- Using a 5.5mm crochet hook and #4 medium weight yarn I will be walking you through how I make this dog sweater.

Thank you for the pattern, very easy to follow. I did one thing extra though, I made a 3 st slot in the top of the sweater to allow for the harness to go through and hook up to the lead

Thank you for trying so hard to help me. I think I don't crochet as loosely as you so I had to add extra rounds and with each round the joins with slip stitch,chain 1 ends up alittle more further from the v opening. I did manage to fix it and hopefully after I wash it, our 17 year old dog will let us put it on him. I was so happy to see your tutorial after I made a small dog sweater and it was too small and hoped for a medium size and how perfect it happens to be for a male dog as well. Thanks again.

Why does mine look smaller than yours

My neck is too small but the rest was fine
This looser--see daylight between sts,also Walmart SS is thinner,lower count twists than Joann,Michaels,etc🧶

This was a great tutorial, but I wish it had a written form with the yarn brand included. I got #4 sized silky yarn but I think it was thinner. My dog is a mutt and has weird dimensions. When I followed the exact instructions, it was only the size of her neck and she is 17 lbs. because of her dimensions, usually
medium fits her perfectly.
I looked at the tutorial with the large size and it would’ve swam
on her. Written directions would have helped me out so much! And as others have mentioned, it was really fast for beginners. Slow it down next time so we can see what you’re doing ❤

How do you make it larger
I need instructions for a dog whose chest at the broadest is 31.5 inches and her length is 18 inches. How can I adjust your instructions for these measurements?

I have found thru years of experience, my aluminum hooks have a slightly larger hook versus the plastic. It all depends on slant of hook. Makes huge difference in sizing and completing project. Check it out. I hope this helps! Peace to all….
You are right! Usually this yarn requires a K hook (In days of old-aluminum)..for this one I used an “I” hook (plastic that states 5.50.
I was hesitant bc that’s going down two hook sizes, but I was too lazy to look up my metal hook mm size (bc my metal hooks are only stamped by “Letter”.
It came out a bit tight and shorter than this one
If I do thi s again (not crazy about the “v” design) I will go up to at least a ‘J”

Is it okay if I am using a 5 MM hook cause I think that is what is throwing my counts off. Cause at row 23 I was only 7.5 inches
Hello, I use a 5.5 mm hook for the medium size and yes that and how much tension you crochet with will throw off the measurements

Thank you for watching, start with more stitches in your beginning chain. Then for the leg holes, depending on how many stitches you added all you will have to do is there will be more stitches between both leg holes. I hope this makes sense, I also have a video for a large sweater which is wider.

How do you make a sweater for a girl dog.
This pattern will work for girl dogs however if you dont want the V you would slip stitch to join on the first row just make sure your chain is not twisted and also I would suggest to add 5 stitches to your chain so the sweater will fit over your dogs head and shoulder to put the sweater on. The V open helps when putting it on
Hey, I cannot get to 16 inches with 39 chain. Can I add more,will it mess up the remaining pattern? I'm only at 14 inches
The 16 inches is how long the sweater is from neck to tail. Starting with the ch 39 you are starting at the tail end of the sweater and working up fo the neck.
You can add stitches to your chain you will just need to adjust your stitches later on when you get to the leg holes row. If you add to your ch I would suggest to keep the ch an odd number and the rest of the rows an even number

You're welcome. Check at row 8 to see if the width is good for your dog, because after that row it will be the same width until you reach the neck.

Hey thanks for watching. Making sure your working on the outside/right side of the sweater. You will ch 1 continue that row, sl st at end, ch 1 and do the next row.

I've tried making your dog sweater it was pretty easy but then I got confused in the counting of the rose after we made the dog holes for the legs for the medium there was 42 stitches then you decreased minus 4 that's 38 couldn't understand why your video kept saying 31 ,do you have a written pattern available? 😁

I do not at this time. The next time I get an order for one I'll be sure to record me making it. Pretty much the same technique I use a 6.5 hook #4 weight yarn and start with a ch 41
Great tutorial. Unfortunately for me I made it halfway through before realizing it will not fit my chunky rat terrier mix! Lol shes an old girl and her belly is about 19 inches around. Time to frog and try again!

Yes it would work, however it may come out smaller or larger depending on the thickness of the yarn. I would measure throughout making it to make sure it will fit.
I’m making this for a co-worker of my daughter so I don’t have any idea what the measurements of the dog are. I’m following along for the medium size(the dog is a Lhasa apso mix) but this seems really long. My tension is definitely different than yours (tighter). I’m wondering if I can decrease the number of rows somewhere to help make this not so long? If so, where would you suggest I decrease the length?
So sorry about the delay response, I would decreas the amount of rows between where you sl st to make it a tube and where the leg holes are

Hey, try making it a loose ch of 39 and use a 5.5 mm hook. I hope this helps

Sorry I wasn't very clear :) row 1-16 is how many inches? From the beginning to the point where you slip stitch to make a tube.

Would this size sweater probably work for a maltese type dog?
If your maltese is on the larger size such as over 12 pounds yes. If it is on the smaller size the 8-12 pound I would go with the small size. That's what fits my maltese that is 10 pounds. I have a video from a mini 8 inches sweater all the way to a large 19 inch sweater.

So these measurement are the same as my large size dog sweater. My husband stayed home from work tonight so I'm going to try and record the video. If I do not get to it tonight. I use a 6.5 mm hook and I chain 41 to begin.

Is this pattern good for a fat female cat and she is 20 inches around... I’m only using cat bc I don’t have access to the inlaws dog who is a Shih Tzu and he’s fat as well
Yes it should fit, however what would be best is to begin crocheting it and at row 8 put it around the cats belly at the thickest part. If it fits continue, if not do a few more rows of increase. You will just need to adjust the leg hole row to accommodate the addition increases.

If your having trouble with the front post double crochet. You can just continue with half double crochet. It just wont have the texture.

I figured it out. I was just having trouble seeing on the video exactly where you were putting the hook to do it. I completed it! It looks good but it was tight on one of my dogs.

At first I was thinking it was going to be too big lol. My dogs are small 14 and 12 pounds. It for my smaller one.
