Maybe Avelino’s more accessible sound isn’t as appreciated because UK rap is in a place where we make music for us, and if outsiders like it then fine and if they don’t...it wasn’t for you anyway. All the top artists over here tend to be unapologetically UK sounding to the point where it can be really hard for people that are not from the UK to digest, get into or even in some cases to understand at all. Which can mean they are loved here but sometimes it doesn’t translate as well overseas. Even that Ghetts daily duppy you did had so many UK specific lines and references that you just wouldn’t know unless you’re from here, so a UK person listening would have enjoyed listening WAY more because they get everything he is saying...from the references, to the slang, to the accents, and I think the reason drake co-signs the people he does is because black UK slang is really similar to black Canadian slang so he gets it more and it probably hits way harder for him.

being 30 years old i grew up on UK grine from 12 years old to present, ive listened to everyone from skepta, wiley, chip, d double, kano, scorcher, devlin, griminal, shifty, akala, mic rightious, stormzy, p money, bugzy, dave ect..ive followed the whole scene from a young age and in my opinion ghetts, wretch and avelino are the 3 most talented artists the uk has ever produced. the flow switches, the pen slickness, the adaptability, versatility, craftsmanship of a song, likeability, relatability, delivery and longevity puts them 3 at the top for me. theyre timeless artist, nothing they put out is ever less than a 9/10. i think others come very close but i was a CEO if a huge record label, for the all round package they come above everyone else.
