a finer mesh screen material!

    I got an unglazed tile at the Habitat restore for a couple of dollars for your oven to even out the heat. You could probably go to Home Depot and get something similar for a few more dollars. They work really well.

    Hi Roe! Try putting the pizza stone on the metal piece above the flame and below the rack instead of directly on the rack. It makes soooo much difference. My oven cooks really pretty well and I use a large unglazed floor tile! Thanks for the other tips. ♥️

    Put it in the bottom for thermo mass.

    Another fridge tip I have learned is an energy saving one. If you are boondocking, turn the fridge off at night. A properly sealed fridge should keep the inside cool for several hours with it off. We went the entire winter in the desert like this. The fridge was never above 40° in the morning.
    Oh, and the pizza stone. You don't have to put it on the rack. You can put it on a cooling rack on the metal divider between the burner area and the cooking area. This turns some of the direct heat into radiant heat and distributes the heat a bit more even.

    Your sink cover is great, but if you cut it in half (or maybe in your case, cut it into 1/3 & 2/3 pieces) it stores easier, and it gives you the option of still being able to use the sink while maintaining greater counter / workspace area. It also gives you a place to store / access dirty dishes while working

    While you're checking the wheel hub temp, check the tire temp. All of you tires should have similar temps, but if one is hotter, check the air pressure. A tire with low air pressure will run hotter than the rest.

    I think getting that temperature gauge is a good idea, my dad and I have the same fridge/freezer. Plus, getting slight out stabilizers are a good idea. Neighbor of ours when we first started out, suggested getting them and they seem to stabilize the RV a little bit more. We have a travel trailer that is just under 30 feet long.

    FYI: 40° in the fridge is too warm for dairy. It can dramatically shorten shelf life. 37 - 38 is recommended. But in transportation, dairy producers require trucks to transport 32-33°. That is to help maintain freshness longer.

    Great tip about the leveling jack. We found out early that no matter how solid the scissor jacks were, if the front leveling jack was extended even a few inches, we lost stability. Our goal now is to use solid blocks at the front so that the leveling jack is fully retracted when the unit is level. It takes a little practice but it sure makes a difference. Thanks for sharing that.

    When checking the temp in your fridge using a food thermometer to check items actual temperature is always a good idea - butter, jelly & other items that will be dense can give a better impression of the bacteria growth risk. Anything above 43 degrees is getting into risk territory.
    We also found out sometimes more frost forms when warm items are being put in the fridge all at once.
    We love all the 3 in One products too - trailer hitch lube, slide out spray, rubber protection etc. we have 'em all.
    Thanks for another great video!

    As to the jacks - I think they also "self-lower" I'm sure I have 'caught' mine doing that, and that's why I need to re-tension them.
    My solution (when staying for more than a couple of days) is to install jack-stands in the four corners from the ground to the frame, and they make the RV rock-solid for weeks at a time, (unless it rains a lot) give it try.
    For the oven, "they say" you should place the ceramic pizza stone on top of the lower metal diffuser, being sure not to block the ventilation holes, and not on the rack...

    As far as measuring temperature with one of those IR sensors, there’s a thing called EMISSIVITY. Those sensors are only accurate if you tell them the emissivity of the thing you’re measuring. When you’re concerned about a few degrees (fridge), the proper calibration makes a difference. As someone suggested, an internal fan can work wonders.
    Also, frost will always form on the coils depending on humidity. The more you open it the more frost you’ll get.

    Use a battery powered 1/2" impact to tighten the scissor jacks. It's a lot easier and quicker. You might want to add some lube to the jack screws too, they looked dry. Those floor vents can be replaced with an upgrade type with adjustable louvers, plus they're more durable.
